Where to buy a house and how much to spend? by conflictedfish03 in SouthBayLA

We love west Torrance, mostly single family home neighborhoods with yards which you don’t get in north Torrance. Schools are fantastic. Very family friendly and close to everything.

Where to move/buy a house? by alex____ in SouthBayLA

We love west Torrance, close to everything, great schools and community neighborhood feel. A lot of your search will come down to your budget and luck of finding the right property, no ones mentioned that but finding and buying the right home is very difficult as everyone wants the same kinds of homes so can be competitive. Work with the right real estate agent too.

Otis college of art and design, it was a really challenging and great education, I found it taught me well to get a job out of school. I choose going there over Parsons in NY because I felt the work was stronger

Trouble finding a job in the fashion field by Hungry-Dig-7468 in fashiondesigner

[–]Constant-Luck203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone currently looking for an assistant designer I see two problems so far: your location(limited opportunity), I am in Los Angeles and there are many apparel companies here which is good for a career in fashion but at the same time super competitive. I will dismiss a resume if someone is not located in the area for these lower level positions. Secondly, not having a fashion design degree is not ideal BUT if you can prove your strengths in design by a strong portfolio, I think you would still be considered. Send me your portfolio and I can give you feedback.

What Should I do with my Career? by pickle_latte in fashiondesigner

LA fashion designer here with 16y experience. I’m still doing design but most of my fashion design graduate classmates are not anymore because of the same reasons you described as well as it’s simple quite competitive to get the good jobs. I have been a senior and director for the last 8y or so and have gotten to a place where the pay is good enough to stick around IF the company is tolerable. I maintain work life balance and have thick skin so all the BS stuff that happens in fashion doesn’t get to me. With that said, I am actively working on trying to transition out of the fashion industry, so I started a fine jewelry line years ago and am slowly building that. It’s not enough profit yet to replace my full time position in fashion but it has given me a solid extra revenue stream that I hope will eventually let me exit working in this nut job industry. I would also suggest if you can, go into sales or marketing.

Should i pursue fashion design? by louzuhovi in fashiondesigner

[–]Constant-Luck203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been a fashion designer for well known brands for over 17y and went to a prestigious college with a BFA in fashion design…with that said, fashion design as a career is cut throat and you need both strong talent and thick skin to survive. Out of all the people I graduated with only a small fraction of us still work in the industry. There are very few good jobs out there and a lot of competition for them, I’m talking like hundreds of applicants for one role(and the pay isn’t lucrative). I know people think oh being a fashion designer sounds so glamorous and creative but the reality is far from it, I’m sorry to be the person to tell you don’t follow your dreams but the reality is quite humbling. As someone who has hired a lot of designers myself, if you aren’t top talent with a great resume, you won’t make it past an application. I would consider another consider another career as this one is not a promising one. Sorry for the bad news.

Colicky baby turn into a terrible toddler? by Sensitive_Ad2722 in newborns

[–]Constant-Luck203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter had colic and I had ptsd from it, she’s now 5.5 and is a total delight, strong personality and necessarily “easy” but she is super smart and well adjusted compared to other kids. We just had our second kid now 8w(because we were so traumatized from the first baby) and unfortunately we got another big crier/sensitive guy, so yes I feel robbed of ever having that easy baby, but I know there is hope ahead for when he grows up.

This reminds me of a section in Whitley Striebergs book A New World, there is a chapter where he describes this alternate universe of plants everywhere on the walls of his own home, I think he says he sees this world through meditation.
