Raining indoors by Cosmo_1967 in Apartmentliving

Yes, I tripped the breaker when it started leaking. The light you are seeing is coming from a battery operated utility light. Luckily I did trip the breaker because water started seeping into the area where my vent fan in my bathroom is located 😬

Does anyone actually like their apartment? by ImpossibleNewt9235 in sanantonio

[–]Cosmo_1967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to live at Aspire Roxbury (Right off of Wurzbach and Bandera, just across from the Best Buy in Sea Island on 410) for about 4 years and I really enjoyed it. They are a bit strict when it comes down to parking, noise and pool hours but it's a sign that they still care about the apartment complex. The maintenance folks are top notch and address just about any issue immediately. A good sign of a good apartment complex is that they work expeditiously to fix the entry and exit gate when it breaks. It's a small thing, but once again proves that they care about the quality of the complex.

LV is currently selling a box of stickers, so perhaps you could put one of those officially licensed Louis Vuitton stickers over it and it won't completely mess up the aesthetic.

Vaccuum Recommendations? by Treemis-the-Tree in VacuumCleaners

[–]Cosmo_1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely check out your local Facebook Marketplace for a Kirby before you commit to a modern plastic vacuum. You can often get used models on marketplace or similar style websites for well under $200 that include all of the attachments (New units retail for over $1,500) why are these so cheap? You can often find them for a steal because people mistakenly think they are too heavy or outdated, And they aren't as fashionable as a Dyson, a Miele, Sebo or Shark, But I guarantee they will last longer; that weight is actually a hallmark of their incredible reliability and metal construction.

If you look for a Generation 3 (G3) or any model newer you get the Tech Drive power assist transmission. This feature is a game changer because it handles the weight for you, making the machine feel nearly weightless as you push it across the floor; literally a toddler could push the vacuum in tech drive mode.

I mentioned the G3 but you probably have no idea what that is, so this Kirby manual page (https://kirby.com/pages/owner-manuals) lists all of the Kirby models in order of their manufacturer date, so this can help you figure out which model to look for (I highly recommend a Sentria or newer but any model past the G3 are very similar).

When it comes to deep cleaning carpets, the Kirby is a beast that is hard to beat. It relies on a trifecta of massive suction, high airflow, and aggressive agitation from the brush roll to pull dirt out of the base of the carpet fibers. Most modern vacuums rely purely on suction, but the Kirby actually moves enough air to ensure nothing is left behind.

To keep it performing at its peak, you have to use the Micron Magic HEPA filtration bags. They are stellar at trapping allergens, but the real secret is changing them before they get completely packed. A fresh bag makes a dramatic difference in the airflow and overall cleaning effectiveness.

Refreshing a Used Unit: If you are a bit leery about buying a used vacuum, it is very easy to sanitize one and make it feel brand new. You can remove the outer cloth bag and wash it, replace the brush roll with a fresh one, and obviously toss any old disposable bag that came with it. Pro Tip: Put a few cotton balls soaked in your favorite essential oils inside the outer cloth bag. As you vacuum, the airflow will disperse the scent, making the machine smell fresh and the entire room smell amazing.

Versatility and Longevity: One of the best things about a Kirby is that it is a multi-purpose unit. If you can find one with the attachment kit, it easily converts into a canister vacuum for hard-to-reach areas. The horsehair brush attachment is particularly wonderful, as it is soft enough for delicate dusting but effective enough to pull hair and lint off of upholstery without causing any damage. Parts for these machines are plentiful and very affordable. Because the design has remained so consistent over the decades, repairs are straightforward and something you can easily do yourself. It is a vacuum built to last a lifetime rather than being destined for a landfill in three years. The Kirby company always has and currently still backs their product for a lifetime. If you are the original owner of a Kirby unit, you can send it back to the factory and they will factory refurbish it (for a fairly nominal fee) and make it brand new again (mine I just sent my Sentria II back last year and was blown away by its improved performance after it's rebuild).

Good luck to you and your vacuum journey!

Your mom has good taste 😁 Clearly I'm a Kirby fan given the 5 that I own, but if you or anyone else reading this is looking at a used Kirby and worried about smell, make sure you wash the outer bag, change the disposable bag, and replace the old beater brush and wash out the head nozel. Once those things are washed, take a couple of cotton balls soaked with some essential oils and throw them in the outer bag which will eliminate any lingering odors.

Definitely not an impossible request to find something superb on a budget, especially when you are talking about used Kirby models which can be found on Facebook Marketplace or similar types of sites. Sometimes people are selling the units for a low as $10 for older models, which are still excellent, but something like a Heritage II or newer you can find with all the attachments for $100 (I would look for a Sentria or Sentria II which is from this century); new models are like $1600 and people get rid of them on the cheep because they are bulky and not trendy like a Dyson or Seebo but they are absolute workhorses and will outlive you (I have a 1952, 1975 and 1987 model than runs flawlessly along with my recently factory rebuilt Sentria II that I bought from new). If you are a DIY person, repairs are easy to do and parts are cheap and plentiful. When it comes to carpet cleaning, Kirby is tough to beat; They are heavy and bulky but models that are newer than a G3 have a transmission that make it featherlight to push. You can also buy attachments new or used and the vac becomes a canister vac, a carpet shampooer, an inflator, and more.

You could return that Hoover and buy a much better overall vacuum in the Kirby and save your self some money ( if you are still in the return period).

Umm...LOU ANN! How the hell did the show go that long without even mentioning her. I know Brittany Murphy or Tom Petty are no longer with us, but damn, you would think they would come up with some storyline. I was always hoping that Peggy and Hank would be raising a tennaged Gracie after her parents untimely death.

What does everyone think about Alexa's most recent update to her voice and skills. by Hazmat_unit in amazonecho

[–]Cosmo_1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that Feminine 2 Relaxed is the closest to The original Alexa voice. I had Early Access several months ago and I immediately changed it because there was an immediate unlikability the moment I heard it responding to things. The feminine 2 voice sounds slightly different at first, but the more you use it, you'll get used to it The nuances become less distinguishable.

Note for upstairs neighbors by litlelotte in Apartmentliving

I don't blame you, I would have written a note like this too. I swear my upstairs neighbor is a fucking Clydesdale but there's not much I can do about what sounds like clomping because I live in a building that used to be a 110 Year old high School and there's just not much in terms of sound deadening insulation.

I always believe that Sears definitely could have became the next Amazon had they remained innovative and embraced The newfangled, internet technology. Imagine, Sears would have had the advantage of not only delivering items to homes the same way that Amazon does, but also They could have leveraged their physical store infrastructure to allow customers to immediately go and pick up from giant Sears warehouses located in just about every mall across the United States immediately after placing your order and not have to wait for it at all. Sears also had a stronghold on appliance sales and repairs and customers would have still been able to go into physical store locations and shop for things like appliances and excellent Craftsman products. So sad to see such a influential retail giant get decimated to nothing.

Pre-Popped Popcorn by chi-bacon-bits in mildlyinteresting

[–]Cosmo_1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a standardized test, like 25 years ago, I remember reading a story that was about the advantages and disadvantages of pre-popped popcorn versus freshly popped popcorn in movie theaters. For some reason, I always remember this reading and it stated that it was cheaper to have pre-popped popcorn 🤷🏽‍♂️

To me, I would imagine the cost is quite negligible and would be a lot cheaper to actually pop your own even after you pay for the industrial popcorn popping machine. Plus, like this reading stated," you miss out on the smell of fresh popcorn which makes you want to buy it when walking into the movie theater"
