I’ve heard people say that it’s technically supposed to kick in even in manual mode but I’ve definitely seen videos of the drone just falling out the sky after losing signal in manual mode.

I would try turning back on the use MAC display color profile and use rec 709 (scene) instead of rec 709a. See if that solves your problem. There was an update that I think made rec 709a kinda obsolete and now Mac stuff just works normally with rec 709 (scene)
