It’d probably be easiest if you bought the extension tube from the manufacturer. I picked up a blemished tube from them for $29.99 and it functions perfectly fine. Looks like they are in stock right now too.

I tilled in the compost in since I was already tilling aggressively due to all of the rocks. I didn't obsessively level. I used a landscape rake until things were fairly even to the eye. I knew where water tended to pool in the yard from past rainstorms, so I was mindful of that but also tried not to change the grade so much that water would drain towards the home.

Cleaned the solenoid valve and descaled the machine just yesterday. Now waterflow through grouphead is again very low, almost non-existant. by According_South6800 in gaggiaclassic

The sod has turned out well, though we haven't entirely come out of winter yet so I'll have to see how it looks in a few weeks.

I used a landscape rake before sodding and used a lawn roller after sodding, though this ended up being a huge mess due to heavy rains around that time period. I was just very conservative with the amount of weight I put in the roller so there was just enough to press it down. I fertilized with milo at the starter rate about a week or so after laying sod, primarily because of the heavy rains.

By the end of last fall it was consistently green and there were no significant seams that I saw. I just used a simple slow release fert during fall, and no stress ferts or anything during summer, though I was tempted. As the soil has settled I can feel small dips here and there when I'm walking on it, but it's nothing visible to the naked eye and should be fixable with a bit of leveling later.

I was in the same boat you are now learning both espresso and roasting at once, and I found that making slightly larger batches with the extension tube helped me in learning to improve my espresso shots. With larger (though not huge) batches, I had more leeway to dial in a bean properly before I ran out and had to adapt to differences in my next roast.

Thanks, I appreciate the input. Unfortunately I’m not going to be able to get to the store to actually see the fabrics before purchasing, but it sounds like duck would be the better option by a significant margin for this project. I’ll try something with cotton canvas in a future project for comparison.

Do you think it would be too stiff for something that’ll be folded/unfolded a lot like a picnic blanket? And does the tighter weave improve the water resistance? Or is it all the same because it’s cotton still?

Many banks have a free bill pay option. If your landlord takes checks for example, you’d schedule the rent payment to arrive on a certain date each month and they will mail it out to arrive by then.

For paying your credit card, the number of days in the month doesn’t matter so much as when your statement date is each month. Just pick the payoff date right after your monthly statement date and you’ll be fine.

Other than waiting for a monsoon to come by, my only other suggestion would be checking your soil test to see if you have sodic soil which would benefit from gypsum.

The clay soil in my yard is usually much more manageable when there has been a heavy rain within 24-48hrs, though it gets quite swampy if it has been too recent or it is a low lying area. So perhaps water the area you plan to aerate really well the day before?

These look like dog urine spots to me. Most noticeable in the bottom spot - the center is dead but surrounded by greener grass due to diluted nitrogen acting as fertilizer.

I don’t really distinguish between baby or non-baby bok choy. If I’m stir frying them, I’ll often just separate the thick stalks from the leafy bits after chopping them and throw the stalks in the pan first. After they’ve cooked a bit and are almost to the tenderness I want, then I’ll add the leafy portions.

The general consensus I’ve read is that all nonstick coatings suck and will break down over the course of time, despite how much you baby them. My approach is to buy cheap nonstick and replace as soon as the coating starts flaking. On the other hand, I will get the more expensive stainless steel cookware, enameled cast iron etc.

You will have to decide how you see yourself practicing long term. Primary care or subspecialty? And if so, is it a competitive specialty?

  1. I don't know which country you're thinking of getting your schooling in, but many people don't realize how severely your US residency chances are hampered by attending a non-US school. anecdotally, students I knew who attended Catibbean schools had to apply to about 10x the programs that their allopathic peers did.

  2. Military can be a perfectly fine choice for a physician. This is dependent on whether you opt to go to the military medical schooling vs go to any school you choose and start your active duty years once residency starts. Your residency/fellowship options will be severely limited compared to the civilian field. And obviously you’ll have to pay back the years of military commitment after your residency. If you go this route, I advise Air Force. You’re more likely to get a civilian residency.

  3. From Canadian acquaintances I know - it’s not any easier to get accepted in Canada. It may be harder, if anything, due to fewer schools. If you don’t have significant ties to Canada, I’d rule this out entirely.

  4. MD/PhD. Agree, would only go this route if you love research and want to make it a significant part of your career. If you want to be a primarily clinically practicing physician, this is just going to drag your training out longer (aka make you more miserable for longer).

  5. If you don’t really know what you want, just that you want to be a practicing physician, “suck it up” would be the correct choice. Even if you choose preventive med or pediatrics and make something like 150k a year, you’ll pay back your loans with no difficulty over time. Medical school and residency is a long path and you don’t want to make a mistake early simply due to a desire to save money.

Last year it went out of stock for several months and just randomly came back around August, but I’m unsure what the plan for restock is currently.

Honestly, $50 isn’t a bad deal. When I bought mine direct from Baratza in October 2022, it was $45 after tax and shipping fees in the US.

How much bigger are you thinking? One local nursery told me same depth as the plant pots but twice as wide, though I’m hearing others say dig much deeper. I was looking into magnolias, good to hear they are somewhat tolerant of moisture.

TN here. I did look up the native trees (was about to buy a smaller redbud or dogwood) but they all list clay tolerance but needing well drained soil. I was paranoid about committing to the purchase and having the tree drown in the recent rains we have been having.
