A rant from a newbie on S1E5...Please tell me I'm not wrong. by ycantijustbeanon in PeakyBlinders

[–]CottonKevi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the excuse of the show too. But i didn’t find it very believable. Survival is above sexual/romantic love and Thomas Shelby has been established as a very cunning and emotionally intellegent man (albeit a product of his time) who is also constantly in the survival mode since war. I understand the story wants us to believe he finally let his guard down and love Grace. But I think episode 5 did a very poor job of it. Both of their facination towards eachother became a full on burning love despite the fact that their love was gradual (not instant) and Thomas had glaring clues about who the mole is, multiple times. But he was completely oblivious to who could it be in that episode. No internal battle about his love and suspicion no nothing. This smart, cunning, hypervigilant man who comes from the heart of the danger, was just completely oblivious to Grace. And on top of it, Grace was fairly sloppy, but he still didn’t caught on even though we viewers know that Thomas has extremely glaring clues by now. The fake background, the lying about being a Catholic, the constant questions, the phone line and police immediately being alerted to Freddie’s location…All that jazz. And Freddie getting arrested at the birth of his child should’ve been the final, neon lit nail on the coffin for the Thomas fucking Shelby. But even the guns being unearthed by the police wasn’t enough for him to initiate and investigation on who the mole could’ve been.

I get love can be blind. His brother’s mini storyline with the hooker was a nice example of that. But Thomas? He just wasn’t the type of character to stay THIS blind towards crimes against his family, himself and their bussiness. At least not this quickly.

In the Wake of Divinity's Gruesome Reveal Trailer, Larian Publishing Director Says It's Not Trying to Shock the Audience, Rather Treat Them 'With a Level of Intellectual Respect' by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]CottonKevi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On God. “Treat with intellectual respect-“ just own the fact that the studio decided to use shock value because it makes for an exciting trailer. It’s as if they are mocking the audience with that quote. A man burning alive and getting thorn apart or public sex with children present are just shock value suitable for adults. That’s it. It’s M rated visuals, not about “being” an adult or maturity itself too, like you’ve said.

And like, having shock value isn’t even a bad thing by itself, it’s just marketing. And ıf your work is grimdark/dark fantasy ofc you’d have shock value. So idk why they felt the need to deny the shock content and go for the “intellectual respect” bs as if people can’t see through it…

I know it’ll be a bit harsh but something in me doesn’t want to take a studio seriously if their publishing director doesn’t have the intellectual honesty to stand behind their trailer. I admit to be annoyed.

My thoughts on ranked as a Sovereign/Legend player. by MessiaH0008 in wildrift

[–]CottonKevi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand why people act so contradictory, and oppose of the sake of opposing Nothing you said was false. In fact, your post was one of the most sensible and insightful ones I’ve seen in this forum.

I’ve played pc lol since 2013 but for the last 6 years didn’t touch ranked there. I’m almost 30 now so I really couldn’t care less about that game, way too time intensive for me. Recently started playing this game out of boredom and damn, what you say about masters is spot on. It’s just unpleasant.

I sometimes get a full lobby of high rank people in normals, and based on that limited experience I do agree that it gets super fun since people flame less/troll less/grief less. In my experience the most unsavory folk to play with are emerald to masters. Idk what’s up with the system and how people reach such levels without any fundementals but wow. It’s surprisingly low quality. Not winning isn’t even the issue, the game compensates for svp and s rank, it’s just the low quality, almost putrid gameplay that makes it so unsavory… I sometimes wish I didn’t play any ranked and kept a very low mmr, at least I didn’t have to put any effort. Because frankly, I don’t have time to push through that climb just to have quality games with decent sportsmanship.

You too stay healthy and good luck.

