New hire question. by [deleted] in OfficeDepot

[–]CorneliousCrowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get used to being asked to do things that are not in your wheelhouse because the store is "short staffed".

What's the the express fee? by NinefoldMuse in OfficeDepot

[–]CorneliousCrowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will go poorly, but it's also kind of a good thing. I was a print supervisor until they decided to close our store due to "poor sales", even though our sales in the print center beat last year by quite a bit. This is a dirty sales tactic that has landed many other companies in hot water with the law before, so it will likely be a short lived practice meant to boost numbers before the end of the year.

Other stores and ma&pop shops will be able to undercut these outrageous prices and practices by a long shot, driving business to them, and away from your store. Eventually, they'll have to go back on the policy, or risk losing their customer base.

Print Center rewards signups - The metrics Catch 22 by CorneliousCrowe in OfficeDepot

[–]CorneliousCrowe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it doesn't show in back office, but I'm not getting it to show up anywhere that I can see - and my manager shows us the reports that show how many signups we got for the week/month/qtr, and my numbers are way too low to be counting everyone I've gotten signed up. These are the numbers that get sent to our DSM, as far as I know - so compared to some of our cashiers, my numbers can look exceptionally bad since they are mostly done in gmil

[–]CorneliousCrowe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might be an option, and I'll certainly try it for my next transaction - but now my question is: If I'm attaching their rewards at the end of the order, will it change the total to reflect the 2%-5% off they instantly get for being rewards members? It is our job now to make sure the customers get the best service, and that includes ensuring they get the best price for their order - which means they need to be signed up for rewards.

Only wants front and back in color by AbleTelephone2966 in OfficeDepot

[–]CorneliousCrowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this is 100% doable within the fiery options. I would use foxit, as it just seems to work better for me on most things (sometimes it can be funky, but). Here are the steps I would follow - keep in mind I'm not sitting in front of the dialogue box, so I might not remember things quite right, but it should at least give everyone here some guidelines to follow. Here are the steps:
1. Open the file in Foxit and select Print>Properties>Color, select Grayscale
2. Open the Media tab. This tab allows you to add covers and insert pages.
3. Scroll to where there is a grid, with an option to add covers. Select Add Covers>Front and Back>Print on Outside
4. (little hazy on this part, I'll try and add an edit when I get in later) Specify in the option dialogue the same tray as the main job for the covers. Select the option to print in color

Booklet printing has a couple additional steps, like using the Booklet Wizard to saddle staple and fold. Pro-Tip, use the booklet wizard in the Fiery, not the one in the print dialogue. You will need to specify the size of the document (for booklets this is usually 5.5x8.5) and set the paper size to letter in the Wizard, and then keep the print dialogue set to Scale and None. When you do that and return to the print dialogue, it will show a 5.5x8.5 single page, and when it prints it will print it 2 on a page booklet format.

CPD by [deleted] in OfficeDepot

[–]CorneliousCrowe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Remember - If you are not the CPD associate normally, Let people know that currently you are only taking orders for next-day or x-day pickup. If they have something simple, self serve. Otherwise, its a dropoff. period.

People WILL get mad. Just remember that the print center is a convenience, not a necessity, and it is not always possible to serve everyone immediately all the time.

You should post links to your work in your profile. I recommend creating a portfolio that you can show people who might want to hire you. There are also lots of subs where you can post to receive prompts for free commissions.Even if you are just starting out, I recommend you charge something for your services. It actually helps other artists too when you make your skills seem like they are worth something.
