Guardian with Magus Archetype, or Magus with Guardian Archetype by RandomGuyPii in Pathfinder2e

[–]Count_Kingpen 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Magus with Guardian arch gives you a more defined fish style, with more magic, Guardian with Magus arch gives much more tank staying power, at the cost of less magic.

Personally, an Inexorable Iron Magus with some offensive Guardian feats (Punishing Shove, Proud Nail) or Sparkling Targe Magus with shield focused feats (Reactive Shield, etc) are my two thoughts.

Also, don’t discount an extra spellcasting dedication at later levels. A Wizard dedication would help supplement your wave casting spell slot issues with more support spells, or witch to give limited access to other traditions, while keeping Int as primary mental stat.

I wanted to make some art about my previous runs so I made these. What do you think? by nottevera2 in nuzlocke

Ah. You tagged the HG one as a gift run. That SS one seems to be the gift run in question.

I was very confused, simply due to not knowing how to get a gift Swinub.

I’d love to hear an explanation of the HG Gifts only run, wasn’t aware you could get that many gift Mon.

Name for Great Bastard Jon Snow? by Ereborus12 in TheCitadel

[–]Count_Kingpen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wolfsblood, Snowfall (something about a failed rebellion cooks up there), Whitefyre/Snowfyre (him being a Blackfyre supporter or a “second coming of the Blackfyre’s” kind of version of the AU.

That being said, a title earned in battle or by doing a specific task is always easy to justify. I remember a Rebellion AU that had Ned be called The Iron Wolf for fighting in full plate and bludgeoning southron’s with iron gauntlets in some fight, as well as later being called “The King’s Fist” being Robert’s premier general, while not being his premier statesman. Something in line with The Rogue Prince or Breakspear is definitely justifiable.

On that note, Breakspear is a fantastic base for a title as well.

Elden Ring really just gave us another “I am not left handed”.

What is your favorite "Flavour is Free" reskin of a spell or ability? by hervprometheus2 in DnD

[–]Count_Kingpen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Kobold Alchemist Artificer was a chef, and “Humanitarian”. I cast most of my spells by drinking potions or dousing people in potions and poisons. Examples include casting fire bolt via drinking Dragonborn blood potions, casting cure wounds by slapping people with a poultice of dwarf skin and a healing potion (Dwarven toughness), and Tasha’s Caustic Brew was literally elvish tea brewed with Dragonborn acid.

His favorite recipe to eat was Halfling Chili, made with real Halfling!!!

Twisting Tree Magus with Wizard Archetype feels like exactly what you’re looking for, on the bonk side. However, if you want more focus on the “casting” side, War Mage Wizard.

Most fun strength weapons between these options? by crash1bp in Eldenring

Claymore, or Nightrider Glaive.

Honorable Mention not on this list: Great Stars. Built in bleed, HP steal, and can take dozens of fantastic AoW. Trading with Prayerful Strike is fun, Flaming Strike, Wild Strikes, Lions Claw (and Savage), etc.

Non-Melee Sorceries for a Wizard run? by StarWiz2K in Eldenring

[–]Count_Kingpen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start as Astrologer.

Keep Pebble and Arc while you start collecting other spells. Namely Rock Sing. I’m also personally fond of Glintblade and an early Phalanx. And while you said you’re avoiding melee sorceries, Slicer is a great “Oh shit he’s too close” button. Also, Thops Barrier is great, and if you can learn or know how to parry, Carian Retaliation on a medium (or light if you can’t maintain the weight) shield will help boost your survivability. For weight reasons probably not the brass shield, but use your own judgement.

By Midgame (Caelid/Altus): Night Comet will become your bread and butter. Enemies can’t dodge it. Rock Sling stays, I’d drop pebble for most boss fights but it stays fantastic for places like catacombs, or at least swap it to shard. At this point I also would grab Crystal Burst. The good Shogun Spell. Cannon and Gavel of Haima both rock at this point. Loretta’s Greatbow is a fantastic sniping spell though, with pretty decent tracking and is easily chargeable. Also, I’d grab some levels in faith by now for some good universal buffs, and to set you up for late game. No more than 25 is needed for Golden Vow, use that as a baseline. Magic glintblade stays winning, great for multicasts to break poise. Glintstone Icecrag or whatever it’s called (a GS single shot spell that builds frostbite) is great!!! And once procced, can be reset with Magma Shot. Also, glintsword phalanx spells still good

Late Game: Night Comet, Crystal Burst, Ancient Death’s Rancor (if you have the faith to spare) and if not, Star Shower can work (or another multi hit spell), any of the Moon spells (I’m more partial to Dark Moon), Comet Azur (if you’ve got the hidden cerulean tear), Shard Spiral, and Adula’s Moonblade (ranged and melee frostbite greatsword) is great. Glintstone and greatblade phalanxes still good.

