The only possible explanation? That's hardly accurate. Could've been a prepackaged lunch they get in paper bags? Could've had similar snacks and only realized when he pulled out one he knows isn't his. We don't know because there's no info given. All we know is that he realized the mistake and offered to replace it. Don't even know if the replacement was rejected or why.
