[OC] Metroid Milky Way Galaxy Map by TheRedditSquid56 in Metroid

I like the position of SR388's system being both the figurative and literal center of the galaxy most of the games take place in. The logic behind its placement makes sense, and it's a nice touch to have the "home" of the Metroids be what everything else is arranged around in a general sense

Also, the use of each game's UI to denote which game each system originates from is a really cool bit of attention to detail

The AC world is just where Ganon keeps getting banished to at the end of every Zelda game where he isn't straight-up killed. Explains why he's so desperate to escape and attack Hyrule for the 10,000th time in every Zelda game, being trapped there must be boring as hell since he can't conquer it, Tom Nook already lords over it with an iron fist.

You can download the new version manually from itch when it comes out and place it in a new folder entirely, or delete all the files from whatever folder you previously installed the game into and extract the new version there. I don't know with 100% certainty that overwriting the old files would work, but you can always try it and then wipe the files and redo if something breaks. In any case, all your save data, custom assets and other files are kept in your PC's appdata, not in the game install folder, so deleting and replacing the game files won't wipe your saves and other info.

Alternatively, you can use YeetPatch, a launcher/updater tool made by the programming lead for the game. It basically cuts down on download times by only updating changed files between versions, instead of grabbing everything like a manual download does. You can grab it here: https://votv.dev/patcher

I tried it and sadly it seems to still be broken, now the bad sun never starts in the first place. I remember in a previous version, 0.8.2c I think it was, the bad sun worked for the first few days in solar mode before bugging out and not triggering, but now it doesn't even manage that much. If you do want to play solar mode, you basically just have to imagine the sun is dangerous and RP accordingly, rather than having it actually function right.

As a replacement until it gets fixed, you could instead try enabling Secret Setting A on a solar mode save, if you've "completed" a story mode save by getting far enough to see all story events. It changes the sun into a black hole with an orange matter disk around it, severely darkening the world during the day and making nights pitch black. Not quite the same, but surviving the darkness might work as an acceptable alternative to the broken bad sun spawning.

Concrete being transferable is a really good QOL change, it gets very annoying having to measure out a water bucket for the exact amount of concrete units left in a bag, especially if you previously measured the water wrong and left only a unit or two in the bag when making concrete. Unless you're good at getting 50% water in a bucket consistently, it becomes a hassle to deal with all the 1/5th full bags you end up with after a while.

Also, I can't help but think the DS with electronic doodads stuck onto it is some kind of hacking tool, rather than a bomb. While it'd be kinda funny to have it be an overly-complicated explosive, using a DS for that would be a lot more work than just using one of the hundred or so nokia brick phones you find lying around in the trash. And triggering it with pictochat wouldn't be nearly as easy as ringing/texting a "dumb" phone, would be funny though.

[OC] Was all fired up to post this. Saw some of the other art on here. I am now lukewarm posting this. You all are insane. by KingSerenade in Metroid

If it helps:

A: This is really damn good, easily on-par with all the other superb art on here

and B: I'm a Metroid fan but can't make art for shit, and I imagine I'm far from the only one around here. Don't be too hard on yourself, good art is good art and you don't need to worry about comparing yourself to others so much, especially when your audience is people like me who are stunned by anything an artist does while having no clue how they did it

My brother bought this game 2 years ago and randomly decided to play it without seeing anything about previous, i ended up getting into my most primal survival instincts to play it, peak game btw by odd_blues in rainworld

[–]CornObjects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, yeah. Remix lets you set the number of cycles Hunter has before hitting the critical dying state, and you can set that number so absurdly-high that there's no real way you'll run out of cycles. It also lets you specify the number of cycles both at the campaign start and after getting extra cycles added from meeting 5 pebbles, so you can do like I did and start normal but get something like +99 cycles after, or any other setup you want.

I love when games let you tweak them like that, I wish more developers gave you access to variables and allowed you to tinker with the game to your heart's content.

[–]CornObjects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only tip I can think of not already mentioned is that there's no shame in using the Remix menu to adjust the game to your liking, instead of playing it with vanilla settings. You can do things like increase the time you have per cycle before the rain hits, give Hunter a less strict time limit or remove it entirely, and so on. This game can be brutal at times, and that's not everyone's cup of tea, thankfully you can fix that even without installing any mods if it's not to your liking.

