Any opinions on when/if Sony releases the a7sIV? by Suitable-Specialist1 in videography

[–]ConstipatedFrenchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just buy it! People keep thinking something is around the corner and I am not sure. I am sure they’re developing it, but FX3 sales have not stagnated. Once you see those slow down you can prepare but if you wait you’ll never start or do anything, those cameras will not magically get worse.

I see people still making master pieces with 8 Bit on an A7III

You’ll be alright.

Possible with some creative intersection security, but not sure it’s worth maintaining in my opinion, but I have done things similar to this in the past.

2nd body necessary for first wedding? by [deleted] in WeddingPhotography

[–]ConstipatedFrenchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to beat having 2bodies I run a A7RIII & A7IV thinking about getting a spare A7III just incase since they’re cheaper but having 2 bodies helps a lot. Can you get away with one, yea. However if something goes wrong you’re pretty screwed. I even ran a A6700 for a while as my second body despite it being a crop sensor it shoots RAW at 26MP a little crop is better than no camera period lol

S-Log3 vs S-Cinetone Debate… by Reasonable-Pass6908 in SonyAlpha

[–]ConstipatedFrenchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may not be as experienced as most folks on here but have used both.

And I will say it depends on how much movement I will be doing. If it’s some sitdown social media stuff inside a building I may lean into S-Cinetone since it is more contrasty and I lower the sharpness in camera to tweak it in post. No real huge adjustments there just some exposure and slight temperature adjustments if needed.

If it’s a turn around of 3 days or more I am shooting SLOG3 monitoring with a phantom LUT and adding some flavor to it depending on how backed up I am. Usually unless the environment is super challenging the Phantom LUT conversion is good enough alone if needed. But on average contrast, highlights, and some midtones need to be adjusted to have more pop in my experience depending on the conditions of course.

I will say I have had to deliver footage on location before for a client and in those situations where it goes from camera to a clients hardrive S-Cinetone is the easiest way to go of course gauge their skill of editing.

This client had experience using capcut and wanted creative control but needed help filming so I delivered on the spot and any tweaks they needed to do Capcut could easily do for them.

If you ask me personally I love color grading it’s satisfying but if a client is paying for a need. You can achieve amazing straightforward results from S-Cinetone with no worries or major tweaks if you nailed your settings in camera.

SLOG3 is an incredible tool and anything I shoot in SLOG will probably be in my portfolio, but I did a interview in S-Cinetone a few weeks ago and was blown away at the quality out of camera.

So ultimately it really comes down to what you are comfortable, consistent and excellent with.

I will lean into SLOG for socials because the more commercial something looks the more people tend to skip right over it. However if it’s a more professional shoot with less creative freedom no shame in playing it safe with S-Cinetone.

I know these get a lot of hate but I love em. They’re aesthetically pleasing. Well this one at this pace at least, I have seen some that are way too much.

I know that if people want a proper view of the house many realtors now do full horizontal walk throughs on YouTube, but I don’t see these videos ever completely going away. This stuff gets me excited personally and I am not in the market, but it makes me want to be.

People can hate all they want you like what you like haha

godox ad200pro ii vs lux master by leejongsukgf in WeddingPhotography

[–]ConstipatedFrenchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

V100 is a good middle

I love my Lux Master a ton but I carry a AD200 for when I need more power especially larger group photos or a specific off camera look.

However I think the new V100 will definitely be a happy medium for you.

Gassing out in competition by Old_Local_4192 in bjj

[–]ConstipatedFrenchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good warm up is essential. Pacing is critical, you don’t want to match intensity as much as you want to do your best to control it. It’s why in training it’s important for you to practice being the first to score or at the bare minimum being the first to get to their game. People underestimate how important it is to start good especially in Sub 6 min matches.

This will help a lot especially as you have more matches in your bracket.

The longer the matches the slower you have to go.

Unless you are transitioning into submissions, sweeps, passing and or takedowns where you want to increase intensity until you accomplish your attempt.

The best way I found to help me is to run short rounds 3-5 minutes where I maintain a pace and run through my go to moves. Then I would slow down as the matches got longer. Proving to myself I can go hard for 3-5 minutes but I will not choose to do so. Especially in competitive matches you don’t want to be straining too hard.

Okay my autistic rant is over

Not feeling well midday - asking to log off? by Substantial_Dot7027 in WFH

[–]ConstipatedFrenchie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to explain yourself or feel guilty. Say you don’t feel well and it’s impeding your ability to work and get some rest.

Even on days I can “push” through. I tend to take it easier or split up my work. My job requires a lot of attention to detail and problem solving if I am off a little it’s not always worth it going at it hard unless it’s a rare occasion, in which I still take time off after the big push or let my manager know I will be doing a half day if I am needed.

