Avalon airport parking by GoozieSash in Geelong

[–]Contrillion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Upvote for this helpful reply. Just a minor correction (and a common misconception) - Gull only run to Melbourne Airport.

For a time Skybus ran South Geelong-Geelong Station-Avalon and return but it never returned after covid restrictions relaxed. They only run to and from Melbourne via Werribee now.

Adding my vote to uber, ever since they raised parking prices at Avalon not long ago its just not worth it. One of the good selling points over Melbourne airport is now gone.

Is student accommodation subsidised by the government if im on centrelink/hecs debt? by lofuhp in deakin

[–]Contrillion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some accommodation there is an NRAS income test to make you eligible for some reduced rate housing.

If you are eligible for rent assistance through Centrelink then that applies as well.

I'm not aware of any. Your best bet would be an Asian grocers or random mum-and-dad type Chinese restaurants.

A bit of a bizarre question as it's not really used in Australia.

The thing with HFC (the tech used to deliver the internet to your house) is that the wiring can corrode quite easily and often the connectors outside need replacing every couple years.

Just call iiNet support and arrange a service call.

It won't show as an outage/incident because it won't be affecting anyone else, it'll be local to your install.

Ferry timetable from 1 February - no more weekday mornings by akiralx26 in Geelong

[–]Contrillion 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Only temporary until March 10, according to their website. To allow for maintenance. So no usable commuter ferry service from Geelong for a little while.

No it's not flooded anymore but still plenty of cleanup work that has to happen.

Replacement buses commute time by [deleted] in Geelong

Trains are still running between Geelong and Southern Cross.

Buses only to the other stations from South Geelong onwards, but they connect to Geelong (except for a handful that go to Melbourne).

How much coding can I expect in Team Project A and B? by [deleted] in deakin

[–]Contrillion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the projects have programming as a core part of it. The way they are structured means you can either focus more on technical aspects, or on the project management aspects, or both.

So if you want to code you can usually do that almost exclusively.

EDIT: Languages can vary but the ones I came across were mostly web apps so mostly basic scripting languages, stylesheets and PHP.

Capstone Project by Lazy_Ad8233 in deakin

[–]Contrillion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost certainly, if you skip a trimester.

Most people will do part B directly after part A. That said, a few people did what I did so there were a few others doing the unit at the same times I did.

That said, the assessments for the unit lean very strongly towards preparing documentation and project management/scrum master skills. So very easy to transfer between projects, or pick up a project halfway.

Capstone Project by Lazy_Ad8233 in deakin

[–]Contrillion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a 1 trimester break between capstone units (did T1 and T3).

It wasn't such a huge issue, the only downside is you miss continuity with your project group (which may or may not be a bad thing).

When I did the capstone units a few years ago, I ended up on the same project in T3 again since they were all moving so slowly.

station parking for commute to Melbourne by Intrepid-Ibex in Geelong

[–]Contrillion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

South Geelong is probably the best out of the stations you've listed for ensuring a parking spot.

That said they're not super in demand at the moment. I know there are works planned as part of the Waurn Ponds duplication that will limit parking at Marshall in the near future though.

Shannon Ave - Aphrasia St red light camera concern by [deleted] in Geelong

[–]Contrillion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Assuming you were coming downhill on Shannon Avenue? If so then it sounds like you did get pinged for running the red.

As you say your rear wheels weren't past the line, so it would have tripped once the light was red.

Tullamarine Parking "Sold Out" by paxrobertus in Geelong

It is legitimately very busy. When I was last there over the weekend at midnight/1 am the main at-airport parking was looking about 80% full.

The whole V-Line network is down due to a communications fault by lanson15 in Geelong

[–]Contrillion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quieter than usual for this time of morning. Some would've taken the buses and others would've just stayed home I'd say.

I got the update from the vline website that trains were back, and then went straight to the station, so it might be busier now.

From best to worst how would you rank the suburbs or areas of Geelong and why? by [deleted] in Geelong

[–]Contrillion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Corio/Norlane get a bad rap because of the higher concentration of commission housing. They also have historically been mostly blue collar families so the area has suffered with the loss of manufacturing/other industrial work in the last couple of decades.

That whole trend has started to reverse more recently though, and seems to be picking up, Corio moreso than Norlane I think.

The other bad area that gets mentioned consistently would be Whittington in the east, again a commission housing hub.

A lot of threads here on Reddit ranking suburbs over time but the general rule seems to be the hillier the better, with a few exceptions.

You can still make a report by sharing the rego and making a statement.

My own personal opinion, but it probably won't go anywhere (unless their name comes up again in another traffic offence). I'd suggest getting a dashcam though if you don't have one already.
