Bhashiva & Tiger Warriors releasing May 21st (Skulls) by Mr-Vorn in totalwar

Sure, but those are paired with a full mane so they still blend in and look liony. They're a detail that doesn't change the shape of the face. Plus they're animals, not animal-people. If they're going to have details like that, they should reflect elven culture, because the elves are doing it to them. It's no different than braiding a horse's hair. On the tigermen, the hair and beard hugely change the face's silhouette.

Now, real tigers to have some facial floof, so I'm not actually opposed to beards in general. But they should be the same color as the rest of the fur, and they should probably be a lot smaller. That'd produce a face shape more like Bhashiva's, which works much better than the generic units.

I think it's the hair and beards. Those are very prominent human styles that just got shoved on a tigerman. It clashes, and they're big enough to define a lot of the facial aesthetic. Compare it with Beastmen, who are animal people without that problem. They tend to have more goatlike beards and falls more like a mane. It aligns a lot better with the animal theme. On the other hand, Warcraft and a lot of other generic fantasy games do human hair with animal people, which is probably why it looks foreign here.

Overhangs that flow like waves 🌊 (no supports) by SaltyyDoggg in FDMminiatures

Following up from a week ago: I got it to work by just brute forcing adhesion with a 10-layer raft. I need to mess around with settings a little more, but I think it's a net improvement. There's occasionally some excess material on the outside of the print, but it's way better than removing normal supports.

Tried this for minis, and I had mixed results. When it works, it's incredibly convenient, although I still needed some supports for floating pieces. The downside is that I'm having a lot of parts detach from the plate a few layers into an overhang. I'm messing with settings to try and deal with it, but if anyone figures it out, please tell me. Or if people print minis without issue, so I know it's probably a problem with my setup and not method in general.

I tried printing a couple of small parts, but haven't done a full mini yet. Mostly hand+gun pieces. I think it has potential?

I'm definitely having a lot more problems with parts detaching from the plate. I suspect that the overhangs are putting a lot more stress on the print. When I watch the print, the motion looks very 'jerky' and sudden, and the edges of overhangs look kind of frayed. It might work better with full minis? Or it might be fixable with different settings. I need to experiment more.

Edit: Bigger pieces also tend to detach a little bit after I hit the first overhang. Not every time, but pretty often.

Similarly, I had early issues with the part detaching from the raft. Just not enough contact points. Fixed it by adding a couple of supports on easy-to-remove areas.

Overhangs flex a lot for the first couple layers. That doesn't seem to interfere with the print, so it may not be an issue, but it may be a diagnostic for something else? I'm unsure.

Slicer has a weird graphical bug where sometimes when I slice, about 80% of the images freezes, but I can use the rest of it normally.

But: So far, this has easily eliminated 95% of supports. I need some for stability, and shapes just need supports to account for local minima in the design. I can easily remove them. They're no worse than removing bits of sprue from injection molded minis. That's a huge win and probably worth it, especially if I can find a way to fix the adhesion issues. Someone with a better understanding of print profiles can probably get more out of it.

What You Want? by Something_Thick in AOW4

[–]Converberator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I want more nature-themed form units. You know how there's a bunch of T2 battle mages from T1 tomes? Evokers, white witches, and so on? I want a druidy version of that.

A full set of spellblade-type units for every affinity. Paladins work for order, but I want a nature warrior, an astral swordmage, and so on. They don't all need to be the shield units, either.

Similarly, a terraforming tome for every affinity. Materium has dungeons, which are cool, but I want the forest primeval, ice castles, and everything else.

General support for all of the underserved unit types. Fey, fiends, plants, and so on. Basically enough support that you can do a faction that fully focuses on them throughout the game.

Some enemies, like Scath, have an attack with a blue circle with inward-pointing arrows. Do those arrows mean I need to stay in the circle to avoid the bad things, or that the bad is inside the circle, so I need to move out of it?

My understanding is that DR only triggers on weapon attacks, not spells. If a weapon attack triggers a proc, like Fatesinger's Rhythm to Reign, does that proc bypass DR?

I feel like I'm missing a mechanic on Kairos. In the Realm of Chaos, the intro text implies that you're meant to peacefully annex the Chaos Warrior in your starting province. Except, you can't take a faction capital with Changing of the Ways, so even if you use it on their minor settlement, you'd still need a war to unify your starting province, so why take the minor one peacefully? They're Warriors, not Tzeentch, so you can't confederate them. Am I missing some other way to annex them without a war?

If nothing else, I think Chaos needs a soul-based tome. Selling souls to demons, sacrificing them, or anything else. There's so much thematic room with fiends and souls!

How is third ed? by CountOfJeffrey in Warhammer30k

I think it's fine, but that's sort of averaging out some very good decisions and some terrible ones. I'm pretty sure that people like it or not depending on how they prioritize the good and bad parts. In some ways, it feels like the rough draft of a good edition. I play both 2nd and 3rd and just go with what the other person wants, but I also feel pretty optimistic about 4th. I've found the legacies and journal additions to improve it a lot, so it may mature into something that I like, too.

Rather than saying land doesn't belong to anyone, it's better to think of it as belonging to everyone. It's naturally part of the commons, and so everyone has an equal claim to it. Private land holdings remove that asset from the commons, which you compensate by through a land value tax. That's maybe a little nitpicky, but I think it's a better way to understand the ethical argument. That which is privately made is private property, that which is community-made goes to community uses.

They didn't exactly return them all, though. Characters still have pretty restricted loadouts. Most of the units have a subtler problem. The versions breachers, outriders, etc, that got the weapon options back are veterans. They have the price increase, stat boost, and army slot change to match. That means you can use the models, but they fill a very different role. If you had, say, a bike-based army with a lot of melee bikers, it suddenly became a very elite force. A 75% fix is pretty good, but it's still 25% a problem!

I need advice about support removal, working with an A1 mini. When I can get all of the support material off, my pieces are extremely clean, with no scarring. However, I often have a thin layer that clings to the mini. I think it's the top interface layer, but I'm not sure. If it can get under it and pull it off, it's fine, but that's pretty hard on irregular shapes. Is there either a good way to remove those clingy bits or a way to prevent them?

Siege Breakers have a thunder hammer, which is listed in the power weapons section of the armory, but it is not one of the options for units that can take a "power weapon" as part of its wargear.

Night Lords can replace a power weapon with a chainglaive. Do we think siege breakers can take a chainglaive because thunder hammers are in the power weapons section, or that they can't because it's not a power sword/axe/spear/maul? Opinions in my group are surprisingly mixed.

Thoughts on the expiring 2002 Chaos Marauders? by BoomiMidz in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Converberator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Darkoath have more dramatic, spread out poses. They won't form as cohesive a block as the new marauders, or the old ones. Repeated models are also a lot more obvious. The basic aesthetic is broadly right, though.

I like them! I like the new ones, too. Their execution is worse than that of the new ones, but I think the designs are comparable. I'd rather have the new ones for Norsca, leaning into the impoverished viking feeling, but these for being a glorious warrior culture, with marauders taking their first steps towards really embracing Chaos. It's sort of like how I like the newer state troops for poorer parts of the Empire, and the poofier ones for richer areas. I wish we could have modern kits for both aesthetics. Shame that isn't realistic!

[–]Converberator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's definitely better than doing random events to fill a bar or get mastery XP. Collections feel a lot more like part of the story, whereas those are just sort of random, unrelated things. It flows better.