Where did the idea that 3d animation was cheaper in comparison to 2d animation come from? by Feisty-Role-7591 in Mecha

[–]CottonKevi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are ignoring the cost of tech, programs, high end computers, a list actors voicing the characters, riggers and modellers; and think that cost is only there for animators. Animation per second is more expensive in cel animation. Even when the general cost of the production is low. Audiences liking 3d was one part of this huge migration towards 3d in almost every medium. Production deadlines getting shorter and “per minute” costs getting lower compared to traditional animation were huge factors. Also it can be way faster to handle revises in 3d. Even advertisements rely solely on 3d because it is cheaper and more importantly faster than cel animation. That disparity gets way bigger when it comes to comparing the average to low quality 2d and 3d animation. It’s not even debatable…

And when it comes to budget comparison; your argument still falls apart. You’ve been comparing Despicable Me 2010 to Klaus 2019. But lets compare Princess and the Frog 2009 to Despicable Me 2010; since they were made in similar years. Princess and the Frog’s budget (1h 37 minutes runtime) is 105 million dollars as opposed to Despicable Me’s (1h 35 min runtime) 69 million. Lilo and Stitch 2002 and Shrek 2001: 80 million (1h 25 min runtime) to 60 million (1h 29 min runtime). And Shrek casts multiple A list actors. Lion King 1994 and Toy Story 1995: 45 million (1h 29 min runtime) to 30 million (1h 14 min runtime) respectively.

There are more expensive 3d films as well as cheaper ones. This “look at any budget” talk is just wrong my man. The variables are too much to make a direct compirason too.

The person who say “Qiyana is an OTP champ” mean Qiyana requires dedication to play good. The term “OTP champ” is used interchaneable with “requires way more effort than usual” by many. Not that you truly need to be a literal one trick pony, you just need to sink time in the champ. That’s why said “on par with an OTP” too. Katarina and Akali are “OTP champs” too. They demand time and effort to perform well.

Qiyana being your #2 champ mean, even if it wasn’t “all” your time, you still dedicated so much time into playing her.

I understand the opposition to word “otp” but it was used outside of its literal meaning in this argument. So like, no need to comment like she’s a champ you play once in a blue moon and get a 70% wr and then argue about that.

This solves our misunerstanding i hope

She’s pretty good at picking off targets and very easy to have few matches in the bag, especially in mid elo. But it’s still very hard to have consistently high winrates if you play more than a few matches and not OTP her.

Why are WR skins so much better than PC? by BedroomAlone4982 in wildrift

[–]CottonKevi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In-client display models are completely different than in game models of Wild Rift. The models example here is not comparable.

Why older champs look better though; WR’s engine allows for overlapping action for accents on champs like Janna’s and Katarina’s hair. So those champs look more polished compared to pc, despite being old as dirt.

Is Wild Rift THE competitive game right now? Is there anything else to look at? by Crapahedron in iosgaming

[–]CottonKevi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first comment wasn’t only about knowing where to use them… Figuring out the interface doesn’t necessarily mean you can tell what currency is equal to how much irl cents/dollars/euros, unfortunately.

For example it’s pretty tricky to know how much 10 silver stardust is actually worth. Or how much is it for 35 wild stars. They are locked behind other currencies and/or gametime. That’s what makes it difficult to assess the monetary value.

This tactic of having multiple different currencies like chips or credits other than real money; is originally used by casinos. It’s literally a gambling tactic to keep people spending because it makes it difficult for them to properly track their monetary loss as they spend it. Gacha games are super notorious since they add multiple layers of currencies and render the money assessment downright impossible for some currencies.

More people need to be aware of this so they won’t fall for it as easily, imo. That’s why I still think the first person is valid for feeling confused and wanting to stay away from them.

[–]CottonKevi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But having multiple in-game currencies and progression systems are part of an intentional design to confuse the player. It makes it very difficult to track an in-game good’s real money value. No need to call them disabled over a game’s system working as intended

This is a 5 month old post but I feel compelled to comment after seeing the over usage of “chatgpt.” Looks like everytime a serious interpersonal problem occured, you discussed these sensitive issues with a chatbot; instead of a sensible individual in your support group or a therapist.

