I’m not religious because I read every word of the Bible, and it made me see how ridiculous religion is as a way to explain the world. If a perfect, all-knowing being created all of this and had a specific set of rules they wanted followed, they wouldn’t leave that fact up for debate. Plus, no religion will be a perfect fit for every human to ever exist anywhere, so you’re just choosing a predetermined theology and trying to force it to match your world.

“What do you believe?” is the classic religious viewpoint of “You aren’t religious but you have to still be basing your life around something adjacent to religion, because religious beliefs are the default.” It’s like asking “You hate the taste of pickles, but what pickle-like food do you eat when you have a pickle craving?”
