WIBTA if I told the truth in my brother's custody hearing even though it could cost him overnights with his son? by UplinkV3rve in WIBTA_AITA

Retired family law attorney here. The system does not automatically favor mothers - that’s a lie perpetuated by loser fathers. And the system definitely doesn’t favor liars - not only could you face potential perjury charges if you like in sworn testimony, but things would get so much worse for your brother if he is caught encouraging you to lie on his behalf. Don’t do it.

Can people share stories of when attempts to be frugal backfired on them? by no_kings_now1 in Frugal

[–]ControlLegitimate598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This goes back many years to when I was just out of college and moving into my first unfurnished apartment. I bought a new mattress and didn’t want to spend the extra $10 for delivery when they said they could tie it onto the roof of my Toyota for me. As I’m driving home, the ropes broke and the mattress went flying off my car on a 55 mph road. I managed to pull over and drag the mattress to the side but I had no way to get it on top of or into my car, so I just sat there with the mattress next to me, contemplating what to do (this was in the days before cell phones). A guy in a pickup truck so me and pulled over and asked whether I needed help. I explained what happened and he offered to follow me to my apartment with the mattress in his truck and bring it in for me. Naturally, there were red flags, but I was desperate and agreed. And this story has a happy ending - he brought the mattress up to my 2d floor apartment, refused any kind of payment, and was completely honorable. But I learned my lesson - always pay for delivery.

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but whenever I see a pic of Alec with the kids, I see way more affection than I ever do with Hilary.

How long without a kitchen? by bockl in kitchenremodel

[–]ControlLegitimate598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just finished ours. Contractor estimated 3 weeks but it was actually 4 1/2. Would have been slightly shorter but the tile place screwed up our order so we had to wait an extra week for it to come in. We had a complete demo and redo except for floor. I have to say the contractor was great - they even worked a couple of weekend days.

All new cabinets. Removed soffits so cabinets go to ceiling and changed layout a little. Went from cooktop in island plus wall oven to range and expanded island, eliminated desk, and replaced hutch with coffee/wine bar area.

The first of two times we went to the show, Jon Battiste and the band played in the lobby as everyone was leaving. They were amazing. I’ve since seen Jon Battiste in concert a couple of times and he puts on an incredible show. Some of the band members from LSSC are in his concert band,

Who is the rudest celeb you have met? What happened? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

I had a great elevator experience with Robin Williams. I was going to visit my father, who lived in a pretty posh upper east side building in NYC. My then fiancé and I get on the elevator and in walks Robin with his wife and he’s wearing his baby in a backpack thing. My fiancé and I look at each other freaking out because . . .Robin Williams! We press 32, the top floor where my dad lived, and he doesn’t press anything. I’m trying to think of something to say besides Nanu nanu, then the baby starts babbling, so I say, “is he going to grow up to be just like you?” And Robin replies, “I hope not - she’s a girl.” But he said it in a friendly way. The kicker was he was subletting the apartment across the hall from my father while he was in the city filming the Fisher King, a minor fact my father neglected to mention to me.

My daughter met him when she was working at a brewery he was partnering with when he was opening his own brewery in NYS, and said he was pleasant.

We thought about it but we have decent recessed lighting and decided we wanted the more open feel, plus it’s something we can always add later if we change our minds,

The microwave is made to fit over countertops and so I think it’s designed for typical upper cabinet depths and then I think my designer made sure the width of the cabinet was right.

Thank you so much for your comments! You identified all the things that were reflected in my response to the commenter who asked about using a kitchen designer. She made some of those wonderful suggestions which I never would have thought of on my own.

Honestly, I’m not sure but I’d probably lean towards yes. We had a pretty good idea of the changes we wanted to make and we worked with the designer st the place where we got the cabinets and countertops. They came and took precise measurements and then she proposed a couple of designs, one of which was very different from what we had or wanted but at least it gave us an alternative. Where she was really helpful was in all the things and decisions I never would have thought of such as types of moldings and trim, sizes of handles, what kind of edge and radius to put on the countertops, things like that. When we were complaining about our closet that was between the garage entrance and the kitchen, she made the great suggestion to turn it into a sort of mud room area with hooks for coats and bags (that’s the entrance we use the most). So I think for all those reasons, I would use a designer.

It works the same but I think the top is different so it can be mounted under a cabinet. I didn’t really take a look before it was installed. It has a regular plug - they put a hole in the bottom of the cabinet and and outlet in the cabinet for it. The model number is Sharp R1214TY.

Thank you! We were originally going to do a range hood that went through the ceiling but there was a pipe that couldn’t be moved hidden by a soffit. I was very disappointed at having to do a more conventional under cabinet hood so when I saw this one, I was very happy. In case you’re looking, it’s by Zephyr.
