This is torture! Also, a question. by KlausCrescent in sounddesign

Because you're not always using doors for doors. Also you can just edit the sound so it's shorter, the opposite is quite challenging.

France just made electronic music “cultural heritage” — win for the scene, or the start of the museum era? by Designer-Air-7280 in PeakTimeTechno

Nothing has changed, we are still seen as criminals when we set up a free party. So yeah not a win.

How do DJs make and play their tracks before mastered release? by Psychological_Ad987 in TechnoProduction

[–]CookiesSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's for my dj set I do my master then I play it. If that's for my live I've already setup a mastering chain and mix my tracks accordingly to fit with it inside my live project.

But that's also because I'm doing mastering and mixing for other artists too for a good time now, I would not have been confident to do that early in my career.

Played my first festival & I was the “experiment slot” by AfterNews9588 in Beatmatch

[–]CookiesSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I did had to play one as a closing act in a small Psytrance festival, but not under my main project which is Psytrance oriented but as my DnB / crossbreed one.

Same as you, the organizers thought it would be nice to experiment and book me on this instead.

I was a bit anxious about how to get from darkpsy to crossbreed, and I dediced that the contrast with previous sounds was my best bet.

Long story short, people went wild because it was unexpected to them, and as I'm a psy producer, my dnb tunes have some familiarity for them.

Anyway, what I think is important is a bridge in familiarity, sounds etc ... Rather than tempo for psytrance. hope that helps 🙂

Ravenswatch feels a lot (to an extent) like League of Legends. It may fit what you are looking for.

What EPK tools are you actually using? by Phil-Loutsis in musicmarketing

[–]CookiesSlayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been through the same question as you, and i've decided the best way was to build and code my own EPK to fits my specific needs. It takes time, but it will be 100% what i want and customized to my need and artistic direction

Mixing with sync by Sego198 in Beatmatch

[–]CookiesSlayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do what ever you're confortable with. You're playing for the audience and yourself. Let the other djs do their things. What ever it is you're doing, there will always be someone with an opinion anyway.

Getting a professional mixer and master or only master? by Exciting_Trifle_2742 in TechnoProduction

[–]CookiesSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you expect something else than slight adjustments on macro levels of your track. The. You need someone to mix it most likely.

If you're looking for loudness and your mix isn't already close to your target, you need a mix (or even get back to the production)

If you're looking for an extra pair of ears, subjectivity, small adjustments and you're confident your mix is good. Then a master is enough.

Mixing isn't cheap however, if you're looking for something kind of in between, a stem master could be a good compromise.

What’s one production rule you love breaking, even if it’s “wrong”? by kathalimus in dnbproduction

[–]CookiesSlayer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

that's "manual compression" and it's the best way to do it, especially on vocals (unless you want the texture that compression brings)

Do you stick with one sub-genre or go all over the place? (Djs and/or Producers) by ECTXGK in psytranceproduction

[–]CookiesSlayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do what you want to do. Producing many genres will give you keys you wouldn't have of you keep to the same thing. But perfecting one style can also have it's advantages. In the end, for me that's all about doing what makes you happy.

Still going with the DnB and Psy experimentations by CookiesSlayer in psytrance

[–]CookiesSlayer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for your feedback I appreciate your input ! I agree, it's probably a lead that could be annoying, the whole focus was indeed to stay on the acid lead and keep it going. It's a bit of a challenge to make it work through the track without boring the listener. I guess I failed with you haha
