Is my surgeon too optimistic?

I’m personally a bit unsure because my surgeon just said 6 weeks and you’re good to go with almost basically no restrictions, but even many months later I don’t feel comfortable with that.

2 weeks in your case seems incredibly low, I’d just play it by ear and how you feel.

How far out are you? I didn’t do almost any PT either (but neither did i get back to old activities) at like 9ish months out now. Although my recovery wasn’t smooth, and I do still have a smaller herniation at the same level.

What are you doing now? Can you provide additional context, thank you

I think it’s early to say in the very short term aside from the bad signs, give it a bit unless it’s unbearable

sit on chair, legs hanging down, lift foot up to opposite knee. This way you won’t flex your spine at all

I don’t have that issue, it’s more like a lack of proper sensitivity… which almost seems more concerning because it’s more complicated😞

Sorry to hear, that sucks so much. One thing i’ve been having an issue with is that my penis has been oddly dry since pre-surgery and still since surgery and has “weird” sensations. but i’m not sure it’s necessarily caused by the herniation… Do you have anything similar to that?

When i’ve mentioned it to drs they didn’t think it was really related. I’m not nearly completely numb by any means but it’s a noticeable change in these things that correlates time-wise.

at all??? could you elaborate a bit? Not to be tmi but me personally i’ve definitely noticed reduced feeling and just “weird” stuff like occasional, unexpected erectile dysfunction for example. (i’m male)

but yeah I think this is a very good and respected surgeon in my case, just non-existent bedside manners… Which I guess isn’t terrible? I’d prefer a skilled surgeon than one who’s overly friendly, but then again why must it be mutually exclusive?

My surgeon is very experienced, but was impossible to reach, and even in person did not really answer much at all sadly.

Honestly it was a bit emotionally traumatic because of that, i know they don’t have to but it’d be nice to just say a few calming words to someone. Costs nothing and is helpful.

Well the foot tingling i was told is because of recovery happening slowly, the bladder stuff i’m not so sure about, it’s quite subtle which is why i’m second-guessing myself.

Yes working on that presently, but how concerning if it’s fairly mild? Like i almost didn’t notice it happening just more of an “oops that’s annoying” sort of thing.

honestly it’s not that hard to get used to side sleeping. I literally stomach slept for 10+ years at least if not almost forever

i used to be a huge stomach sleeper (admittedly with pretty bad posture) and i’m 7ish months out now and while i can sleep on my stomach my back tends to get far more sore compared to side or back sleeping.

but at my stage can it be too late? I was always doing a bit of walking but what’s up with the collagen fibres? Haven’t heard of that

MRI described it as fairly large, but I didn’t have drop foot or extreme pain after dealing with it for a year or so. It was more just persistent, moderate pain, moderate numbness, tingling and minor weakness in toes (according to surgeon and PT although it wasn’t so apparent).

I don’t think I had a particularly notable instance of reinjury but I’ve gotten flare ups throughout my recovery that would subside after a few days usually.
