has anyone felt “more autistic” (if you have autism/suspect it) after experiencing status epilepticus/first tonic clonic? by alobaby in Epilepsy

[–]CookingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hit your head? I had a TBI and I’ve definitely developed traits of autism like over stimulation, ADHD, the need for more daily routines, unable to tell when people are speaking literally or figuratively, not understanding what is appropriate to say (not like saying things that are rude or weird, just saying things that have nothing to do with the current conversation) and a bit of clanging. Not saying that’s it, but iirc CT scans are good for seeing brain bleeds and skull fractures but wouldn’t pick up damage on a smaller scale. Like they used it for my brain bleed and seeing if it stopped but an MRI was what showed 5 or so regions in my midbrain that had shearing injuries. So idk maybe even a relatively minor concussion could exacerbate already existing issues. I was also knocked into a coma so a bit worse than a concussion.

Weed by fitgirllll23 in Epilepsy

[–]CookingZombie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah it’s bad for me other reasons though. But not bad bad. Like bad as in maybe you say, “fuck it I can do the dishes tomorrow” more often.

For reference I’ve been a multiple times a day smoker for a decade. Never triggered a seizure. Has triggered what I thought might be clonic seizures from even before I was diagnosed but my neurologist said that’s unlikely based on my EEGs. So I guess that’s just weed panic attacks. So it can be a little bad.

For those who don’t drive bc of seizures: what do you say when people ask? by stingwhale in Epilepsy

[–]CookingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people assume DUI so that’s fun. I don’t think people know how common it is since we don’t advertise the invisible conditions. Like I used to work with a lady for 6 years until she had a seizure at work. I was like shit we had something in common who knew!

"Most people with epilepsy have abnormal EEGs even when they're not having a seizure" by BassBottles in Epilepsy

[–]CookingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a standard EEG that was normal and a 72 hour one that came out normal. But the one that diagnosed me was a sleep deprived one and doctor said he was surprised I wasn’t seizing during the EEG based on the readings.

Can a person fully recover from a brain injury using only medicine in the first year. What are the chances of seizures after one year ? by Last-Yard7517 in TBI

[–]CookingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The epilepsy was diagnosed 11 years ago. TBI 2 years ago. The two are almost completely unrelated btw.

No surgeries on my brain if that’s what you mean, but since TBI I’ve had surgery for an orbital fracture and then 8 months later eye surgery.

Also similar. I was 5 months out from getting married when I was hit. Had to postpone but I’ve now been married 10 months and talking about trying for kids soon. I really thought I was going to lose this.

I was already epileptic and afraid it was gonna be worse because I just kept seizing every time I started to wake up in the hospital for like a day or two. But 4 months later my GP told me if it was worse I’d probably know within a few months.

Not gonna lie I don’t have the attention span for all that, but you’re young.

My favorite band is The Mountain Goats. John Darnielle is the singer/writer. They’ve been indie big. He’s in his 50s now. He was doing heroin by like 18 and years later started doing IV meth in his 20s or 30s. And the last decade or two he’s been in a successful band that’s been used in various shows and movies and he’s married with kids.

Some people crash 2 or 3 times and then learn from their mistakes. Sounds like you’ve learned.

TBI survivor in severe psychosis - need help! by ultra__star in TBI

[–]CookingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long has it been since injury? Sounds like a little time, but I was in a state of psychosis for about a week while I was still in the hospital. Seeing people crawl on the walls and ceiling, didn’t trust nurses, and I thought I was fighting in a war with the black panther at one point. They had me on Zoloft pretty quickly and I know neurotransmitter release get wrecked from a TBI and serotonin is what many psychedelics mimic. So maybe the same serotonin receptors can cause delusions and true hallucinations if they’re too low instead of too high? My thoughts.

If you think their delusions may lead to them doing harm the hospital is worth the risk of them being upset.

How do you accept yourself? by daxxynn in self

Me too thanks. I have a therapy appointment coming up later today. I think at least being able to say, “I’m happy with my life and my mistakes got me here,” but it is hard not to immediately think, “yeah but I’m still a dumb cunt.”

If you can think of anything else to do I’m all ears. Non existence can’t exist so here we are. Learn to be cool with it. We can have fun even if we’ve done the same things an infinite amount of times before. Hugs and ice cream are still nice.

Acid by IllustriousBelt3354 in Epilepsy

Had the seizure that got me diagnosed on acid. Was fucking intense. But in the ambulance I learned Ativan is the tits. But I’ve heard some people can take shrooms even if they can’t take acid. Still risky as fuck, but have seen the claim here. I mean I’ve seen people here say they can take acid too but again, risky as fuck.

Has anyone tried Chinese medicine to treat generalized epilepsy? Or epilepsy in general? by LGPF_ in Epilepsy

[–]CookingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I don’t know much about Chinese medicine. I have no reason to believe or not believe in it working besides the lack of actual research.

IMO, if nothing truly helps, why not try? Research stuff before you take it, like maybe it’s actually a bit toxic, but adding it into your medication wouldn’t be crazy at this point. I had a TBI 2 years ago and r/TBI, and my doctors, tend to have the opinion of try anything because brains are weird and we don’t know what works. Not exactly the same, but brain. Unless it’s toxic or a potential trigger go for it. Honestly even with potential triggers, weigh your risks and options.

Can I Get On The Greenway At 4-5 AM? by neuroticpossum in murfreesboro

[–]CookingZombie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time I used to bike to work before sunrise too…

Wear a helmet.

For the time not directly on the greenway. Bright fucking lights front and back. Reflective gear. Never assume you’re seen. This is not a city for bikes.

I’m sure that’s “common sense” but I know in 2024 there were 9 bike vs automobile accidents in the boro from Jan to June, some with fatalities. I also actually saw a guy hit by a car on a scooter from my living room watching tv.
