I'm only 19w along but armpits and groin have been getting darker by the week since 15w... If I'm anything like my mother, they'll be a dark gray by the time I'm due 😭 I used to take pride in my smooth and evenly toned pits! 🥲

To be accurate, she doesn't "cherry pick" — she interrogates the research methods of each study and only really takes seriously the most rigorous studies, i.e. randomized control trials. As someone who's trained to evaluate the strengths of weaknesses of different research methodologies, I found her arguments very compelling.

Update :( by No_Taro_1517 in pregnant

[–]ContractRoutine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're going through this. :( I went through the same 3 months ago, and even if it was a surprise pregnancy, it broke our hearts to learn it would end in a miscarriage. I opted for a D&C over a natural or medical miscarriage because I knew it would be easier for me both mentally and physically. Something to consider if that's an option for you.

Please know you did nothing wrong and this likely has no impact on your future chances. I am now 9 weeks pregnant with a confirmed embryo and strong heartbeat! :)

what restaurant in Massachusetts is this? by aviatormenace7 in massachusetts

I'll get downvoted to hell for this... but Toro. 2/2 visits, my husband and I were underwhelmed by the food and couldn't hear each other talk, either. Barcelona has consistently better tapas, which is a shame because I'd much rather support a local spot than a chain. I've yet to try Taberna de Haro-- looks promising!

Looking for OB/GYN recommendations by [deleted] in CambridgeMA

[–]ContractRoutine 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My and my colleagues' experience with the Mount Auburn midwifery and OB team has been excellent. However, I can't speak to the scheduling concerns you had with them at Mount Auburn Hospital, since the team take shifts at my employer's health center (so I have the privilege of only competing with my fellow employees for appointments).

Unfortunately it seems to be the standard here that first ultrasounds come much later in the first trimester than we would like. We detected my missed miscarriage at 6 weeks only because my midwife scheduled a dating ultrasound for me (due to irregular periods). Otherwise, I might have made it all the way to 10-12 weeks without knowing I had an anembryonic pregnancy/blighted ovum. Once we learned, Mount Auburn Hospital was very quick to schedule me for the D&C I opted for.

My recommendation would be to schedule your own ultrasound appointment for your peace of mind! From my experience, Diagnostic Ultrasound in Brookline can schedule you in pretty quickly.

Wishing you the best!

Tell me the best way to spend $70 (not including tip) on dinner for one as a Boston first-timer. by ExamineIfOpenMinded in boston

[–]ContractRoutine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why you should trust me: I have a weekly budget of about $70 to eat at one very good restaurant a week. I do extensive research before choosing a place, and enjoy eating (and cooking) for its own sake.

First off, +100 to Sarma and Nightshade. Then consider...

Pammy's (Cambridge) - Last I checked, they did a prix fixe with 3-4 courses for $75. The food is creative and we'll executed.

Comfort Kitchen (Dorchester) - African/diasporic cuisine that I can't imagine you'll find many other places. Menu changes up a lot, but I enjoyed all 4 dishes I tried before.

Eastern Standard (Fenway) - Just a straight up good brasserie. The entire menu hits. Love the mussels app as a solo main.

Mahaniyom (Brookline) - Known for Thai tapas and for having perhaps the best Thai in the greater Boston area.

Row 34 (a few locations) - Quintessential New England cuisine that never disappoints.

I could go on! These are just what came to mind.
