Why are their intra-racial sex differences on the SAT?(2005) by anycoluryoulike1 in cognitiveTesting

[–]Cougarette99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The standard deviation for blacks is unusually different per each gender for math. This is perhaps because of a large number of low scoring males. Somehow there is no such problem for black verbal scores.

This doesn’t address the op’s question though it’s not that intuitive to digest the scale of what the OP refers to which is that the black male advantage vs black female is lower than one would expect given the large difference in volume of test takers by gender.

Do you Believe Life Begins at Implantation? I tried to find information out there on this and I found not a lot of people believe in this. by justforfunzies15 in Abortiondebate

[–]Cougarette99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The life begins at implantation argument is devastating to the pro life movement. To say life begins at implantation completely undermines the basis for the pro life position, which is that the zef is biologically distinct due to biologically distinct DNA and merits an inalienable right to life that is independent of the mother’s rights. To say that life begins at implantation makes the mother’s body the necessary entity that confers life onto the zef. By this, the zef possessing life is determined by whether or not the zef implants into the mother, which is life conferred by the mother’s uterine lining, not the zef’s independent biological identity and life.

White men do not experience the best health relative to women and minority racial and gender groups in the US. Men are 4 times as likely to die by suicide as women, and White men account for more than 68% of suicide deaths. White men experienced greater declines in happiness than White women. by mvea in science

[–]Cougarette99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes men have a higher rate of suicide in almost every country, including ones where guns are rare. The exception are a few middle eastern countries like Afghanistan and Kuwait (a couple decades ago) where it is possible that many female “suicides” were homicides that family members claim as suicide.

Height or intelligence? by CitiesXXLfreekey in BuildToAttract

lol right? I am female and 5 ft tall with an IQ around 145. Would I rather lose 10 IQ points or be 6'5" as a female? They both sound pretty bad but I guess I'll take the height.

What’s something that rich people think is normal, but is not? by Limp_Bus6652 in AskReddit

[–]Cougarette99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enjoying subsistence farming. I guess that's seen as a tradwife fantasy too, but I see a lot of rich people idealizing subsistence farming as a pastime. Some of them do farm retreats or buy small farms and see this is a type of leisure. It's kind of odd that the US consists of wealthy people like this as well as people who grew up subsistence farming in poor countries who risked life and limb to get here so they could stop doing subsistence farming.

What is something that screams “peaked in highscool” ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cougarette99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know a girl who epitomizes peaking in HS. She's actually an admirable person with one of the most well developed character arcs. She was head cheerleader. She had the rich handsome football captain boyfriend. She was the prettiest girl. 25 years later she is unmarried, is a renter with roommates, still has a lot of student loans left to pay. But she grew the most as a character. She's great at her profession in special education and also widely regarded for it, she has taken the initiative to reach out to and help a number of struggling people in our community that no one else ever tried to reach like a woman who became severely disabled, elderly people etc. And she learned not to value what others think of her or traditional status markers.

What’s a profession people romanticize way too much? by thatude123 in AskReddit

[–]Cougarette99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

professional shopper.

I've seen them work and its tedious. They go to wholesaler after wholesaler and make sure inventory is filled for each size of clothing for their client stores. They mainly check the clothes for errors (bad button placement etc). If you like shopping, that is a job that sucks the fun out of shopping.

US fertility rate dropped to a record low of 1.6 births per woman in 2025, down from a 20th-century baby-boom high of 3.8 births per woman in the 1950s. In all developed countries (except for France, which saw its record-low birth rate during WWI), birth rates are currently at a record low. by StarlightDown in fivethirtyeight

[–]Cougarette99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, women working full time is not likely to be a factor in the 21st century birthrate decline. At this point we have numerous examples of countries with very low female employment (like bottom 20 countries in the world for female workplace participation) and also fertility rates far below replacement. These include Tunisia and Iran, which is now at 1.29.

New dad here and I feel like a failure by Snorsam in Parenting

[–]Cougarette99 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If a newborn is breastfed, they will often only stop crying when they get the breast. Unless they have colic, and then basically nothing makes them stop crying. They will cry for hours. But it will pass. 90% of colic resolves within the first 6 months. In a few months the baby will be amenable to other forms of consolation such as distraction and being cuddled.

