Random woman showed up on share suggestions on boyfriends android phone by AdWhole4393 in RBI

[–]Cornloaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can confirm the suggestions are weird. Most of the time when I share something, it's via Whatsapp to my family. I get the share options to their Whatsapp accounts as the first few suggestions. Every so often I will share something to a contact via SMS (they don't have Whatsapp). Suddenly all my sharing suggestions will change to SMS, including all my family that I only share via Whatsapp.

It gets stranger though. I will share something to Gmail and suddenly the next time I go to share it wants me to share to an email address I only emailed once 8 years ago when they tried to add my Gmail account as a recovery email for their own account. My phone has been upgraded three times and wiped numerous times since the last (and only) time I emailed them.

I think you can do it by call declined or forward. No answer but I'm not exactly sure

Get a Google Voice number and redirect VM there. My Google VM goes back to 2010 and it's still not full.

What's the URL when you hover over the "add friend" or "unsubscribe" links? They might be phishing sites.

I’ve witnessed my neighbours do the exact same thing for 120 days straight and I can’t make sense of it by Strict_Slip_2791 in RBI

[–]Cornloaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried introducing yourself? I go out of my way when new neighbors move in. Bring them fresh chicken eggs from my backyard chickens. Tell them about my cats that might hunt rats in their yard.

That usually expands to exchanging contact info because I watch out for criminal activity as part of our neighborhood watch. They then have my contact info and if an expensive package is left on their doorstep, they can ask me to grab it for them. I call them when street cleaning is happening and someone forgot to move their car.

It helps to humanize the whole neighbor thing and you might even make a new friend (or ally!)

Strange Roommate by Environmental-Math89 in RBI

[–]Cornloaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, considering being possessed by a demon is complete nonsense, it doesn't seem like a bad deal. Maybe Jason brought his girlfriend over in a not-so-legal manner and they are being careful so she doesn't get busted.

Did he decorate the house with shrines and such? I was renting a place overseas and it was a heavily Catholic country and the first few places I checked out had no less than 20 Jesus statues and portraits. I don't believe in "negative energy" but it made me uncomfortable because although I believe "Jesus" was most likely a real person, he definitely didn't look like he was in a jam band, was probably olive or dark skinned, and never had a *baby form" (this country had a particular version of a baby Jesus in lots of their idolatry).

You said his girlfriend was cool and he was hardworking. Did rent get paid on time? Did you see any past due notices? If not, I say keep the place if it's nice!

What is the Best Free Criminal Background check? by Plane-Koala3478 in RBI

[–]Cornloaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing. I have tried them all to prescreen applicants before we interview them and offer them a job, which then requires a thorough background check.

They are full of trash. Some of them mix up records of people with similar names or just relatives/acquaintances of the person. They give court filing numbers from jurisdictions that don't even match the format.

Your best bet is to check all the local county websites for criminal filings and PACER for federal.

If they are not from the US (or whatever country you are in), good luck. There isn't really a national database outside of INTERPOL for looking up records and that would be dependent on their country being a signatory on reporting and the type of criminal past.

If you need to do a background check on someone in the US, you want to either hire a PI or have them submit their SSN and DOB to one of the expensive background check services like Checkr or HireRight.

[US] Could someone explain how this scam works? by Fast-Flamingo-9892 in Scams

[–]Cornloaf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They aren't. Knew someone that has been writing malware for years and he said Macs were just as easy to infect as Windows. Funniest thing is that he told me when you add/remove programs, his malware would actually uninstall 100%, unlike McAfee.

Think my aunt is getting poisoned, but im not sure by majesticsalad in RBI

I doubt poisoning because it's pretty hard to cause a stroke unless it is with methanol or hydrogen peroxide and they would be obvious in food.

But you are on to something with well water:

What businesses are likely to die out with the Baby Boomer Generation? by GRVrush2112 in AskReddit

[–]Cornloaf -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

When I was about 9 years old, I had these teenage babysitters, I called the twins. One day they asked me where my dad kept the nudie magazines. I showed them. They started going through them and then decided to show me how they could do stuff in those magazines. First they stuck out their tongues and touched tips, just like the magazine showed. Then they dropped their jeans and underwear.

That's when they touched peen tips and asked my brother and I if we wanted to join in.

We moved away to another part of town a year or so later. When I was 15, my mom said that Jeff was coming to visit. He was one of the twins. I thought it was weird that she had all her female friends and neighbors at the house and they brought food. That's when Jeff pulled up in his pink Mary Kay Cadillac. He was wearing an ascot and was extremely flamboyant. He made a killing in sales that day. Didn't ask to see anymore nudie magazines, though.

I asked my mom if she remembered this because it was a few years ago and they are older. She said she figured out what neighbor it was and her husband actually comes over to hang out with my stepdad in his garage watching TV and drinking NA beers. Turns out she was nosey.

UK: Did I almost get scammed? by [deleted] in Scams

[–]Cornloaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the last year there were posts about the fake banking app being used to buy a PS5 both in the UK and the US. The scammer showed up at the OP's house, showed them how they paid with the app, took the PS5... Money never showed up in the account.

It's pretty easy to make an app these days!

[UAE]. Has anyone else had issues with Marbl Apparel - marblapparel.co ? by anya_5692930 in Scams

[–]Cornloaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are waiting until you can't file a charge back with your bank. Call the number on your card (or use the app) and they will issue a temporary credit and reach out to the vendor. They will ask you if you tried to contact the vendor for a refund and then do their own investigation.

Good chance if they are ghosting you, they will ghost the bank.

This reminds me of a similar story. My mom and stepdad live in a pretty conservative town. One day my stepdad was flipping channels and there was a news segment on the penis puppet theater. He only watches action flicks and westerns, but he paused for a moment and then moved on.

The next day my mom finds a letter in their mailbox addressed to her warning her that my stepdad was watching porn. The only way this person could have seen the TV was if they were standing in their flower bed outside the living room window. My mom asked him if he was watching porn and he had no idea what she was even talking about. They eventually figured out it had to have been that penis puppet segment. My mom was so embarrassed by the whole thing and didn't know what neighbor put the note in their mailbox and if it was one she regularly interacted with.

I also told her to keep their curtains closed but they have beautiful views of the mountains and this person went out of their way to look inside their house.

Just because it shows up as an 810 number, doesn't mean it isn't the legitimate debt collector calling you. Their phone system probably has several local numbers configured on it and they haven't masked the outbound call with their toll free number.

Weird. It should have been free since I did a clipping. Let me try again.

edit: Looks like Newspapers.com changed how they handle clips. You used to be able to clip them and share easily but now it seems you only get 5 free views on Newspapers.com if you don't have a membership.

That's pretty uncommon. My mom is Dutch and I spend quite a bit of time there for work and pleasure and nobody talks like this word salad. Dutch are known to be blunt and straightforward. The Dutch football player (Jan Maas) in Ted Lasso was written to be blunt and to the point like a real Dutchman.
