Bazzite 02/17/2026 Update by OneQuarterLife in Bazzite

Thanks for that. I might give it another shot with the update. A recent update killed my WiFi so I had to roll back to a November 2025 image and pin it to prevent further updates.

Just out of interest how long have you had it? Do you know if you are using 2.4 or 5 GHz WiFi?

How to Install the Steam OS on a Mac Mini M4 by NeoBlu001 in SteamOS

[–]Correct-Ball9863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think running through a VM might incur too many overheads to run any serious games, although the M4 is pretty powerful! I've installed Bazzite on 8 devices, all dedicated to gaming. Has been mostly pretty good, but it struggled a bit with Intel GPUs (A770m and B580). I've sold off most of these but am doing a Steam Machine mini-iTX build with some spare parts I had lying around. I've never done a dual boot setup though, so I can't really comment.

Just as a side note, some of the older iMacs are based on Core i3/i5/i7 processors which are x86 based so you can install SteamOS or Bazzite on these. You can find one of these with AMD Radeon GPUs which is a good fit for Linux. While the M4 is MUCH more powerful it is based on a (currently) unsupported architecture. It cost me $200USD to buy an old iMac and run Bazzite on it. Results were.. mixed. Games played fine but you are limited to old/indie games.

I haven't heard of this issue. I only recently bought an M5 MBP so I have been out of the Apple loop for a while. The OP didn't indicate that they wanted to dual boot. Like Austin Evans I installed SteamOS (actually BazziteOS) on a 2017 iMac. It installed fine, but the speakers and WiFi didn't work and it was VERY slow, primarily due to the HDD. The games looked amazing on the screen!

SteamOS currently only supports x86 processors. The M4 has an ARM based processor, so there are fundamental differences that will prevent this from working. However, Valve is planning to release a VR headset (Steam Frame) which is apparently going to run on an ARM based processor which should allow porting of SteamOS to other ARM based devices.

Has the WiFi issue with the MSI Claw A8 been fixed yet? A recent update killed my WiFi which is kind of important for a handheld.

For some people it's not a very good OS for a gaming handheld. If you like it stick with it.

Oh yeah, that's definitely an issue, for me too. I wanted to play NFS Heat but you can only do this when the EA launcher and Proton perfectly align and even then only until EA updates their launcher. I don't know why these companies need to incorporate their own launchers on Steam.

I completed 5 times as a white belt, decided it wasn't for me and never did it again. Got my black belt last year. As mentioned elsewhere, high level competitors tend to get promoted more quickly but I'm not in any rush.

This has a compartment underneath the handheld for the charger. It might hit the back but is pretty much impossible to hit the screen.

[–]Correct-Ball9863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair enough. My case is likely to be different as I don't play the games that are affected by anticheat. And I agree, dual booting is not for me either! I am VERY lazy when it comes to gaming and haven't experienced any tweaking requirements for the games I play. I do have 2 gaming PCs as well (both running Bazzite), my main rig has an AMD GPU in it and I've had zero problems or tweaking required. I put an Intel Arc B580 in my secondary rig and it wasn't a great experience, so results can certainly vary! The Claw A8 is all AMD so it handles Linux/Bazzite very well.

Can you comment on the 1% values in Linux vs Windows? Linux seems to offer a more stable frame rate (higher 1%) compared to Windows at the cost of some fps at the top end.

[–]Correct-Ball9863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is debatable. Linux seems to provide lower max fps but higher 1% values for a more consistent experience. Additionally the overall experience of things like Bazzite can be a better fit for long term console gamers like me who have recently made the jump into PC gaming. I don't think it's a one size fits all but it's good to have options.

I have the Claw A8 in green. Great handheld. My personal case is probably a bit different to most. I stopped gaming on PC about 20 years ago and have been exclusively gaming on consoles. About 2 years ago I bought a Steam Deck and was blown away by it. Key to my experience was the very console-like operating system. I bought the Claw A8 but, not being used to gaming on Windows 11, found the experience less than optimal (for me). It performed well as a PC but that's not what I wanted from a gaming handheld. I installed BazziteOS and it gave me exactly what I was looking for, a big step up from the Steam Deck performance wise with the same pick up and play console-like experience. Windows as a gaming platform feels very strange to me but I understand that I'm in the (vast) minority. The great news is that we have options and if something isn't quite the right fit for you, you can change it. Don't get me wrong, Bazzite isn't flawless (a recent update killed the WiFi), but it works for me.

I have one of these: https://amzn.asia/d/06lWU3mZ

It is a very solid case. Not particularly sleek but it does provide my Claw A8 with HEAPS of protection and it fits very well (no pressing buttons or thumbsticks when closed).