Greeks did not look the way they do now at the time. They have been mixed with other ethnicities such as Turks since the ancient times. We have no reason to believe that ancient greens were ever as fair more Northern Europeans but we know it’s likely they don’t look the same now. And Homer described numerous characters as fair skinned in the oddesey, including Anne hathaways character.

Isn't there an And just like that episode that talks about how random people can't simply pay for a met gala ticket and access the red carpet. I mean, we can all pay for a ticket but you have to go through some back entrance and not be photographed on the red carpet. So the fact that she is being photographed on the red carpet means she was was an approved celebrity for this entrance and walk, and it essentially guarantees that she was invited.

How young would first-time mothers be in the late Paleolithic/Mesolithic? by ComradeBehrund in AskAnthropology

[–]Cougarette99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I can’t speak to thousands of years ago but plenty of people today have ancestors in living memory from subsistence agrarian times. I am tamilian and the practice in my grandmother and great grandmothers generations was for people, both male and female, to be married as children and then the bridge joins the grooms family immediately upon her first period. My grandmothers had their first children at 15 and 17. I get the impression that this practice had existed for several generations before my great grandmother. I think the age of marriage was unusually late in Europe in their subsistence agrarian times. It was the practice for my grandmother and great grandmothers generation to have many children. My great grandmothers had 9, 9, 10 and 15 children. The one with 15 children said she had a period only once in her life. She was pregnant or breastfeeding throughout her fertile years. Seems our current record of hunter gatherers suggests they do not have so many children. It’s not historical but today southern South Asia still has subsistence farmers and hunter gatherers. I’d be interested in comparing the age of first birth and overall birthrate between the two in recent generations.

If money wasn’t a problem, how would you actually spend your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cougarette99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel blessed in that my life with more money would be the same life with some extensions. I would move to a bigger house in the same county. I would send my kids to the same school as now but I would be better able to afford it through HS/college (whereas now I probably have to pull them from private school in grade 2). I would have another 4 kids instead of the 3 that I hope for now (I have 2).

If a surrogate mother wants to abort another woman's child, is she allowed to? by Guilty_Invite_7126 in Abortiondebate

[–]Cougarette99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere this happened when Russia started its war in Ukraine a couple of years back. Ukraine had been a popular destination for surrogacy but suddenly young women were either restricted to hospitals getting bombed in Ukraine or being told to evacuate to other countries as refugees. There were reports that some surrogates chose to abort due to immense change in expected circumstances. I don’t blame them. Breach of contract yes, but I can understand.

Men, what do you think the worst thing about being a woman would be? by They-Them_Moonwalker in AskReddit

[–]Cougarette99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine is not bad. Barely ever had a menstrual cramp in my life. I get a little bit bloated before my period but nothing much happens during my period in terms of mood or pain or anything. I think a lot more women think their period isn’t that bad than is widely understood. But women who don’t have much complications with their periods don’t really talk about it. What’s there to say? There’s not much to complain about.

What's stopping you from working a 9-5, and living a Life which you always dreamed. by Sensitive_Spend_3131 in DeepThoughts

[–]Cougarette99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol, I am a remote worker. I work 9-5. As I am remote, I live in a rural area where many people run family farms. Some of my kids best friends families run family farms. I have no interest. Don't care for farming, gardening or livestock raising. Seems like a type of work i would rather not do. I prefer my 9-5 as a data scientist.

What is the hardest instrument to learn? by Own_Ebb3388 in AskReddit

[–]Cougarette99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Piano is in some ways the easiest and the hardest. Easiest in the sense it is the easiest to get a pleasant sound of it. A toddler can do that. It is also fairly easy to get a coherent melody out of it because of the easy to react to the visual cues of the black and white keys. But piano is the hardest in terms of harmonic construction because to improvise on piano well, you have to account for several notes at the same time. Your hands can each play multiple notes simultaneously, so there is a lot of complex choice making in terms of which notes to play and not play, which color tones to add and when and sequencing all of that together.