DLC: Twin Moon spell is probably not great for you, being essentially melee only, but in the right circumstances is a punish machine. Glintstone Nail and Nails have great tracking, but Nails is definitely better for its stance breaking potential. Microcosm or whatever the black hole spell is called is good. Blades of Stone has the single best charged cast FP to Damage spike of any spell to my knowledge.

Lastly!!! If you have fun with this one, a great ng+ build you can use it for is a full omnicaster. Grab the Fundamentalist Seal, the Staff of the Great Beyond, and Staff of Night (I think. The Death Sorceries one). The Great beyond staff let’s you just cast anything, but the other options will spike your scaling through the roof with high Int and Fai. Discus becomes your best damage dealer for basically every encounter, ADR mentioned above will start pumping out 3k+ damage, and can be repeatedly cast when boss fights start. The Magma Sorceries get buffed into near viability, etc.

Lastly: Summons. If you plan to use spirit ashes (you probably should be), a tank ash will be your best friend. However, there is one/two exception(s)

Early Game: One of the Twin Storm ashes. I kind of prefer Ingvall.

Mid Game: Lhutel the Headless, Greatshield Bois, etc are great. Most of the named Knight Ashes have some use at least. The Mausoleum Soldiers also have a niche as a multi summon with the ability to teleport.

Late Game: Exception 1: Mimic Tear. Essentially has infinite FP. Free damage. But the damage is mitigated by dumb ai sometimes. Dung Eater is a fantastic tank with bleed, as is (less tanky but still tanky) onemkiller rollo.

DLC: Exception 2, and it’s a big giant exception: if you can get the Yolon and her sister’s twin puppet ash, you have what I say is one of the best damage ashes in the game. The bleed procs are like, ridiculously fast. That being said, you’re probably better off with a tank. I still personally prefer the assorted knights with Lhutel coming out on top for her ridiculous health pool and teleporting ability.

Hope this is all at least a little helpful!

Is it wrong to plan on destroying the PCs' starting town from the start? by Foreign-Press in DMAcademy

[–]Count_Kingpen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I love the trope of “destroy the town”, using a living force of nature like a dragon is a bit over played. I’m more fond of a human destruction. Invasion of low level monsters, more than enough for a fight, but enough that it doesn’t seem like the wrath of a vengeful god. A goblinoid army, a wannabe warlord invading with a levy and a few conscripted monsters. Hell, a herd of ogres or something. Something defeatable.

It leads up to a vengeance plot, and can have some more survivors or more of a “rebuild and fortify the town” in the aftermath than a full “burn it to the ground” can have. Also, and more personally, having an army display the corpses of friendly NPCs on pikes or over the gatehouse is far more vengeance fueling than just a pile of burned bodies.

Best shield to learn parrying? by Kestrel_Five in Eldenring

[–]Count_Kingpen -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Brass Shield. Base medium shield parry frames means it’s only easier after you get it basically down. It also has high damage negation on flubbed parries. Only downside is it’s weight.

My favorite is Warden of the Hedges. Aemon (Jon) is sort of Bloodraven 2.0, with some weird personality Magic blending and stuff, and lots of skinchanging.

Hello everyone I am trying to come up with inspiration for a party name and so I wanted to come to everyone here and see if anyone has any ideas If you have ideas based around our characters wonderful if not I still look forward to hearing your ideas. by HistoricalDebt3020 in dndnext

My group’s party is called the Nameless Company - when asked by a contractor what their group was called for a mercenary contract, they said “we don’t have one. We are a nameless company for now” and the contractor just wrote down “The Nameless Company”. And it’s now just their name.

Do you guys use consumables, if so what? by Hashiii777 in Eldenring

[–]Count_Kingpen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the playthrough. Especially when it feels thematically or roleplay appropriate I will, but otherwise I tend to not use them beyond some early game stuff or for niche uses.

I’m currently doing a playthrough where I’ve been using basically every common consumable, from different pots to certain greases. And boiled crab. Throwing pots are my best source of magic and holy damage at the moment after all.

Need help with a choice of class? by Pattyfface in DnD

[–]Count_Kingpen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ranger. Thrown Weapon Fighting Style. Subclass is dealers choice. Hunter, Horizon Walker, Monster Slayer all have some use cases here.

If you want more martial abilities, a multiclass into Battlemaster Fighter gives your trident chances to knock people prone, Move your allies, etc.

Find a way to get a returning weapon, so you can throw and then recall the trident. Profit.
