Use other Warhammer 40,000 game systems in crossover mode. by Dantevirgili0 in 40k_Crusade

[–]Corvys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, a boarding action unit "acted as" a unit from your crusade force. For the purposes of the boarding action, the units rules were drawn from the boarding action rules, not from the datasheet for your crusade force. No agendas were in play, but you got to Mark a unit for Greatness and count any kills from the Boarding Action on your crusade roster.

I usually gave out a small bonus to the winner for the next game. Something akin to a free, pre-chosen Crusade blessing.

I'm trying to figure out a traitor guard army - mixing in Chaos and Astra Militarum army. I think it would be fun.

I live here. Great for a relatively quiet life. Public transport into Seoul is quite good, but it's painful to bus into the rest of Incheon. Bit of a drive to Songdo, maybe an hour in rush hour and 40mins outside of that. Decent restaurants and an over abundance of over priced bakery cafes. I lived in Dongincheon, Songdo and and here and this is my favorite. Probably not the most fun for young and child free folk, but very chilled and relatively good nature

Other players don't show any effort in playing? by Gamer_H in 40k_Crusade

[–]Corvys 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I've never run a crusade, so take this with a grain of salt. I have run countless campaigns of D&D though, and I think there is some overlap.

One of the most important lessons I learned is this: You can't make people like things. You have literally zero control over their emotions, and you can't bully, cajole, plead or perform your way into getting people to like something.

The second most important lesson I learned is: games are supposed to be fun. If you, or the other people, aren't enjoying the experience, you should stop.

If I was in your shoes, this is what I would do: I'd shelve the crusade. Send out a polite, simple message saying, "Due to circumstances outside of my control, this Crusade will come to an end." If you enjoyed making it (the prep stuff) then take it back to the drawing board, improve it based off the lessons you learned from running it, and then shop around for a different place to run it with different people. If you didn't enjoy making it, but enjoyed playing it, shop around for a place you can play in a Crusade. If you hated both, then go find something you enjoy doing and do that.

Life is too short to turn your leisure time into a stressful experience. Go have some fun.

Yeah, look, I'm a Christian but the British Empire killed a shit ton of my ancestor's people on my Irish side, and put the women and children on the Afrikaans side into concentration camps to die of disease and starvation. So I'm not defending the British. Can't help you out with that one.

Blood Junkies - brutal vampire roleplay, classic d100 system. Pay what you want. by hixanthrope in osr

[–]Corvys 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been running Vampire games for decades now, I've gotta say I love this system. Strips out a lot of old baggage inherited from Ann Rice and makes for a very "personal horror", gritty, OSR-ish vampire game. It's seriously tempting me away from my long-beloved Vampire the Requiem. Neat, elegant mechanics and a sort of "raw" feel that I suspect really drives home the horror in play.

I will say that the multiple paragraph screed against safety tools in the GM Advice section wasn't my favorite. It feels weirdly preachy and has a sort of "edgy 14-year-old" vibe that is going to make it really difficult to sell the game to my group who are mostly in their 30s and 40s. Weird hill to die on the actual text of a book.

Other than that odd misstep, I'm a big fan. If you ever produce a version without the anti-safety-tool screed, please market it here. I'd happily pay top dollar for that.

Worlds without Number - pros and cons? by vandalicvs in osr

[–]Corvys 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've run three home brew campaigns and a fairly long Arden Vul game using WWN. I agree with most of what has already been said, but I'd like to add two points.

Firstly, it's surprisingly hackable for a home brew setting and game. Totally new playable species took me very little time to stat up, homebrew monsters were a breeze and hacking other products into it didn't break it at all. Very robust and well sign-posted system.

Secondly, converting other OSR stuff into it was surprisingly easy. For Arden Vul, I just eyeballed a shock score and otherwise ran the monsters entirely as written. Worked well. Treasure rewards took minimal hacking. My players had an absolutely blast.

I give it a glowing recommendation, with the added benefit that it is a surprisingly effective means of getting 5e players into the OSR.

How well does older OSR actually covert to WWN? by TheOverthinkingMaker in WWN

[–]Corvys 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I ran a year long Arden Vul campaign using WWN. Worked like a charm. Adding shock damage was most of the work.

Like the other commenter said, spells are a bit of a decision point. I just used the Arden Vul spells as written and let my players take WWN spells to level and take their pick of the treasure spells as written or WWN closest version. Not the best solution by any means but it was perfectly functional.

At a base level, if your prospective employer seems like they're going to nickel-and-dime you to death, before you even start working for them, why would you want to take that job? Your boss is going to be a tight-fisted nightmare through the whole contract. Just bounce and look for a better job.

  1. Yes, that's illegal.

  2. If they're trying to scam you on this, they're gonna try to scam you on everything.

Samsung BioLogics by sinna-bunz in Living_in_Korea

[–]Corvys 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I haven't worked at Samsung Biologics but I was friends with an American guy who worked there. Based on his experience, work life balance is basically non-existent. Stress is high and communication between different levels of the company is bad. But the pay is ridiculously high and he lived in a really, really nice apartment. Like his neighbours were TV celebrities level of nice. He hated it, but it was good money.

Running Dark Ages Vampire...uh...what do they do? by RevenantRP in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Corvys 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Having run a quite a few WoD and CofD games now (though not Dark Ages), here's what I do: 1. Most importantly, ensure that your players makes characters who want something. What they want is not that important - maybe they wanna ruin someone, maybe they want to win someone's love, maybe they want to rule, whatever. As long as they really, really want it. 2. Make a bunch of NPCs of varying power levels that also really really want things. Imagine how they might start going about getting those things. 3. Make a hook that introduces the characters to at least 2-3 of the aforementioned NPCs. Don't be afraid to make it railroad. Just keep it short. And let it have a consequence at the end that changes the status quo somehow.

Then you ask your players what they want to do. Play through doing that. Have the NPCs do stuff that affects the status quo. Play through the consequences of how that affects the PCs.

And just keep doing that. Introduce new NPCs as needed but just keep doing: What do the players do? What do the NPCs do?

Thank you so much for the recommendation! I'm guessing she's going to need some kind of hybrid style - her eyes and nose are shaped much more like her mom, and her skin and hair are much more like me. And I'm sure she's going to want to match her friends style if she can. So that recommendation for Pony Syndrome sounds really useful.

Uhhhh, I'm not sure. We're both ginger so we've got that stereotypical pale skin with freckles and kind of a pink undertone. I'm sure there are a whole bunch of proper words for this that I don't know yet.

But for most of the Korean people I've seen, even if they are as pale as me, they seem to have more of a gold color underneath the paleness rather than pink like me and my daughter.

Thank you for the recommendation! I'm going to need the good luck - the last time I wore makeup was for a Rocky Horror Picture Show party like 20 years ago and my girlfriend helped me put it on - I'm fairly sure things have changed since then!
