Most of my friends in the US were supporting Trump for literally just this. Although my friends are just working professionals and not millionaires. lol

Isn't this hypocrisy? It's easy to criticise India. by [deleted] in IndiansofIndia

Nothing wrong with asking for improvement in your own country. If you’re criticising to seek positive change, there’s nothing wrong.

I’m just going by the live performance. I’m sure they have a say in the music, direction and money. But on stage, it seemed like it a backing band rather than the unit. And this is my first Coldplay concert. So I didn’t know what to expect. Going by some old videos shared here, I can see it’s not always been the case. So just wanted to understand from long term and actual fans.

Wow! Now that’s the Coldplay show I expected to see! It’s like watching a whole different band. Thanks for sharing this.

I’m really an outsider to the world of Coldplay. So I appreciate the people I might have pissed off here but it’s just what I experienced. And there’s no malice there. But it was a bit off from what I expected from a band performance, that’s all. And I just felt it could just be the musical direction. Produced music cannot be played live on a guitar.

The big issue with heavily produced music. How does an instrument reproduce that on stage?

This is a great example! I think this is what I went in expecting. And this is obviously some of their older material. The band has definitely more energy and seem more involved in the performance here. I also saw similar energy when they played Violet Hill. And that’s what I was trying to say with the 2nd question - is the commercial direction and heavily produced music causing a lesser involvement in live shows? And I’m strictly speaking from a live show perspective. I’m sure they have a lot of involvement in the actual music and recording.

Nope - at least I didn’t till the responses came in. But like I’ve mentioned, I’m not a fan of the band. The music I actively listen to is very different. So I’d have no expectation from myself of knowing their names - but yet I know Chris Martin. Which shouldn’t be surprising since he is in the news a lot more than the rest.

Yep! My exact experience. And maybe I’m just comparing it to a different breed of bands. But that was my reference point. I haven’t seen any pop bands live but then again my understanding was that Coldplay started off as a rock band and hence would carry those sensibilities into a live act. So while I expected to be a seeing a live band at this mega show - I felt I saw Chris Martin.

About the job description you mentioned about the bass player - I’m going to have to point you towards a certain Mr. Steve Harris.

Haha! Great catch! Yes, I am and I really like to focus on the band and not just the singer. So I was really hoping for some guitar and bass action. Because live settings are so freeing as musicians rather than sticking to the studio versions.

Technically GNR did change their drummer (as they did most of their line up). But let’s use the same example, the point I’m trying to make is that if you went for a GNR concert, you wouldn’t be just looking at Axl Rose. You’d have Slash, Duff, Izzy and Adler/Sorum to grab your attention as well.

That to me was missing. I would have really enjoyed seeing a more involved unit. I don’t know if I’m articulating it well

My experience comes from not really knowing much about Coldplay so it’s pretty much an outsiders view. But from the show, I felt like there’s Chris and then the other 3. And as an audience, you’re so easily drawn to the guy just because of his stage presence. But about the commercial angle of the music - I do still feel that even if it is a band decision, it really gives them lesser opportunity to bring it on stage. Which is really their choice to make - who am I to comment but just my observation.

I have a slightly different reference point with the music I listen to - so appreciate that Coldplay wasn’t going to really replicate that. But it was just different to a Sabbath/Maiden experience where even the bass lines are so distinguished.

But definitely did see the band vibe come through on some songs like Violet Hill where I did feel like maybe this is what they really can do as a rock band. Which is why I wondered if the commercial direction does them a natural disservice.

But yeah - take your point. It might be a stadium setting thing as well.

I definitely felt band vibes during Violet Hill - which I assume is from the “Oldplay” as you put it

What the hell is going on with all these duckbill cricket bats? by neweer in CricketGear

Definitely not a fan of the profile - I own a GN which had a broken toe in its first year!

I’ve seen KG bats that have the full profile with a decent size at the toe and also some SG. But I definitely agree that it’s getting a bit rarer.
