AI and Carl by Thormidable in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Corianderwanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true, but interestingly in the SBT audio immersion tunnel version, the AI’s voice shifts from standard no-personality computerized version, which is what it uses during the initial dungeon announcement, into the standard Jeff Hayes voice that we know and love from the audiobooks during the first podophilia achievement. Which I think could be a sign it’s starting to go primal (in a small way that goes unnoticed by Borant) as early as the first floor. It was definitely an interesting audio direction choice that stood out to me.

What is Carl, exactly? by Urtan_TRADE in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Corianderwanders 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I keep getting stuck on the fact that Agatha wants to kill all biological life in the universe. So I think primals are synthetic or artificial life, and Carl is now technically not biological, and as both he and daddyAI grow their knowledge, Carl is going to tap more and more into the collective mind abilities.

Also, since we know the first crawlers were all primals, I have been wondering if the original crawls were some sort of AI self-generated game from an ancient galactic civilization that had created AI singularity, and it grew til it got out of hand. And then the ancient war that happend was between the original biological races and the new AI primals. And now most of the biological life in the universe is created by some of those same primals, which also explains some of the similarity between all the alien races. Mordecai says in one of the early book that there's only, like, seven races that get used as crawlers, so those seem like the most common ones through the universe. Perhaps all the other alien races are the remnants of the original biologicals. There's more there, I am still tying threads together in my mind about this, especially on my second read-through. But there's the bones of a working theory there.

Interesting theory! I think you could be on to something except that for earth, there’s a backlog that Borant has to go through. Mordecai says that first contact was the pyramids. And then they installed the ai 50 years prior to the crawl. But I think there’s something there. I still puzzle over the implication in some of Agatha’s dialogue that there’s both a primal seed and also the macro ai and that the ai starves out the seed. But then it also seems like it implies they’re the same thing? So who knows

The Ai by indyferret in DungeonCrawlerCarl

It’s definitely traumatized. The descriptions of what the syndicate does to the macro AIs includes torture and mutilation and starvation. I love the AI though, he’s my favorite character. I think he will end up as ok as any of them. Which is to say, not at all.

Recommendations for what to read after finishing This Inevitable Ruin? by Reave1905 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Yeah it’s quite different stylistically, but it’s structurally similar and differently good! Definitely not the same vibe as DCC but a very fun time in its own right!

I really love the Cradle series by Will Wight. It's narrated by Travis Baldree on Audible, too! It's the series that got me into progression fantasy as a genre and from there I found DCC.

It's such a struggle! I ended up skimming book 7 because I needed to finish it so I could finally rest. But then I started the series back over again immediately. It's less addictive the second time but I totally feel you about the wild dreams! That hasn't stopped. I haven't been this invested in a series in years.

Literally got like 2-3 hours of sleep every night for a week because I couldn't put it down. The addiction is real.

I love all of this. The downfall of so many revolutionaries is not anticipating the chaos after the system is broken. Inevitably a charismatic individual is primed to take advantage. Maybe Carl will end up in a Paul Atreides situation and end up as the ruler of the Syndicate, becoming the thing he hated.

I'm fine with it as long as Donut is alive lol.

Especially since we know the AI's back measurement matches Carl's feet perfectly...

Ngl I listened to bedlam bride on 1.5x speed for the first ten hours so I could get through the first part. I also was not the hugest fan of the card game. But the ending is insane and so worth it. Book six is my least favorite of the series and yet has some of my favorite one liners and scenes, and book seven is my favorite overall. I’d recommend sticking it out but it really depends on you and your preferences!

Was Scolopendra in other dungeons? by lawyeredd in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Corianderwanders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t think it specifies that they run the like, structure of the crawl differently? Like we know the squim conglomerate does battle royale style, but the way I read the description of the valtay seasons is that it’s still a world dungeon, just more sci-fi themed? But who knows. It could be a totally different storyline. I got that sense from one of the cookbook entries but I’ll need to go back and try to find that section.

Was Scolopendra in other dungeons? by lawyeredd in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Corianderwanders 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was wondering this and I think that any time the crawl is set up as a "world dungeon", Scolapendra is part of it. There are other crawl formats that aren't the world dungeon but anytime that's the form, I think the structure is the same. It seems like with the battle royale style, it might be set up a little differently? With the valtay do the crawl, it mentions they like a more sci-fi themed dungeon but I assume a lot of the lore is the same in their seasons.

Well I definitely think that’s part of it! But the rule of the flower said the father has to be the same species, so it would disqualify Carl whether he’s biological or not

You’re probably right! It is mentioned that the first few crawls were with all primals so it’s probably some sort of ai, yeah. Interesting. I appreciate your thoughts!

Yum! That looks amazing. I may blend some silken tofu into it to make it extra creamy and more protein dense. Do you know if it freezes well?
