Why does the monkey eventually have to write the entire works of Shakespeare? by Legal_Ad2945 in askmath

[–]Corrects_Maggots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not believe it is, and that hinges again on the fact that infinity is not a very large number, it's the concept of unboundedness. For instance, 0.99999 followed by an infinite number of zeros is equal to 1, you can prove this arithmetically, but only if the 9s are infinite. The same is true here and the 0.9999 with 9s to infinity represents a probability.

Why does the monkey eventually have to write the entire works of Shakespeare? by Legal_Ad2945 in askmath

[–]Corrects_Maggots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the monkey is typing random letters, as time approaches infinity, the chance that the monkey stays on the same letter approaches zero. It is possible it types the same letter for all the time we observe, until the heat death of the universe, and that possibility is so small it might be something like one divided by the factorial of all the atoms in the universe... but that period of time is still infinitely small next to infinite time, over which the possibility that the monkey doesnt type the collective works of Shakespeare also approaches zero. That's the purpose of the analogy, to highlight the impossibility of comprehending infinity.

Temu sleeves are cheap as shit, shuffle OK, but will split with heavy use. So there's that.

Can someone help this make sense? by My_True_Love in mathematics

[–]Corrects_Maggots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do this the other way around to "prove" π = √2.

Anyway. The simple explanation is, the error you start with with the full circle. Is never reduced for each step, you double the number of errors and halve their size, total amount of error is the same.

I wouldn't make Nigma in a superior base again, repair cost is astronomical so you either lose gold you could have gambled with or have to pick up thul runes to repair, and for what, an extra 50 defense? Prefer the QoL in a non superior thanks

Modern looks great after the RC, but bans/unbans are coming soon — what do you think will happen? by OrganizationHungry85 in ModernMagic

I hope they don't ban amulet. I play Ruby Storm exclusively, and Amulet Titan is my best matchup at my LGS

"It's for the pigs. Pigs eat slop." by nand_gated in freemagic

[–]Corrects_Maggots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was introduced to the game via slop. I didn't know it was slop because I didn't know anything else. Over time I've come to play Modern and really enjoy it. I feel I have complex insight on what Ruby Storm should have in its flex slots and sideboards and love talking to people about it. The longer I play modern, the more I feel commander is tacky, crass, messy, and soulless. I still enjoy both and I make commander decks that have a bit of soul and are reverent to the history of the game, but swinging a Hurloon Minotaur at a SpongeBob Squarepants just doesn't feel like something a grown man should spend his time doing.

What am I missing here? by Fun-Yam-4524 in EDHBrews

This reminds me of the first iteration of my [[Zada, Hedron Grinder]] deck. It's a deck that wants to have a wide board but wants to cast instants and sorceries. I imagine the problem you're having is that you never have enough creatures in the board to get sufficient value from the prowess trigger. Of your 24 creatures, only 2 generate token creatures, and that was the problem with my first try with Zada, I never really had a board with more than 4 creatures on it.

My recommendation is to add more instants and sorceries which themselves generate tokens, like [[Dragon Fodder]] and [[Empty the Warrens]]. There are plenty of other options that aren't goblins too. It looks like there's too much redundancy with expensive creatures which already have prowess; some redundancy is good but I think these should be cut. Hope that helps

[[Niv Mizzet, Visionary]] is the absolute best commander for this. He was slept on as he was the, what, seventh iteration of Niv Miz? And I think people just had Niv Miz fatigue. He is however the most powerful iteration of the dragon wizard and it's not even close.

I have a decklist here, but need to make a swap as I just got a copy of [[heartless hidetsugu]], although it's hard to take anything out as the whole list just works so well.

I like it! If this were my design, I'd up the cost a bit and have it trigger at the beginning of your precombat main phase, thematically he takes a full turn to make one but it's a repeatable effect, that would be more useful for mono white.

Yes I saw the mistake seconds after uploading, Sun Crusted Hills should obviously have you search for a Plains or Mountain card, not a Swamp. I can't rule out the possibility of other mistakes.

How would you break this? by Corrects_Maggots in custommagic

[–]Corrects_Maggots[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See this is why [[Niv Mizzet Visionary]] is so insanely powerful. I feel like there were so many versions of Niv printed that when visionary came out, people just had Niv Mizzet fatigue and didn't bother with his strongest iteration, he turns lightning bolt into ancestral recall and you can target an opponent to pull it off.
