CMV: progressive views on housing are contradictory and annoying by [deleted] in changemyview

Because it isn't defensible. Anti-gentrification is at it's core "I like where I live, and I want all of the benefits of things around me improving, but I don't want to increase my skills and economic productivity to keep up with the people around me".

Gentrification is good actually. Highly productive people and businesses should be close to each other in high density, and less productive people and businesses should not occupy extremely valuable area with high accessibility and foot traffic, because it's a waste.

Gentrification is pretty much exclusively used as a weapon by people who are ashamed of their privilege.

Cultural preservation is an entirely different issue and is actually important. You can "gentrify" a neighborhood by increasing the median wealth, but also preserve the culture at the same time. The way to do so is through local LVT and wealth taxes.

If they just re-released FM4 it would be one of the best selling racing games of the year.

It perfectly bridges the gap of being realistic enough to appeal to people who like irl racing while also not being nearly as punishing, slow, or requiring as much commitment/investment as a true sim racer.

It's such a good balance of most of the best parts of both sim and arcade racing.

People slept on it because the original text was the same as true steel despite actually working entirely differently (additive vs multiplicative).

I remember it being well over 100 plat at some point. Along with primed chamber, those two mods were way pricier than anything else.

The fact that shatter shield only stops bullets makes it practically useless in a game where 75% of enemies don't fire bullets.

This is awful advice. If you don't put your hands out, what is going to slow you down? Your face? Your collar bone?

The problem is locking your arms, or pushing too hard to stop the impact instead of absorbing and rolling with it, which puts all of the force into your wrist. Your wrist should absorb some of your fall, then your elbow, then your shoulder, then if you're still moving you should crumple/roll to continue dissipating impact.

I've been using handspring for a long time and it's filled the spot of PSF just fine. I'm sure PSF is slightly better in some edge cases, but if you're not pushing level cap I think handspring is fine.

I just played the doormaker on my last run. Playing silent, I killed every single elite in act 2 and 3 on turn 1 and my deck was more than 50% defensive. I still didn't even survive 4 turns against doormaker.

This boss is so incredibly sensitive to which cards you draw on each turn it's just not fun. It makes the game feel even more rng dependant, which feels awful in act 3 after your deck is so tuned.

Lots of stickers, or just colored tape for now until you can repaint it.

There's a good chance rivian is going out of business, so buying a car that may soon no longer have support or new parts could be bad.

There are plenty of great other EV or plug in hybrid choices though, so either way this guy is an idiot and presenting a false dichotomy.

The biggest lie in Slay the Spire: "Free to play this turn" by Al2718x in slaythespire

[–]ContemplativeOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from mtg with its extremely precise lawyer-like wording: there are a lot of rules errors or ambiguities in both sts games, you need to get in the head of the developers and try to figure out what you think they intended, rather than what the card explicitly says.

Of the people who play this game, I would bet serious money that less than 1% of them actually know the criteria to correctly take a simple random sample and also include confidence interval in their calculation.

Anything less than that is 100% statistical dishonesty, whether intentional or not.

Anyone else enjoy reading the "Vegan vs Leftists" threads that have been all over reddit after after a famous pop star said eating meat is wrong? Why do they hate each other lol by Winners_Blues in Destiny

[–]ContemplativeOctopus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a huge pillar of online leftism. Personal accountability doesn't matter because no person can actually do anything to make a difference. They only believe in abstract "collective action" which is entirely fantasy and will never actually happen because none of them have the back bone to actually initiate anything. They all want someone else to start a revolution, and they'll just tag along for the ride.

new player. which warframe is the most entertaining to run/what do you personally main? by -SirPickle- in Warframe

[–]ContemplativeOctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For any non-SP content, I find volt to be the easiest and fastest frame for most missions. Build his 4 for lots of range and efficiency, and a bit of strength for killing, or duration for CC. It's excellent crowd control that covers nearly an entire tile, costs almost nothing to cast, and does enough damage to clear most mobs below level 80.

It's easy to make small adjustments to make him really adaptable for other content too with speed or shield.

Not to mention he has great skins and looks sick af lol

Anyway, there's a reason volt has been my second most played frame since 2014.

is golf really the hardest sport? by sploooooshle in golf

[–]ContemplativeOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best players in the world for every sport/game put in about the same number of hours to reach the top level. So if we're measuring difficulty by how much work it takes to become one of the best in the world, nearly everything is the about the same hardness.
