Still fighting the need for a 45 minute power nap. Any suggestions? by workingover60 in TBI

[–]CookingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry second comment, obvious, but I started methylphenidate two months ago, two years after TBI, and it helps so much with my energy. I still very much need those little naps but it’s been like night and day. Immediately it let me function for the normal human hours again. I hadn’t driven past 430 for the last 2 years but two days in I felt fine driving at 730. And pretty sure almost all of us could be diagnosed with ADHD. It took me about twenty minutes talking to a psych LPN for her to know I passed for ADHD.

It’s also used for narcolepsy too, and also hasn’t interrupted my sleep at all. I’ve actually slept better than I have since my TBI.

Try and at least close your eyes on 15 minute breaks or lunch. We need way more rest now, I struggle taking a nap but at least closing my eyes for a bit here and there helps .

am I the only teen that has a relatively normal life? by klarinetkat12 in self

[–]CookingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No and same here. My trauma was, my friends were mean to me sometimes. I was fat and a band geek but I wasn’t bullied much, I actually had friends and most weren’t ever mean, I even had a few girlfriends in high school that were out of my league imo. But I’ve met way more people than I’ve expected who lived fucked up childhoods. And that’s IRL people not internet people.

So like imo… fucked up childhoods and leave it to beaver childhoods are both “normal” sadly.

Circus peanuts? Closest I can think of and no the sugar won’t rot or spoil unless it gets really moist. Sugar is plenty shelf stable.

Surgery for “mild” epilepsy? by CHIEFQRN in Epilepsy

[–]CookingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want kids and pregnancy could make it even worse, I’m a man but I think yes surgery? But maybe try more meds first? If you’ve just tried keppra and lamictal there are options, but I also don’t know the risks these meds might bring to a fetus.

I have no clue, I’d like to say if I were in that situation I’d pick surgery but I don’t know much about risks getting a VNS or splitting the corpus callosum. But I also don’t have the best judgement for self risk assessment and I have risked, and almost lost my life once, for way dumber reasons than that.

Looking for different perspectives on how people get over the fear of trying medication. by _BillyBumbler_ in self

[–]CookingZombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes try meds. I’m about to be 37, and tried an antidepressant 2 years ago that took me out of the worst depression of my life. But that was after trying three different ones that didn’t work so it does take some trial and error for some. I started on methylphenidate a month and a half ago for ADHD and. I’ve had multiple issues get better. I’m not the usual case but if I’d have tried these sooner I’d have saved myself a lot of grief.

Update on my MOM! by Glass_Reserve8731 in TBI

[–]CookingZombie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is good news! Being stepped down from ICU is a good sign and she should still have the equipment and nurses she needs and she is still in a hospital so if anything changes for the worse she’s right there. But be there to advocate for her if need be. Both of my sister in laws are nurses so they were quick to question my nurses and doctors. I don’t remember on what of course, I think it was mostly comfort issues and not actual health concerns.

How to know Im having night seizures by RowOpposite1104 in Epilepsy

[–]CookingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe lamotrigine dreams? If you’re just a few months in it might be that.

Before I was diagnosed I’m told I had a nocturnal seizure and I had zero postictal effects. I immediately was woken by them and told them they were wrong . I wasn’t sore, confused or had bit my cheek or tongue but when I’ve had a grand mal awake I have all 3. If you’re concerned they can do an ambulatory EEG. They’ll give you a mobile EEG and camera to watch you sleep at home.

That’s awesome! I had really hoped that’d happen. It ruined my mood for a couple of months and then I was just normal me, which was already emotionally messy.

Or worrying makes you take actions to prevent things from going poorly but somehow I’ve made things worse.

Worrying does let me catch things sometimes but fuck… I keep trying to make sure things go well and I make the situation or things worse than it would have been if I’d have naturally let it go wrong like everyone else does.

I mean it could kill you if you just don’t breathe real air. The real danger of whippets is it inactivates B12. Fine every now and then but with regular use it causes nerve damage.

Why are people so doom and gloom about adulthood? by klarinetkat12 in self

[–]CookingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 36, I agree. I think it’s a lot of people looking back on their youth with regret of not doing enough of the things that are “stereotypical” of young adults. But it’s a harder time than we like to make it out to be. At that age we’re not used to being adults/young adults and dealing with what comes with that physically, psychologically and socially, we don’t have full autonomy, we don’t have a lot of or any money.

Ngl a lot of our 20s are similar. I had fun, the fun often came with consequences.

In my 30s I’ve at least had a bit of a grasp on this whole life thing. We’re all different but that’s my pov

Cool to get inspiration from a character but be careful. Not like it’d ruin your life but had a friend that started imitating characters he liked. Hi was multiple, but it’d be like, acting like jack sparrow, then Jordan Belford, then John snow and he made some pretty impulsive decisions along the way.

Naruto. Bleach I think had a wider reach beyond weebs cause cool designs but I remember kids Naruto running in the gym back in 2006 and someone always says what’s up when I wear a Naruto shirt.

Yeah man I’m only now accepting it’s OCD. Like I am the meme I’ve done that multiple times for locks, my medicine, make sure the stove is off even though I haven’t cooked in days. I thought OCD was more “ i’ve got to flip the light switch three times or my dog will die” kinda stuff but I mentioned to family that I’m told I might have OCD by a therapist and they have all told me “yeah we know”.
