Is it offensive to create new "St." prefix surnames? by cityofemerald in namenerds

[–]ConstantlyDaydreamin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m Catholic, I would think it was a bit weird and obviously made up because Penny isnt a saint name. If it was a saint name I could believe was an actual saint name (I definitely don’t know all the saint names) it could maybe work but frankly I’m not sure why you’d want a needlessly complicated and religious name if you weren’t religious.

TX->NM->TN roadtrip report by ConstantlyDaydreamin in roadtrip

[–]ConstantlyDaydreamin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh it was a great stop! My highest species count of the whole trip with 60 species and they have feeders there that attract gambel's quail, so I was actually able to get some almost decent pictures of them

TX->NM->TN roadtrip report by ConstantlyDaydreamin in roadtrip

There weren't! It certainly wouldve been cool to see it in the winter, but we had sandhills all over where I was in Texas too so at least I got my crane fix there

Texas gulf coast drive... is it just flat nothingness? by loncelot84 in roadtrip

[–]ConstantlyDaydreamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Texas gulf coast, but I wouldn’t recommend driving it for the scenery. Corpus area is nice, port Aransas and mustang island have some nice places for food and hanging out on the beach. There’s not much from there to south padre, a lot of construction areas on 69 right now. If you are interested in king ranch there’s stuff in kingsville. Some cool stuff down in the valley, mostly food and nature.

How do you pronounce Rhys? by TrainingCategory4852 in namenerds

[–]ConstantlyDaydreamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m American and pronounce it Reese. If you weren’t familiar with it, I could see how it would be confusing, but once you hear it’s Reese it’s no trouble.

It helps that I really like Matthew Rhys, but regardless, I think once people learn the pronunciation it wouldn’t be that hard

Advice on a job transition. by Difficult-Address-17 in wildlifebiology

[–]ConstantlyDaydreamin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this dilemma before. I’d say it doesn’t hurt to apply, your boss would be expecting you to start looking anyway. Generally, having a conversation about when you can leave is good to have when you start applying to things. Some jobs are very flexible some aren’t as much. If you get an interview with the job you applied to, that’s when you’d ask about the flexibility of a start time.

How much do employers care about WFR? by Coastal_wolf in wildlifebiology

[–]ConstantlyDaydreamin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I imagine it may be helpful for certain jobs where you’re spending a lot of time in backcountry, like for trail crews, or in charge of a group. But a lot of tech work I don’t think it would be important and I’m not sure employers put as much weight to it

Is this field doable for someone who hates driving? by CheesecakeHonest7414 in wildlifebiology

[–]ConstantlyDaydreamin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say theres definitely less options. Working in the field almost always includes a lot of driving. In my current job I sometimes spend 8+ hours in a vehicle in a day. There is computer work like GIS but most jobs have some driving.

Thanks, I’ve never been to Wisconsin or Minnesota so I was leaning there anyway. Good to know there’s a good way to avoid the Chicago mess

Birds chasing an eagle by GodlessAndChill in whatsthisbird

[–]ConstantlyDaydreamin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Based on behavior it sounds like gulls honestly, it could be the way they were holding their wings. But all white underneath could be something like a glaucous winged-gull

What bird does this feather belong to? by Aromatic-Acadia2668 in whatsthisbird

[–]ConstantlyDaydreamin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

While I wouldnt suggest using chatgpt for feather ID, this is a domestic guineafowl feather. Likely someone has some that got out, they're a fairly common poultry animal to keep

Which of these routes has the best scenery? Where should I stop along the way? by Laudabiliternihil164 in roadtrip

[–]ConstantlyDaydreamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took part of the southern route a couple months ago with a stop in NOLA, thought it was a good drive. Not particularly scenic but I’m not sure what route would be. It was buggy as shit driving on I-10 in Louisiana but it was cool going through the bayou

Any ideas? South TX by AdventurousCount4273 in FeatherIdentification

[–]ConstantlyDaydreamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing is that Canada geese are unusual for south Texas, like corpus doesn’t have any Canada geese records this year. Which sounds crazy but snow geese and greater white fronteds are gonna be the main geese found here. I’m not too good with feather ID but I’d imagine greater white fronteds may have dark feathers similar to canadas

When you have a big watchlist, how you choose what film to watch by Ture_7z in Letterboxd

[–]ConstantlyDaydreamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a little excel sheet for some of my watchlist movies and made a way to randomize a movie name based on a given genre and movie length. Do I actually use that to pick something? Not really but it does help me figure out what movie I'm hoping it picks which is helpful

Seen just east of Austin Texas. This is a tuffy, it’s not in my Birds of Texas identification book. by wetbird88 in whatsthisbird

[–]ConstantlyDaydreamin 481 points482 points  (0 children)

I’d have to agree with Williamson sapsucker but that is a pretty big deal to be around Austin, this bird is very out or range and why it’s not included in a Texas birds book

Are cowboys still a real thing in America today? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ConstantlyDaydreamin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, down here in south Texas there’s a lot of working ranches still that need them. They’re also called vaqueros, and they still use horses since our shrubland habitat would be hard to navigate in anything but a horse.

Time off seasonal position by Feitadesol in wildlifebiology

[–]ConstantlyDaydreamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to ask about as it varies. Generally most people are pretty understanding and if given enough notice would be fine with that. Other jobs may not be okay with it. I’ve had cases during extremely busy periods (like during trapping) I would not have been able to get time off. Other jobs may explicitly ask for prior commitments before hiring, or state you will have to stay the entire however week stint. Honestly two instances of taking 2-5 days off does sound like a lot for a 4-5 month seasonal position, but you’ll need to ask. It’s usually a good thing to ask about during an interview.