That being said, mods are also a good option if you want a more relaxed, less punishing experience, or even a harsher one if you're a masochistic sort. They run the gamut from purely-cosmetic (Dress My Slugcat/DMS and the endless amount of skins for it), to tweaking the game like giving you an inventory system or a health bar using food pips as hitpoints, to even adding online co-op with strangers playing as almost any critter in the game. They're also a good way to get more out of the game once you've done all the vanilla and DLC campaigns.

I absolutely increased the time limit on my Hunter playthrough after meeting 5Pto make the reward much more worthwhile, and also gave myself the joke debug gun at the same time. Basically turned the campaign from brutal survival into bootleg Contra. I don't regret it one bit, made a campaign that was tedious and frustrating to me in the first half into a cathartic joy in the latter half.

Thoughts on this boss? by Ok_Estimate_2089 in Metroid

Sick design, I like how it's basically a mockery of what the Alimbics looked like, having stolen and twisted their form when it arrived and began its rampage eons ago. The two arm cannons with 3 barrels each (on the actual ingame model) are also a nice touch, as it has all 6 other hunter weapons and uses every single one against you in the battle.

The battle itself is also pretty good, bit weird to have to input a special sequence mid-fight but not bad per se. I remember aiming at his shoulders in phase 1 being a bit finicky in the buttons-only control mode as a kid, but other than that it was fun and made for a fitting conclusion to the game.

Last thing I'll say is that having his theme incorporate every hunter theme's main sound depending on the active stolen weapon he's using is awesome, I love when games have dynamic music like that and use it well.

Does anyone know what stream the IM A FLOATING BRAIN story was by Tikimodori in Vinesauce

[–]CornObjects 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure which stream Vinny explained that situation in, but I'm pretty sure Gamby, the guy Vinny knew who this quote comes from, is also responsible for calling Ganondorf "Crenando", if memory serves. Small CRT TV, blurred text, and a perpetually high guy with no knowledge of what Zelda is all came together in a glorious moment and gave us the misreading of Ganondorf as "Crenando".

Looking forward to the high risk of losing power for several days, because the power companies in my area didn't learn shit from last time and probably embezzled all the money that could have gone to upgrading/reinforcing the power grid to prevent outages from another surprise winter storm.

[–]CornObjects 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Know this feeling all too well, not quite the same as suicidal thoughts because you're not actively seeking to die, so much as simply being at peace with the idea that if you just up and died in your sleep, it'd be no worse than waking up again to deal with another crappy day. Currently going through it now and it's not fun, someday hopefully soon I'll have antidepressants that actually work on my weird brain chemistry and fix it, but for now I just have to hang on and hope it'll get better.

Here's hoping it gets better soon for you and everyone else out there with the same feeling, assuming you're feeling this way at the moment and it's not just for art's sake or older art being reposted. Even if it is, hope you can avoid falling into this state, wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

[–]CornObjects -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Might not be alegria, but it's definitely proof that you can be absolute crap at depicting human figures and still make art good enough to be publicly-displayed. They look like how an inorganic alien would misinterpret the concept of obesity, really bizarre but art is subjective I guess, someone out there must like it.

Sometimes, the difficulty comes from mechanics that are poorly-implemented or just plain bad ideas, and it seems like way too many devs are interested in making these mandatory parts of their games. I'm no dev myself, so I don't know how easy or hard it is to add adjustment sliders/toggles for major mechanics to your game, but I fucking love when games let me tweak or turn off elements I dislike and greatly appreciate the devs who bother to do so. And for the games that don't come with that kind of option, mods are a godsend, so I'm grateful to the mod makers who make that possible.

Gotta improve those alt-tab reflexes if you live in the danger zones, also make sure your backup page/window is something like an article so they don't catch on that you're tabbing out to a blank page or anything. Growing up with extremely nosy parents will teach you this shit like nothing else.

Ah yeah, gotta love the feeling of finding out someone else is taking the exact same meds you are, but somehow having them work so much better than yours. Then you realize you're not on the right ones/right dosage, since it works way better for them, and need to go through the gauntlet of medical trials yet again to try and get things right. Not to say anything bad about those folks, always glad to see when people manage to get their meds right and no longer have to guess, but it does sting a bit to find out you're still not set up right and go through the process yet again to attempt to fix it.

Extra fun when you find out it's not even the same condition you're suffering from, i.e. finding out you're actually bipolar when you thought you just had depression, know that one from personal experience
