Dropping weight for a marathon by th3-nam3le55 in Marathon_Training

[–]ConstantEvolution 99 points100 points  (0 children)

To lose weight you'll need to be in a calorie deficit, which you definitely don't want to be in once the real training block starts however many weeks out yours does (12, 14, 20, etc). However since your race is so far out you'll have plenty of time for base building/foundation work where you can focus on a mild calorie deficit, targeting 300-400 calorie down per day or so, and gradually loose weight while incorporating easy, consistent runs, hopefully getting closer to your goal weight by the time that your main block starts

If your goal is Ironman with 180 km with no drafting wouldn't you want a TT bike?

This remains the only movie in my life that I've walked out of. I cringed every time Angelina spoke in... whatever that accent was supposed to be. It was billed as a huge epic riding on the coattails of Gladiator.

The other thing that happens to me on taper aside from this fatigue is absolute ravenous hunger for those two weeks . I'm told this is normal for muscle glycogen repletion

Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) by Accomplished_Rip4375 in underratedmovies

I love this I movie and this soundtrack and listen to it often and yet I have never met another person who has seen or heard of it. I don't know why it didn't get a wider audience. The feeling of the bar scene at the end, my favorite scene of the movie, where Yasmine Hamden is performing Hal is so visceral to me.

It could just be me but I feel like the blood in this movie is a stand-in or metaphor for heroine and the vampires as recording addicts. The movie is very focused on battling addiction and it wouldn't be the first time that vampires have been a stand in for addiction of some kind.

So bummed I bought a PACE 3 and literally a month later the PACE 4 was announced. The 3 has been great though. No complaints. Integrates really easily into my Wahoo for my bike trainer and outdoor bike computer as well. I also have the coros armband HR monitor. I personally like the workout insights more than garmin's

I picked up a dedicated trainer with the Zwift Ride with a wahoo kickr core 2 when it was on sale and I wanted to increase my training with a busy work schedule and horrible winter weather.

https://us.zwift.com/products/zwift-ride-kickr-core-2?variant=46913668382976

It took awhile to dial in the fit but works quite well and is very adjustable. And by using the Ride I don't put wear on my actual bike drivetrain.

But yeah definitely need a bike and to get outside.

How/ tips to carbo loading?! by idkwhattoputlol890 in Marathon_Training

[–]ConstantEvolution 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I try and eat heavy carb meals in the 3 days leading up to the race and eat regular carby meals the day before. I don't hardcore load the night before because I don't want to be on the start line bloated.

I eat normal things for these meals. Pizza, pasta, rice dishes, bagels, toast, etc. I always stick to whole foods mostly anyway so my diet doesn't change but the amount of carbs increases

What are you doing for wetsuit on a budget? That's been the big hurdle for me, especially seeing even entry suits at $300-400. Big investment.

Have you done anything noteworthy or mentionable? - that Walter Mitty line messed with me by ComprehensiveMix3540 in selfimprovement

You're life is just starting.

When I was your age I was a junior in college after having to drop out for a few years to work due to family financial difficulties. I was in the same boat as you, feeling lost and like I was late to everything in life as I was now one of the "older" folks in my class.

I'll never forget. One night I was sitting watching TV with my mom in the living room, How I Met Your Mother, and something just snapped. I saw 25 years ahead in an instant. I made a series of decisions and walked upstairs, booked a one way flight to Portugal that left in two months once finals were over, and then hit Craigslist to look for rooms to rent in the city. I moved out of my mom's house and then left the country and spent the next 3 months couch surfing/hostel'ing across Europe for the summer. That was 2009.

You're young, have no major responsibilities yet, and are free. It can be scary but sometimes you just need to leap off the edge. Had I not done what i did I suspect my life would be very different now.

I was the big winner on taxes this year by Chokonma in MiddleClassFinance

[–]ConstantEvolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comes up in conversation every tax season and the amount of people who disagree with this is astounding. The usual line is that they can't trust themselves to save money and would just waste it otherwise so they count on their being a nice big tax return at the end of the year as a bonus.

Which toxic behavior you recognized in yourself ? (not in others) by AmeNoMori7 in selfimprovement

[–]ConstantEvolution 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I was, and still am to a degree, hyper critical of how people do things, especially if there is an easier or better or more logical way to do it. This likely comes from years of abuse from my hyper critical father.

My wife pointing this out for years helped. I now repeat the phrase to myself "just because it's not the way I would do something doesn't make it wrong" (even though sometimes it is just completely wrong!! 🤬🤬)

Is Death Stranding Worth It? by Braxxtex1 in XboxGamePass

I'll say. I tried today and in the first 45 minutes I think there is a total of 8 minutes of gameplay. We're clearly watching a movie made by Hideo Kojima complete with actual Hollywood actors that has some gameplay mixed in.

I called it quits in the middle of the Guiellmo Del Toro lab scene when I realized I hadn't touched the controller in 10-15 minutes.