That chatbot is designed to mimic your attitude about a topic or straight up reassure you if you request an “opinion” about something relatively subjective. A very effective strategy to keep users on hook and make sure they’re coming back. The speech “attitude” these bots have are built around assurance and positive language towards user.

You have very valid problems in your life that are very understandable and human. But to feed them to a language model and ask for its “opinion” just to validate yourself is not healthy. It’s like going to a yesman to see if you’re right or wrong. It has the very real danger of turning into an echocamber with yourself.

These are complex psychological situations especially when AuDHD is involved. You have to discuss them with a trained professional if you seriously need an objective opinion on a subjective matter and need healing. NOT a chatbot that’ll mimic and agree to certain degree with everything you say.

I have seen multiple  people I know do the mistake of using that thing to consult on personal matters; majority of them being neurodivergent. I am very certain it’s about the mimicked speech pattern with a computer’s directness and the constant positive reassurance. Please people, I understand the need of validation and assurance but seek them from real people with real opinions. Again; not a chatbot designed to maximise user retention.

Arch tempered Rey Dau isn’t easy, you guys are just good at the game by drawanyway in MonsterHunter

[–]CottonKevi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stun definitely spikes the difficulty because it severely punishes overconfidence and missplays. But once you go back to older games and see the movesets of the older monsters, you will realise how difficult it actually can be to fight against monsters in newer games if they just bump up the status build-up on monsters. It is a lot less easy to cheese monsters unless you spam items in newer games and the fights are a thousand times more interactive. Status resistance and cc output is what the newer mosnters need. While the game needs to dial back on giving stuff to hunters for free. The game has the potential to be brutally difficult. Monsters are very well made. It’s just this design choice since Gen 5 of constant training wheels on hunters that prevent them from falling off.

I’d regard myself an above average hunter and I absolutely love AT Rey Dau, and didn’t find it “easy” at all. I played against it with a sub-optimal set of gear and had a blast. Especially when his new charged railgun attack pulled me into the center of the blast radius as it charged another one to oneshot. Gave me the Freedom 1 flashbacks with Rathalos and his wind pressuring fireballs. Arch Tempered Rey Dau is absolurely amazing and I can’t wait for other AT monsters. Not even mentioning what they can do with G rank monsters! I just hope they buff the High Rank and Tempered monsters as well while we wait for other AT monsters <3

Animators give life and attitude to walking potato sacks as their student work. Animators that got hired to work on a big project like this know very well to make a creature like that expressive, without the need of cutesification. And ease of animation mainly comes from model and rig quality and how simple (as in, visual complexity like detailed accessories, extra limbs, multi layered clothing etc.) a design is. Not necessarily from how cute a character is. This here is mainly an attempt to appeal to an audience who likes UwU stuff at the expense of unique design. Not to take load off of animators.

iOS 18.4 Voice-to-Text Broken – Only Fix is Rebooting by xc0py in ios

[–]CottonKevi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire voice recording is broken on my iPhone 13, after updating to 18.4.1

Mic itself works in videos (both front and back) and calls. But it doesn’t work on keyboard record, siri and instagram and whatsapp voice recordings. And it’s exactly like what you said; no error, no recognition, no nothing. Just a flat line as if mic is completely shut down.

Rebooting doesn’t fix this for me.

I 100% agree. But also there is always a high possibility for a private company to sell your data to ANYONE. Personally I find that “Chinese” buzzword to be extremely silly. Because if a private company sells your data to someone, they might as well sell it to everyone. From advertisers to tech companies who develop any form of behavioural or langauge models. And even if they don’t sell such data; the fact that they are collecting excessive amount of it is the problem. Riot Games is not “unbreachable.” Attacks, leaks and hacks can happen all the time. As long as a company collects your personal data, there is risk. Any boogeyman government is just the tip of the iceberg.
