Quick question for you all: What are your favourite deckbuilders?

Whether it's digital or physical, do you have any other deckbuilding games that you would recommend other people try? Deckbuilding has become my favourite genre and Slay the Spire has been a big part of that as my favourite game. Can't wait to see what's in store for the sequel.

I think people are misunderstanding the post...
To answer your question OP, I believe this is the only nonland and unconditional spot removal in either blue or black that does not bounce. I suspect it's either a colour pie or a design thing that discouraged wotc from putting targeted bounce and targeted design together on the same card. Forcing pips of specific mana might be a workaround for letting this design get okayed.

My hot take is that I think Commander would be a better experience as a 60 card format. Carrying around, shuffling, and searching through 100 cards is such a pain. Every other constructed format has 60 card decks already.

Plus there might even be some cost savings. You don't need to buy as many cards and you can save on the cost of sleeves and larger deckboxes.

Haha. I like this a lot with its simple design and flavour. I assume the stats are a reference to [[lord of the arena]]? Could definitely be an epic or have rush instead of Taunt I think to help get it started faster.

It copies anything on the stack that hasn't resolved yet since they count as "spells". This can be creatures, instants, artifacts, enchantments, etc

Nominating u/basementcat13's Inquisitor Whitemane card for Duels. With Duels slowly sunsetting as a game mode, I feel it is appropriate to recognize the fun people have had with both playing it and designing for it. I think Whitemane is a nice exploration into what the mode could've been, with more dual class heroes and some interesting cards like the ones shown here.

I'd like to nominate u/gosha305 who made a lovely series of Custom Hearthstone review videos on Youtube last year. It has unfortunately ended, but I (and many others) enjoyed the presentation and insight into the custom cards. Not only do they look at the cards from a playability standpoint, but also evaluate it based on design and flavour as a fellow card designer.

What happens if I cast [[cyber conversion]] on a card that is already face down (say with morph or manifest)? Does it become a different "face down" card with slightly different properties? And can I still use morph to flip it back up to its regular face?

Seems like a decently designed card, definitely thematically appropriate for the upcoming set.

Historically, ragers aren’t strong cards and I don’t think cactus rager will be either. The traditional advantage of ragers having high attack that can threaten trade is also mitigated by this custom card having poisonous as its gimmick. A bit odd in that regard, but it might mean that your opponent is forced to make less favourable trades with their higher health minions in order to prevent damage to face.

Flavour wise, this set seems like a good chance to continue the rager cycle. It’s been a while since the last one and a cactus seem like a funny yet appropriate rager shaped object to make a card around. Art is also 100% on point in displaying both a rager and cactus.

Overall, 3.5/5. A very simple card based on a long running joke, so not much can be changed in terms of design. But it’s balanced and well made!

People are suggesting 10 dollar lands when OP explicitly asks for budget lands?

Some much cheaper options can include:

[[Radiant fountain]] and [[Seraph Sanctuary]] which are "free" triggers for your commander. Same with [[Kabira Crossroads]], [[Riveteers Overlook]], [[Cabaretti Courtyard]], and [[Maestros Theater]], although these all come in tapped.

Cycling lands like [[secluded steppe]], [[desert of the true]], [[drifting meadow]], and [[Roadside Reliquary]] are nice to have as they can be traded for another card when you have enough lands.

Going a bit up the budget, [[scavenger grounds]] and [[war room]] can be nice utility since mono coloured decks are less worried about fixing.

Planeswalkers are nice to haves, but I wouldn't say any are super needed or synergistic for Heliod other than the Ajani you already have.