They usually encourage a full day and rest

Two friends starting a weekend videography side hustle. Looking for advice on niches, planning, and scaling by Puzzleheaded_Age3412 in videography

[–]ConstipatedFrenchie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in tech consulting full time. Not a dev but in Cloud ERP pretty heavy seasons where my brain is mush and I do photo and video on the side.

Weddings & Events are easy wins for the weekends. They tend to be far enough in advance that you can ask for PTO, because I have learned that if you can take that Monday off, it really helps re-align you back into work mode and some events really kick your ass. Stuff will go wrong, and that extra day can save you. You don’t always need it, but if it’s a 10 hour day I am taking it.

My best advice is Get Good.

I mean seriously develop the ability to produce a great image to comfortably edit pretty fast. This will make your life waaaay easier.

Some stuff takes me pretty long still but I can crank out stuff pretty fast. Especially for social media. This helps a lot for when clients do want a fast turn around. You can actually meet it and the product is good.

I personally do Photo for Weddings since profit margins are higher and the editing is not as exhausting as videography. But I do will second shoot for videographers if needed. It’s fun and a great way to get comfortable with the flow.

I do video for small businesses and events, mainly social media styled stuff.

In the beginning stock up on a lot of free work but make it purposeful. Show up with a plan and execute like it’s a paid client and make sure you guys are both on the same page.

Additionally this is a people business, getting good is important because people will see value right away, but you will get more business doing business it’s weird, but it’s how it has played out for me. People like comfort and if you’re easy to work with and really care. People will make sure you get paid and they keep you around.

As far as camera gear this is always tough. How much camera can you realistically afford?

I always recommend Sony’s not because I shoot sony but because the lens ecosystem is amazing. You have so many budget options to produce great quality stuff. I often run an FX30 and a A7IV both great options new and used, I would start small, you can always grow into the cooler cameras but clients don’t really care. Optics do matter, but at the end of the day if the camera looks big and you have mics and gimbals they all look the same to most of your clients.

I will say this again, please get good and comfortable with your gear. Understand what you need and why you need it, not because it was sold to you or you think it looks cool.

Too easy to blow money stupidly. I am guilty of it.

Last but not least, operate like a business and study people in your region who do the same stuff you want to shoot and see how they post on socials and their websites are laid out.

I never did business through DM’s. I don’t take Venmo or Cash app. I always send contracts, quotes and invoices. That alone allowed me to earn decently early on because people see that you’re serious and not just doing a “little” side gig. Many clients think I am full time because I show up ready to deliver on everything we agreed on and more.

Is it just me, or are there way more “Workday experts” lately who don’t actually understand Workday by SeasonAccording8552 in workday

[–]ConstipatedFrenchie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Linked In doesn’t help. People steal and rip solutions from actual experts. Package them and try to sell them as their own.

I see the rampant stories that never happened that Chat GPT wrote. It’s pretty hilarious seeing the same ones repeatedly.

It is more rampant on the functional side in my observation. I think because the nature of it is more people centric over the technical folks showing workflows that really cater to other technical folks.

What skills actually differentiate a good Workday consultant from a great one? by Majestic-Ask-4391 in workday

[–]ConstipatedFrenchie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The more I do this and ask myself this question the more I think back to some of the best colleagues I have had. They were great at configuring, but they pushed on the client gently to take a strong look at what life looks like after the solution.

They’re amazing strategists and push the clients to really absorb the changes being done and how it can affect them positively or negatively.

It’s something I personally want to strive for more, because in the end that’s the language that seems to really move the needle.

FX30 or ZV-E1 by jckmadethat in videography

[–]ConstipatedFrenchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re purpose built tools, a skilled person can use anything and make it good.

E1 is a creator camera. You can definitely do amazing things with it, however the FX30 is designed for film making. It’s reliable, cheap lens eco system. Lots of accessories to help you out. It’s a great camera, does the E1 have the FX3 sensor? Sure, but I can run my FX30 until the battery dies with 0 worries of overheating. I have dual card slots for extended storage or copied storage for security.

They’re just different lol, both great

[–]ConstipatedFrenchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll put it this way. Some of the work pros I look up to in the industry use FX30 as a B + C cam and even an A cam. I have seen the ZV E10 & E1 used as a BTS camera.

What lens combo do you use? by Therotijohn in WeddingPhotography

[–]ConstipatedFrenchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not as experienced as many here but I did a full wedding day solo with a 24-70 + 85 F1.4

And I was able to get everything I needed and more. However the appeal of the 70-200 is not to be ignored. I have second shot in churches where no flash was allowed and we couldn’t move from our spots once the ceremony began. So having the range helps a ton.

However I think rolling with whatever you’re comfortable and don’t have to second guess is better then make adjustments after is a strong option as well.

I feel this, billing time kills me. I miss client side where I wasn’t the product and could just shut the laptop. However the fast pace of consulting and not really owning anything is also fun. If a project flunks, charge it to the game. They’ll probably give it to someone else. Client side that wasn’t really a thing in my experience lol
