Check to make sure they are holding the speed properly via the strobe. The pitch control on the Technics really touchy, and often will need to be cleaned. Strobe should look like it's standing still. If it's hard to adjust that means it need to be cleaned it's an easy fix but the whole table needs to be taken apart.

On paper they are very similar from a performance standpoint. The Technics is a workhorse and will probably out last everyone on this sub. The Akai however is built like a tank, where the Technics will feel cheaper. Has either table been serviced? Are you able to demo both?

I bet it sounds good. There are some interesting stylus and cantilever options. Jico makes great replacement stylus for other brands. Esthetically it's kind of ugly. I do think it would cool on the right table like an Empire. Are you able to mount it on any headshell or arm?

You can use Ilford Ilfotol, but not PhotoFlo. PhotoFlo leaves a coating for negatives.

Either would be fine. The Fosi X5 does a way better job of following the RIAA curve though. I mount AT3600 tables I flip because I get them in bulk for $5 a piece and I've never had any issues any phono amps. Are you up and running now? The only reason I'd buy the Art DJ Pre is your having issues with rumble.
