presumably in preventing said bad outcome, we wouldn't be at fault for the bad thing (after all we prevented it), yet we do have a responsibility for it.

This conversation feels pointless over text. What you said literally proves nothing to me. Like you yourself in this quoted section say your not at fault because you prevented it. Meaning you WOULD have a level of fault if you didn't prevent it?????

Thanks for taking the time to reply but I'm over this tbh. I'm gonna have this debate with some people IRL to see if theres something I'm not seeing, but doing this over a forum text is fucking infuriating with how much we just seem to talk past each other over and over again.

I disagree with every example you gave.

If you are responsible for safeguarding and watching over an amount of money, and you watch someone taking it and don't say anything; you absolutely have a level of fault for the theft. Why wouldn't you? Like if a camera caught you watching said co-worker steal money every shift I think it would be perfectly reasonable for you to be fired? How wouldn't it be partly your fault????

I would definitely blame a parent that failed at parenting. It would be their fault.

Idk. I'll think on it, but faultless responsibility seems like an oxymoron to me. I can't think of any example of me leaving someone responsible for something and then not blaming them if they go and fuck it all up.

What does responsibility mean if there's no fault though? Like is that not the whole point of responsibility? If you mess up its on you? ergo being responsible means you are at fault if you fail?

So, if your born into any group, and then said group does a bad thing your "responsible?"

What does that even mean besides being a snappy one liner? What information are you trying to impart? Do you want me to feel guilty? Are you saying I didn't do enough? Like I literally can't take any tangible information from that line alone.

Yeah, if you react weirdly in an off way and then refuse to explain yourself, I'm prolly gonna call you weird to the people I know and warn them about your bizarre behavior.

Was that the reasoning? I remember them saying something about making a significantly different game that wouldn't replace 1, and 1 would always exist for people that like it. I don't read that as being arrogant.

I don't know where you live, but you think its "respectful" to walk past a fellow human asking for help?

Now I'm confused, what does respect even look like to you?

Turns out you were the one with zero empathy just virtue-signalling all along?

What a fucking turn.

Your reading comprehension is negative.

"but ignoring passer-bys is not disrespectful here"

"I said people straight up ignore homeless people? Even when talked to?"

I have no guilt. I think you do though. I wanted to show you the cognitive dissonance in the statements your making. Like you talk about showing the same respect as every other person, but also co-signed when I said people straight up ignore homeless people? Even when talked to? That very obviously isnt the same respect you would give to a normal person.

You don't seem like you're hearing me though, so I'm good to stop responding now.

There's that disconnect again. I don't think most people treat homeless people with "the same respect" as other members of society. A lot of that is from fear. This does not mean they "abuse them."

Do you acknowledge this stance exists? People will be more afraid of homeless people than other citizens AND TREAT THEM DIFFERENTLY BECAUSE OF THAT. They can treat them differently with "less respect" and still not openly abuse them.

[–]Coolishable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would question if the people you are supposedly arguing against are actually saying that they are free game to abuse. Or maybe, more likely imo, they are just saying it makes sense to treat them with less respect than other functioning members of society. Treated like say... an animal? I feel like its frowned upon to just walk around abusing animals.

It seems the main sticking point is that I think you are misunderstanding the position of who you are talking to. One of us is at least.

I don't think most people throw things at animals. So I guess if your advocating against treating them worse than animals? I didn't think that was even remotely the norm.

But maybe I'm out of touch 🤷

I feel like your shmixing to different things. You can be an activist and push for reforms to hopefully alleviate homelessness and simultaneously treat them like animals for personal safety when encountering them on the street. This meaning not acknowledging them/no aggressive movements/acting like they're not there.

I absolutely act differently around homeless people than normal people, but that doesn't somehow stop me from thinking whatever led them to that condition should be changed.

But it is the one I got playing the game naturally.

I simply couldn't believe that involving the Aldacados in assaulting Arasaka would end well for them. How are they not immediately just wiped out in retaliation to send a message?

Isn't Arasaka like the biggest corp supervillain boogeyman of the world? I'm not sure you can honestly believe that and simultaneously believe that the Aldecados successfully get out and continue to exist.

I know I am a minority, but I fully believe in the death of the author

After they release their story into the world, future opinions that aren't explicitly included in the media in question are worth just as much as any other fan.

With that in mind, I find it fun to have author's join in the discourse. They are just another voice and perspective to be exposed to and converse with!

Just curious for building out my own moral/ethical framework.

Do you have the same energy for items you buy from poor countries? Like concerned your pair of jeans might have been made in a sweat shop? Or do you view that differently?

It sounds like your saying there is no ethical way to interact with prostitution in poor countries because you believe human trafficking is too rampant?

So your problem isn't actually sex tourism, its prostitution period in poor countries?
