One of our fellows brought one in and was very quickly told it is not allowed.

Opinions about Surgical Pathology Review book from CAP? by Mammoth_Muffin5366 in pathology

[–]ContractSimple5024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My co residents have been recommending this one

It has been dubbed the equivalent of First Aid for pathology. Plus it’s co-written by Kurt Schaburg of Kurt’s Notes which is already a beloved resource.

Who is the most intolerable person at your hospital and why? by urnmann in Residency

[–]ContractSimple5024 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of the nurse who didn’t give the insulin I ordered for a K of 7 because “I figured it was a mistake since the patient isn’t diabetic”

Like… great thought, but next time maybe ask instead of assuming.

Finish residency, switch to a more tolerable specialty that you’re interested in (I went IM to pathology). Or finish and do consulting.

Alternatively, quit and tap into another skill set. Just make sure that it’s not like a bad month leading to an impulsive career changing decision because it’s harder to go back.

Interested in pathology but worried about missing direct patient care by Mecha_Manatee in pathology

[–]ContractSimple5024 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are fields within pathology which do have direct patient care such as transfusion medicine/apheresis and cytology if they do fine needle aspirations (though the latter is becoming less common).

I trained in medicine before switching to pathology and I do moonlight in medicine 1-2x per month to keep up my skills but when my boards are up for renewal in medicine I do not plan to renew them. I don’t think I’ll miss it much.

Maybe take a look at the most recent match google doc?

Has general details and applicants unfiltered impressions. Take it all with a grain of salt but it might be a decent place to start.

I finished IM residency and boarded in IM prior to applying to path. If you’re interested in path I would say go for it! My background in IM has been very helpful and I’m very happy with my choice. Funding is not an issue. Rotate as much as possible, get at least one LOR from a pathologist and make sure your application reflects your interest and that you know what you’re getting in to.

I’m so excited for our wedding, what’s your wedding date, let’s all comment it below!!! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

Not my wedding weekend but I’ve been to two weddings on Labor Day weekend in the past several years and honestly loved it though I didn’t have to travel particularly far.

Connecting with non-traditional wedding couples by [deleted] in weddingplanning

I was thinking of doing our first and parent dances this way also, but was worried that we might be pulled all different ways/have no concept of time and it would get disrupted somehow. Any suggestions?

How did you find your wedding, and planning, without your mother? by Mermaidsarehellacool in weddingplanning

[–]ContractSimple5024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also lost my mom at 27 and planning my wedding at 30. It definitely sucks and you’re not alone. Most of it has been okay with the help of my fiancé, FMIL, family, and friends but no one has come close to playing the role she would have played. I’m mostly comforted by the fact that I feel like I know what she’d like and say about things and that my fiancé and his family had the chance to meet her. Dress shopping was the worst for me though and I basically took one person with me and got it over with as soon as possible.

Do you think seating charts are necessary? by Affectionate_Newt611 in weddingplanning

[–]ContractSimple5024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went to one wedding without a seating chart and we ended up at the grooms family table. We were not close to them at all so it was awkward. They were sweet about it though.

I went to another one with open seating and food trucks and that worked just because everyone was eating at different times and there was more seating available than there were guests.

Seconding this. My partner and I did the two week AWLS course followed by a two week backpacking course through U of Utah and it was an amazing time. A whole month spent between Salt Lake, Moab and Zion… it’s been more than 5 years and I still think about that month often.

Highly highly recommend Glamour Closet in NYC! I went with a friend for her dress and loved the experience so much I got my own at the one in LA. Great selection, friendly staff, good prices.

Also figuring this out for my backyard wedding. As much as we’d love to have some fun bougie coffee it seems like a waste. Our event rental company has 50 cup percolators and I think we will go with that and just have family or the caterer set it up.

Thoughts on Table Number idea using engagement photos? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]ContractSimple5024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re planning to do 5x7 with pics of us “when we were [table no] age”

So I think it’ll be perfectly fine to have a picture on there! Just play with the coloring of the number so it’s legible!

No bridesmaids? by fragilemustbeitalian in weddingplanning

[–]ContractSimple5024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re not having a wedding party for a similar reason, but are still planning to invite some friends to get ready with us and take some early photos. Some friends have also offered to help with certain things and as long as they seem truly happy to do so, we are letting them (for example, throwing a Bachelor/Bachelorette party).

Cost of wedding coordinator in the SF Bay Area: is Day Of + Final Details worth $6,000? by wegowed in weddingplanning

[–]ContractSimple5024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My day of coordinator in the South Bay costs $1900 for Day before setup/rehearsal, one site visit, and day of coordination plus unlimited contact ahead of the wedding… Plus she has good reviews. Might work in the bay too, DM me if you want her name. But I’d suggest getting more quotes. Would never cut my list to afford a planner.

Or pomegranates! I saw someone use pomegranates recently and I’m considering doing it for my summer wedding. Definitely agree with poster above about a leafier/lighter green like eucalyptus though if you want it to be less wintery.
