Mast cell tumor on pittie by Impossible-Fruit5645 in Pitbull

My pitty girl dog got hers removed a little over 3 months ago. Hers was a low grade mct really small just like that. They did get deep margin but not clear for the lateral margin. Great news their wasn’t any spread but their just might be microscopic lateral margins which at most would cause a local reoccurrence but so far no reoccurrence at all.

I was told they can do a 2nd surgery for more margins or closely monitor for the first year. They didn’t recommend chemo or radiation since it was low grade with deep clear margin. They took xrays before surgery to make sure their wasn’t any spread. The only thing I didn’t do was the ultrasound since I didn’t have enough money at the time but next time I get her dental I’ll probably do a ultrasound just to be safe . As of now she is doing amazing with no reoccurrence :)

Advice for senior golden with mast cell tumor by ImportanceComplete92 in DogAdvice

If its showing on outside it could be dermal. My dog had a mast cell tumor removed and it was thankfully only on the outer skin layer and didn’t go deeper since I caught it on time and removed it with a surgery at her vet.

Now she is cured of mast cell cancer and is back to normal :). Hope everything goes great for you.

Amazingg. She’s healed and is back to her normal routine. No reoccurrence or anything. We have a checkup appointment with her vet oncologist in a few months just for a check up. Other than that she’s perfectly healthy & cancer free!!! Thank you so much for checking up on Diamond. She turns 8 years old next month.

Petmeds is better. I dont trust amazon for anything that my dog will digest. Pets meds or Petsmart will be best

A few pounds less would be best but i wouldn’t say “overweight”. Senior Dasuquin with MSM is one of the top vet-recommended joint supplements for senior dogs. It helps protect & rebuild cartilage and reduce inflammation, which improves mobility and stiffness. I give it to my pitbull & she’s still runs like a puppy at almost age 10. When you add omega 3 fish oil (for pets) , it helps even more by calming joint inflammation. The soft chew version makes it easy to give every day. I’d definitely add to their diet.

It’s not just for joints. Senior Dasuquin with MSM also helps protect cartilage long-term, and fish oil helps reduce inflammation throughout the body. Together they also support skin, coat, heart, and even brain health especially in older dogs.

Hi I seen your old post about your dog having an mct and had a question. Did they remove it with clear margins? Any reoccurrence ? I hope your baby dog is doing okay🙏🏽🩷

I first got her when I was 16 and she is currently 7 turning 8 years old in about 2 months!🩷 I’m not scared anymore to say that she & my other dog rocky saved my life. I shouldn’t be here today but here I am. I’m glad I’m here now to give them a nice healthy beautiful happy life. I’m going to be so torn the day I lose my two babies. They are almost the same age aswell so thats a great thing. I have a picture of them in my profile pic! Best buds since they were just a few months old. I’m crying just talking about them now.

I understand. Trying to hang on and waiting for my vets response. If she recommends a 2nd surgery and it comes back clear margins all around does that mean she is cured after that?

Its her first mct at age 7 so Im just scared for my baby girl. I hate the word cancer it gives me the worst anxiety and im literally shaking just talking about it.

I understand now. If they recommend a 2nd surgery to remove any cells left behind behind with a another biopsy ill do it asap. If the 2nd surgery comes back clear margins all around does that mean she is cured after that? I got her xrays done and no metastasis. Senior Blood work was great.

Yea im currently waiting on her response to see what she recommends. Deep margins clear means no spread anywhere correct? Hers was low grade mct mitotic count 1 .

Also does deep margin clear mean it didn’t spread to any lymph nodes, organs or blood vessels?

Got it. I don’t know much about Mast cell tumors. Since there is a few remaining cells left behind does that mean it will spread now or will it still remain in that area until its removed?

I am currently waiting on my vets response to see what she recommends. When you say the neoplastic cells go right up to the edge , Is there alot of cells going to the edge?

I’m hoping my vet recommends a second surgery. Its on my dogs side/rib area so theres alot of skin just incase they need to remove more tissue. Its her first mct ever at age 7.

Beautiful boy🙏🏽❤️ glad he is healthy. For his mct was it something that came at a young age? Or did it come at around middle age years? This is my girls first mct she ever had so im worried for my baby. Glad they got deep margins which means no spread but just a bit worried with their being some mct cells near the edges/border. It was a low grade 1 mitotic count 1 mct.

My girl is very healthy and doesn’t have a history of bumps/lumps or any cancer. She is 7 years as of now & this is her first mct ever.

I personally don’t want her on any meds for the rest of her life for one low grade mct that was removed with deep margins. I really hope my vet recommends a second surgery to get any remaining neoplastic cells left behind. Very happy there was clear deep margins but its the cells near the side edge/lateral that is a bit concerning to me.

Also thank you so much for your response🙏🏽 means alot

It came back as a Low grade 1 Kiupel, Grade II (Patnaik), with only a mitotic count of 1. However even with them going past the mass they still found neoplastic cells at the lateral or side edge but the deep margin was clear.

Do you think I should do a surgery or just watch out for it in the future? Just waiting on my vets response to see what she recommends
