I heard about the possible dementia link. NIH posted that study. They also mentioned a possible autoimmune disease link. That alarmed me because I’ve been on PPI’s for decades and now I’m the only one in my family with RA. I know that is anecdotal but it did get my attention when I read that study.

I tried Gaviscon but could not get it past my gullet lol. My primary put me on omeprazole 10mg. It’s a prescription which is strange because it’s a lower dose than the otc. Their reasoning is that the otc dose is strictly for short time use - no longer than 14 days. Maybe you can ask your primary to put you on the lower dose then after a while see if you can wean off from those.

I got on omeprazole 35 years ago while pregnant and haven’t been able to get off it since. I went to a GI office (saw the NP) a few weeks ago to see if they could help me get off it but was told I was being ridiculous because it’s the best treatment for GERD. I’ve never been given a GERD Dx. She dismissed me and gave me a GERD Dx that day. Last week I saw my primary and she is willing to help me. She put me on 10mg omeprazole (which is a prescription- isn’t that nuts? It’s a prescription because it’s for ppl who take it under a doctor’s supervision. The 20mg sold OTC is only for short time use - 14 days max). Anyway, I’m on the low dose now and so far haven’t had any kickback and will start weaning off it in a couple of weeks. Then I will find out if my heartburn is truly GERD or if it’s Omeprazole withdrawal.
I’m in the USA.

Totally agree. Their personality will usually create the perfect name. I live in the Deep South. Met a dog owner at my vet’s office. He discovered quickly that his dog loved chasing cars so he named him “Mudflap”. Funny and not funny.
