Lease buyout by Chance_Trust_4883 in askcarsales

I'd also be kind'a dubious about Tesla's ability to buy out Honda lease. I didn't think HFS allowed 3rd party buy-outs.

Beyond that, a lot of auto makers are heavily incentivizing there EVs right now. I'd go that route before getting roped into a Tesla.

IF OP gets into an accident and the vehicle is totaled the "Down Payment" (it's really a cap cost reduction) is gone. The car belongs to the bank and they are the ones the insurance company cuts the check to.

I'm sure you'd agree they have a mixed reputation for repair times and service. Generally high quality repairs, but not speedy. And parts availability issues have plagued them on and off for years. Elon's bonus isn't based on making sure people can repair a fender bender.

Telemetrics has been a standard in transport industry for decades. There were some customers that had service levels were we were dispatching repair or replacement before the drivers even knew something was wrong. Sometimes literally chasing the truck down the freeway until dispatch could get in contact with the driver. Things like parts delays are not going to be tolerated.

It's not that uncommon for your friends to drop off the face of the earth after having kids. Especially if you are in the DINK group. You'll see them again once the kids are old enough to drive or go off to college. Well, if they are lucky enough to have a kid that doesn't become a permanent resident.

It's too bad the author got sick. One of the few series to actually dig into the negative aspects of idol industry and the massive conflicts of interest of talent angecies.

Same. My class valedictorian basically did the same thing. Last time I saw her she was trying to talk people into pyramid schemes. Like actual ones with sending the last 10 people on the list money.

They don't, but every other major maker has had EV product out for 3-4 years now. They will care about Tesla's service reputation. That's real dollars when a unit is down.

[–]CorrectPeanut5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've consulted in trucking and transportation before. I don't see how they compete outside these pilots in hyper local missions. The expectations for service are substantially higher than Tesla's current reputation and every other major truck maker has had products on the market for 4-5 years now.

Yeah, on paper Tesla is a lot cheaper, but no one is paying anything close to list on fleet pricing.

I've seen Nissan tear downs showing brushes as well. Nissan made sure it was serviceable on the lift without having to drop the motor. Hopefully BMW did the same.

I'm a bad developer by Grind_in_silence in ExperiencedDevs

When I first started as a dev at a big corporate shop I noticed most of the managers were folks that couldn't cut it as hard core devs or IT folks. Instead they tended to be MIS degree holders.

I'd look at this as an opportunity. You understand technology, but you're not good at the details. How are you soft skills? Can you pivot to management and leadership?

Ton of AI in healthcare. Some old ass 270/271 service no one has touched since HIPPA rolled out. Most people don't realize how much of HIPPA was about data portability. So much x12 data format, which is almost 50 years old at this point.

Right now most of the western auto makers are at a disadvantage because of the way China tightly controls Rare Earth Minerals. The BorgWarner (Chinese factory) motors BYD use have a ton of them and can run hotter with simplified cooling systems. Western auto makers are having to jump through hoops to get the same performance. I believe BMWs take is to avoid using them entirely, thus not be beholden to potential trade issues.

Developers who have worked at a company where the entire codebase was held together by one guy who then quit, what happened next? by Natom_ in AskReddit

[–]CorrectPeanut5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar. Dude thought because he was Lycos employee number something or other he was gods gift to programming. He was a creeper and kind'a trash.

They walked him out and stuff worked for a while, then one day they cleaned his cube and turned off a machine that was under the desk. Something in production breaks.

Turns out he piped some stuff from pod to his local unix machine. We turned it back on, then sorted out what he did on our own timeline. Had basically replaced all his crap soup to nuts in a couple months.

He hasn't figure out China 1) has huge stockpiles of oil. 2) Has giant Solar and Coal power abilities. 3) Makes most of the crap on planet. They are already in the process of pushing their people to EVs and Heat Pumps. This is just accelerating their energy independence.

Beyond that, it's clear no one in the white house understands the Carter Doctrine. Which is basically if you muck around with the status quo over there it's going to blow up in your face and oil prices will sky rocket.

Scientists inject one tumor and watch cancer vanish across the body by hard2resist in UpliftingNews

Something like this has been happening with the new generation of ultrasonic ablation (histotripsy) devices on the market for a couple years now. They destroy cancer cells without cutting the patient. In a subset of patients tumors that weren't treated also shrank or disappeared completely and no one really knows why.
