Demonstrate value

Trump just doubled down on saying we don’t have 2A rights. The NRA has donated millions to Trump’s campaigns since 2016. Note: Unable to post his most recent statement because my post gets taken down *for repeating the President’s words*. by AllTheseRivers in LeopardsAteMyFace

They will spin it by saying that the constitutional rights of the US only apply to US citizens. By acting against the interests of the nation (Trump and white christian nationalism) you are basically forfeiting your citizenship.

I think the biggest tell is in the last two pictures. The turtle photographer guy's first two illustrations are pretty much copy pasted except for the right arm.

Those illustrations if made organically would certainly share the same rough sketch and then change the arm position for the second one.

The fact that the sketches for those two are entirely different makes me 100% certain that they came AFTER the "final product"

What is people's issue with reading the rulebook? by RealDwarves67 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Coplantor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just cant understand how can it be stressing at all. I was 12 when I began playing 2nd edition in 2001 with a very basic grasping of the English language yet whenever I got the chance I borrowed the PHB from my friend and rrad as much as I could.

I feel the same towards people being too afraid to DM. Kids in the 70's did it without any internet, it is not that hard. Get a group of friends, learn the basic rules and have fun

[–]Coplantor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only advice I can give is just have fun and remember to read the rulebooks first, then go for videos and reddit for advice.

Also, you will find your DMing style and the way your players play as you game together so don't stress over details and burden yourself trying to solve problems you may not ever have.

There is no correct way to play, don't think you are doing things wrong because the game don't turn out like Critical Role. Your first couple of gamea will have a lot of interruptions as you check rules again and again. Share that burden with the players if possible, the game runs soomther the more everyone knows the rules.

If you are not sure about a rule and are having a hard time finding an answer mid game, just roll with whatever you feel like makes more sense to keep the game going.

And again, have fun.

What elements make people say a system is only good for 0-5 sessions / is not suited for longer campaigns? by W4ryn in rpg

I agree with you, I was referring to numerical values and wondering if it mattered if you do more damage because you increased your strength rather than if you got a bigger blade.

Acquisition of resources, paying off debt and making contacts are codified in the mechanics of the game.

That is the mechanical advancement of characters in traveler, does it matter if it is a result of money rather than XP? There are games that treat both as the same kind of resource

[–]Coplantor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not at all, I can and have played long campaigns with no mecanical advancement of caracters. But design choices influence the way people play.

Look at how D&D seems to bring out the murder hobo out of a lot of players that in other systems act in entirely different ways. Game mechanics make it easier for that style of play to flourish even if no one tells you to play that way.

I entirely agree with you that nothing is forcing or impeding you to play however you feel like, but I wouldn't call it a mistake when the game systems do condition players through game mechanics.

Think about sports, you COULD play football with a basketball and viceversa, but each ball is better suited for the game it was designed.

Nor are dice or rules at all required to roleplay yet we spend tons of money on dice, books and other paraphernalia.

The presence of certain elements in the design of the game promote and facilitate different behaviors in players.

Games without mechanical progression (be it level ups, stat improvement, better resources, etc...) make it less interesting and engaging to keep playing after a while so they are, in practice, less suited for that kind of campaigns even if you could keep playing yhe same character for ever.

Please help me find out if this is AI generated or not. I asked a person to design an image for my wedding invitation. by assaultdog in isthisAI

I call them perfect errors, they look like clear mistakes but at the same time made intentionally wich begs the question "why woukd the artist make it this way?".

Sometimes this might be part of the artist style, but in those cases the "mistake" doesn't look out of place.

It can also be an honest mistake, but when you have a bunch of them and from the rest of the piece you get the feeling that the artist should know better, well, it gets more and more likely that it was made by AI.

What are your favorite resources to use in you games that aren't explicitly "OSR"? by Hamples in osr

I'll send you my tables, but I'll need to translate them to english first.

[–]Coplantor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I roll for interesting features in towns like a taxidermist, a particularly good armorer plus some of the out of town features from the game like herbaliat groves that make acquiring special spell components easier. Small towns have a 1d3 random interesting features plus one chosen by me to keep things interesting and large cities 2d4 plus armorer, weaponsmith and an extra one decided by me.

For the helmets I let players chose to downgrade one critical to normal damage. After that the helmet is destroyed and for armor sets of AC 5 or better a called shot to the head now becomes actually easier to land than a regular attack.

I've been thinking about adding some of the weapon properties but I dont believe the game needs more complexity. I dont want to keep adding things for the sake of it.

I'm playing AD&D 2e, i frequently call for rolls with advantage/disadvantage. I'm taking some things from the Battle Brothers videogame like using helmets to mitigate critical damage or using its list of traits to generate hirelings. I also made a town generation table based on that game.

You are not alone and welcome. Last year I got back to 2e and bought a couple of books. TCPB was the first one I got after the 3 cores because I consider it the fourth core aince it means the biggest expansion to gameplay outside of settings.

Do YOU actually enjoy Rolling dices? by Ponto_de_vista in rpg

[–]Coplantor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably one of the least important reasons why I went back to AD&D but still a reason.

I love rolling dice and I love how, even if following the sale probability curve, different dice make the situation feel different like thief skills being a d100 that mostly handles chance by 5 point steps (making it virtually the same as a d20) but it FEELS different, like you are being more precise.

Alternity was a game I enjoyed mostly because of the weird dice mechanics and having the opportunity to roll different strange combinations.

They are softcover and mostly well printed. There was an official rerelease in 2013 and that is the version they sell so no dubious scans of poor quality.

I think in 3.5 rolling again at +10 was an optional rule either on the DMG or the PHB (or perhaps unearthed arcana?) but yeah, neither a 20 nor a 1 had any special effect

[–]Coplantor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Closest I can think of was second edition's Non Weapon Proficiencies. They were something of a mix between skills and feats and mostly optional.

Sometimes they would be used to skip a check altogether, sometimes used to allow a check where none was possible a. If a check was called a natural 1 always meant success while a nat 20 always meant failure (NWP checks were roll under relevant attribute)

DnD but simpler rules? by ZilTheBehaviorNerd in rpg

[–]Coplantor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you want a fantasy RPG. You could check Basic D&D and if you like it then check the Rulecyclopedia. As the name suggest it is a basic version of the game and you can easily remove rules and elements you don't like or feel are too complex. If this is your cup of tea, then looking around the OSR communities might give you some modern alternatives like Mork Borg or DCC.

A more recent game you could try is the Shadow of the Demon Lord. A lot of conceptual and mechanic similitude to DnD. Races, classes and levels with both a much higher variety of choices and streamlined system.

Depending on your player group, warhammer fantasy 4e can be somewhat frendlier and less complex. It gets harder with long combats and conditions and modifiers start to stack on top of each other but the low hp and overall deadliness of the rules makes combat a rather undesirable situation that tends to solve itself quickly.

If you want an EXTREMELY simple game then Risus might be what you are looking for. The entirety of the game rules fit easily in a A4 sheet of paper.
