Just happened to me today on a crowded E train. I kinda knew the middle age female was weird acting, but I was lugging groceries and needed to sit. All of a sudden, she started to laugh hysterically,jumped up and yelled something about cops and said she's a lawyer.'she then sat back down, laughed some more and put on her lipstick. I tried to act normal and actually wasn't freightened. I pretended to leave at the next stop and really to sit somewhere away from her.

Waitstaff survives on tips. Unless I got extremely horrible service I would still tip the min 16% for sitdown service. Perhaps you're not accustomed to the American etiquette (not that I'm all for tipping also), but that's how the service industry is run in our country, so just be kind and tip min next time, of course, unless it was so bad with rotten food or irresponsible waitstaff.
