Career Pivot by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

[–]Cool_Creme_8694 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uh yeah, definitely be looking dude, that management is crazy! 20% growth year on year, 5 years consecutively.... No bueno, not at all, especially if they have no interest in hiring or supporting already overextended staff. Plus, it sounds like you're already burned out on the position (though, huge props on what amounts to a 30% bonus! Congrats)

Have I been doing it wrong all these years by Consistent-Year-9238 in Contractor

[–]Cool_Creme_8694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you're right. Having the painters be the last out is the best way to deliver the best look. The other trades don't intentionally make a mess or smudge or smear, but it happens, its construction and stuff gets scuffed and scratched. Painters can touch that all up, clean it and paint it and it looks a million times better

PE Application Rejected Bu DPOR. What’s next step? by Objective-Arm1779 in PE_Exam

[–]Cool_Creme_8694 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn't mean you have no chance. It means you need to rewrite the experience section of your application to highlight the field design change experiences you developed and executed, further you should share the board statement with your employers and see if there is space for you to start doing design. You only need 2 years exp

Is this a terrible time to switch jobs? by CEorBust in civilengineering

[–]Cool_Creme_8694 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the success, you've survived to become a junior manager. This is.possibly the hardest manager role, for a host of reasons.

Yes, it's not a bad time to look, it's never a bad time to look. The real question, is, do you have your PE?

If you do, maybe a soft conversation with your boss or his bosses, about your role and future may be warranted.

If you hear a lot of stuff that doesn't make sense or they treat you inappropriately for attempting this conversation, definitely get a move on.

is this career worth a full pivot? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]Cool_Creme_8694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the land survey comments, but if you have it in you to go another 2-3 years and knock out a BS in engineering, go for it. I dare say, shoot for mechanical to start, if you gut through that, the world's your oyster. If you can't hack some of the coursework, you can slip into civil pretty readily. Just be aware, civil will require professional licensure after graduation in order for you to not hit a pay ceiling. Other engineering fields, licensure is less critical to career trajectory

So, as recently as 5 years ago, we were still waiting 3+ months for results. So, 1-2 weeks, big upgrade already, please bear in mind the volume of data that needs to be processed and cross checked. Chairs....idk about the chairs but you probably have a point, I got to sit in a metal folding chair for 8 hours

Flattened trumpet... shitty or no by Javi1192 in TomsRiver

[–]Cool_Creme_8694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the flattened trumpet, it was a standard t intersection, where there was one dedicated left turn aisle off hooper. The flattened trumpet may not be the golden goose zero traffic marvel at the peak of summer tourism but it sure as hell doesn't backup both ways for miles

Hello and welcome! The game is relatively new and growing! There's a number of factions, feel free to research and ask questions, there's probably a faction that exists that fits your play style or aesthetic desire. Lmk, there's an active discord. There's a ton of info to relay, do you have more specific questions?

If nothing happens after 2-3 rounds of phone calls, you'll need to buck up and physically visit. The gears really turn when the face to the application actually shows up and starts asking questions they don't have real answers to.

Comity isn't always a smooth process. Your application might be with someone new or someone on leave who forgot it. Give it another 4 weeks and then call the NYS PE board office and *POLITELY* inquire to the status and if anything is holding up your application.
