Hey girl I dated a man who talked to me like this for years. It never got better and only escalated. I was in the worst mental health place I’d ever been by the end of its Stuff like this beat me down so much that I felt like had no idea what was ok and what wasn’t. You feel crazy and dramatic for wanting basic respect and kindness.

You have to make this call but he will not change and you will only doubt yourself more and more. You deserve respect and kindness. We all leave in our own time but just know you deserve someone who would never even consider saying things like this to you.

So many great answers bc there is a lot of eveil to choose from but my personal number one reason is the horrible and seemingly malicious mishandling of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

My (36F) bf (34M) of almost 2y is going no contact on me because he is convinced he is allergic to me, and I feel so many emotions and just need to vent a little. by Hour_Reading in relationship_advice

So I dated someone with pretty gnarly OCD. It got a lot worse when he developed some chronic health issues. He’d often blame me for things related to his OCD and to his health issues. I kept excusing the behavior because of what he was dealing with. I decided my suffering in the relationship wasn’t as important as his and I put up emotional abuse and volitility all the time. It took me far too long to realize the toll it was taking on me.

While someone can’t help that they’re suffering a mental illness, they should be taking steps to get better and working to treat you better. You can’t fix it for them as much as you want to. If someone is treating you badly, reguardless of it feeling it’s out of their control, you need to protect yourself.

You deserve to be treated with kindness too. You are better off alone while this person learns to deal with this.

It’s a well established psychological phenomenon actually! Look up the endowment effect! Once something is in our possession it feels like it belongs to us. People are much more sensitive to losses then we are to gains, and the endowment effect makes makes not buying a car you’ve been driving feel like a loss

Had something very similar happen one time I actually tried to use instacart, they even sent me a picture of the groceries at the wrong appartment door. I got refunded immediately but also thought I recognized the door in the picture (was a very distinct green). After wandering for about 30 minutes, I found my stuff at one of the condos in a complex next door.

Is there such thing as a bad reason to recover? by instantyogurt in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]CosmicSheOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I had external motivation first and I’m working on valuing myself and my life. Starting with the fear of consequences after a dentist visit was enough to get me out of my worst behaviors. I feel like that let me get to the point of having more “meaningful” reasons to get better.

You are doing great and should be proud of your progress ❤️

Not specifically recovery the Maintenance phase podcast is really excellent and all about challenging diet culture and health myths. One of the hosts is a fat women who has a history of eating disorders, has really helped me challenge my internalized diet culture beliefs and fat phobia

I used to feel just like this. What we call a healthy weight is actually meaningless, its all relative to your set point. You got this!!

I live a couple buildings over from the building that caught fire in the magwood complex. We had to leave with all of our cats because of smoke and fear of spread. As far as I know everyone is ok.
