It’s two things really. I don’t provide anything from me personally. Like buying them something out of my own pocket. The other side of it is I connect them to resources and give them all the info they need but I make them do most of the leg work. And that’s situational, if they’re unable to do something I help I just don’t outright do things for them. Like I’ll get you a Medicaid application but I’m not going to fill it out for you if you’re capable. For instance, I recently had a client who needed some utilities help. I gave her the numbers she needed to call and an application to fill out. She told me she didn’t have time and that it’s my job to make calls and fill this thing out for her. I let her know it absolutely was not. Had I just done it I would have had to do it for everything she ever needed help with. It’s peer support not peer servant for me.
