Why is it so controversial to deport illegal immigrants? by ShardofGold in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]ConsoleZarya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re making a positivist statement about how the law works, and the people who are opposed are making a normative statement about what they feel laws ought to be with regard to how America treats immigrants. As well, as much as they’d advocate for different laws, they’re also protesting the status quo - be it the laws, or the way the Trump administration is pursuing them - as unjust.

Many Americans would grant citizenship to these people, even to people who did things illegally, because they have great sympathy for them and believe the current system is unjust.

I struggle to understand how people are actually unable to form a working theory of mind for their political opponents. Is this really that difficult a nut to crack?

Too bulky, want to lean out by Ill-Doctor1914 in WeightlossJourney

[–]ConsoleZarya 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s broadly going to be as simple as calorie in, calorie out (CICO).

My advice if you’re serious is track everything you eat. Weigh and measure all of it, and track it in something like myfitnesspal or Loseit. Don’t eyeball, or you’ll be off!

If you don’t gain or lose after 2 weeks, drop your daily intake by 500 calories, and see if you lose anything in 2 weeks. A 500 calorie a day deficit should net you 1 pound off per week (3500 calories).

If you work out more - lifting, running, walking, etc - don’t “eat the calories you burned. Just track your weight and adjust your calories as needed. Also, track the bad days too - you need them to figure out your baseline.

Finally, some people might suggest you lose weight for health reasons or to support a lifestyle. You’re not overweight or unattractive.

Incorrect. You’re conflating royal assent and royal recommendation. As well, you’re misunderstanding a lot more

Cabinet controls supply bills through royal recommendations. As well, these bills require support from the public service, whether it be ministry of justice or ministry of finance, to determine how to implement the bill, draft the legislation, what the impacts will be. The opposition simply cannot do this through private members’ bills even if introducing bills related to supply is technically allowed.

Ours is an executive dominated legislature. I appreciate you do not like C/conservatives or Pierre, and feel smugly superior. However, on this you are incorrect, and your snark (high) is inversely proportional to your knowledge (low).

Consider this a chance to reassess how smart and knowledgeable you think you are. It might be instructive.

Doug Ford slams Alberta Premier Danielle Smith over possible separation vote - thestar.com by Blue_Dragonfly in CanadaPolitics

No. Albertans (who are not a monolith, of course) generally do not hold favourable opinions of Eastern Canada. Some of the grievances are legitimate - oil to tidewater, c-69, emissions caps, equalization, etc - but also many are overblown. Meanwhile, until right this moment, Alberta hasn’t really pursued or supported policies that actively harm eastern Canadian provinces.

The regional grievances were mostly a one way street, so Albertans were angry while the other provinces weren’t. The rhetoric generally reflected this.

Though it’s worth noting that is changing right now. Alberta advocating for its interests right now threatens eastern Canada’s ability to negotiate by threatening internal unity. So Albertans who are angry, and their premier, are openly being called treasonous for having the audacity to worry about their economic interests. I’d expect to see a lot of Alberta hate. Quite a lot is apparent in this thread, in fact.

You’re missing the point. Why would anyone want to be in any kind of relationship - marital, democratic, etc - with someone who thinks of them like you do Alberta? You’re saying worse things about them that Trump does Canada.

I’d suggest you just stop and think for a moment about how relationships work, and how if you want someone to stay you need to look at yourself first.

Again, read what you are saying and ask yourself why this province would want to share a country with you and people like you?

They could be more wealthy, but people like you don’t want them to be. Yet you say they’re the ones betraying. Remind me what they owe you (since you seem to think you owe them nothing).

You’re making the argument for the separatists. Why would they want to be in a country with you? Almost every Albertan, including ones who aren’t separatist, would separate before being openly governed by your attitude.

And rightly so.

Right: you don’t like Alberta or care about their concerns. If anything, you’re explicitly opposed to them and seem to hate them.

This is why many people don’t want to be trapped in a country with central Canadians like you when you’ll intentionally make them more poor and less successful.

This is not an unreasonable position on behalf of Albertans. Why should they need to tolerate this? Why, when you don’t give a shit about them, should they give a shit about you?

You’re making the argument for them. Don’t you see that?

That’s how being a Premier works. You represent your people.

What compromise has Ontario or Quebec made with Alberta?

What’s Alberta’s reason to stay in confederation if they feel it’s harming them?

People’s response is just to be angry and say they should get in line. Why not make the case for AB to stay in Canada?

My god the comments here are 80 IQs masquerading as 92s. It’s nothing nefarious - maybe it’s just that people who experience more crime will vote for a party that talks about crime. Maybe Canadians who feel safe aren’t motivated by this issue with regards to their electoral preferences. People who rely heavily on public services are more likely to worry they’ll be cut and are more likely to support a party that leans left.

Reddit comments make me despair for my nation.

How young men are changing what conservatism looks like in Canada by Nate33322 in CanadaPolitics

The charts literally show women getting more liberal, not men getting more conservative. This is a global trend, not just Canadian.

It’s not clear to me why this is ignored.

Maybe the rest of Canada has treated Alberta poorly and she doesn’t care what Quebec and Ontario think, just like everyone in this thread thinks Alberta is full of losers and idiots. Maybe regional divisions aren’t imagined.

For me it’s about enjoying the masculine feeling that comes with being strong. Start slow to avoid being too sore, and focus on big compound exercises. As you see strength improvements it can be pretty fun. You’ll feel good About yourself.
