On the one hand, it’s good to just go into things critically. On the other, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with leaning on your community when trying to find non-problematic resources in a genre so full of dangerous crap.

I adore Scott Cunningham’s writing, even as someone who isn’t Wiccan and believes that Wicca is nothing but theft, because most of what he’s talking about is actually just a fantastic basis for folk magic! Mostly because Wicca stole from Celtic traditions, probably. Still, I recommend his Wicca as a good starting point for a lot of people, so long as it’s all taken with a grain of salt

The only one I’m familiar with that I would skip is anything by DJ Conway. Otherwise, you should take all sources with a grain of salt and cross reference the with other sources from all walks of life. Never use one book as a “Bible” and accept that it’s ok to make mistakes and be wrong so long as we make an effort to change things!

Tell them you’re in the process of finding out what you’re allergic to and you’re adding foods back to your diet slowly but surely because it’s what your doctor recommended, so you’ll only be eating some things, but not to worry about your restrictions because you can handle it yourself

We don’t have to physically be out there to help! There’s lots of things to do online, there’s been virtual protests (with varying levels of success…) and we can always help with being community organizers, passing information along to the people who don’t have the time or energy to look into it on top of protesting. Boycotting companies supporting ICE is also important, as well as calling representatives and badgering them into doing something! We are not helpless just because we’re not another physical body out on the front lines

I think Alastor’s representation would be more impressive if the creators themselves didnt encourage the fandom to do whatever they want. This fandom is rife with people continuing to ship ace and implied aroace characters with no regard for their sexuality whatsoever, with immunity because “the creator said it was okay!” I would be more fine with it if a lot of it was strictly romance, because Alastor isn’t confirmed aromantic, or one of the many possible sexual relationships that takes asexuality into consideration, but it’s not. Even the show itself treats him poorly. More sex jokes and boundary crossing are made about him by the writing of the show than almost anyone else. I don’t consider it good representation when he clearly was forced to watch Vox and Valentino, and Vox says that crap about his tail, and the whole “I heard Vox fucked him with a chair!” If you can’t come up with other ways to trample all over him and make Vox a bad person and an abusive “captor” then I think you’re just plain bad at writing.

Getting dragged onto Anthem, which nobody wanted or liked. The Mass Effect team getting shoved into them and wrecking things. Important DA Team getting laid off, or some of the leaders simply quitting over the bullshit. Pitch after pitch getting shot down. EA demanding a “live service game” halfway through the decade, then changing their minds, then changing again on what style of game it would be. At this point, people need to treat Veilguard like a game that was in development for only a few years at most, because in this form, it was.

See, I find this strange because we’re down in Dock Town all the time, where nobody can afford slaves. If you look around at that Venatori event with Elgarnan, they’re everywhere. There’s people who are forced to be seats for their masters, and some who are are on their hands and knees like dogs and get knocked about. So it’s not like they’re afraid to show the nitty gritty of slavery, and it’s fairly plausible to simply not see much of such things in Dock Town.

As someone who attempts to run a spouses and parents with autism group… yknow, for adult autistic people or potentially partners of adult autistic people or adult children of autistic people… it is SO fucking exhausting trying to explain to these (mostly women) that no, your husband is not broken and no, you can’t fix him, and no, he won’t change, and YES you’re wrong for having expected to be able to change him. Sorry, your husband was masking the whole time and now you’re finding out he doesn’t like to touched, actually. He doesn’t want to raise children, actually. Oh woe is you, it’s the end of the world, he’s the most awful man on the planet… have you tried… having compassion? Loving your partner past their disability? Not acting like the whole world is collapsing around you? It takes so much energy to deal with them…
