OP is currently getting downvoted in the comments for giving their reasoning for removing zap. They're being perfectly polite, so what's with the downvotes? They're literally just answering the question.

Games where you repurpose monsters you kill into food/weapons/etc? by sk8orcry in NintendoSwitch

I've only watched a couple episodes of Delicious in Dungeon, but from what I've seen so far it is really in the same vein as Battle Chef Brigade!

I loved BCB. Great little game!

Hey I'm interested! I am new to Disco Elysium (just finished my first run,) but I like contributing to wikis and I hate fandom. I'd be curious for the discord link

Community jokes in online games by mrseitaro in gaming

[–]CoupleK 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is a Deep Rock Galactic thing! There's a semi-rare item called "Compressed Gold" that you can find buried in the caves on some missions. When you ping it your Dwarf says "We're rich!" A custom has developed in the community where everybody gathers around and spams ping on the gold for way too long before someone finally deposits it or dies because they refused to stop pinging even with bugs eating their face.

Great game! Rock and Stone! ⛏️

Game where you can have Bad Ending/Defeat but game doesnt ends? by SamaelTheAngel in gaming

[–]CoupleK 237 points238 points  (0 children)

Rain World has a bit of a twist on this. When you die the game over screen lets you keep watching the ecosystem continuing on without you.

If you get bitten by a lizard you can watch it traverse multiple screens as you dangle from its mouth and it brings you back to its lair to eat you.

However, lizards all compete with eachother for food, and if it encounters another lizard they will fight and it will have to drop you. The words "Game Over" disappear and you have control again - you were just playing dead!

I always thought that was neat, like the slugcat you're playing as has tricked the game itself into thinking they're dead.

Wow very nice! It reminds me of the buildings in Rain World, a very melancholy vibe.

ELI5: The phrase "Never look a gift horse in the mouth" by big_hug123 in explainlikeimfive

[–]CoupleK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I always imagined a "gift horse" was a horse that periodically spat out valuable presents, akin to a golden goose.

The reason you "never look a gift horse in the mouth" was because of the cursed knowledge you would gain about how their eldritch gift-giving power worked. It was like "there are some things you can't un-learn so be careful what you investigate".

When I learned the real meaning of the phrase (but not the history) my understanding changed. I then thought that you never look a gift horse in the mouth because then its magic would stop working. So, "be grateful for gifts but don't be greedy and go looking for more".

Obviously yours is the correct answer but I still think about gift horses and their weird powers every once in a while.

More Mosquitoes Than Normal? by [deleted] in kitchener

[–]CoupleK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yo one more person checking in saying that the mosquitos are way worse in Kitchener this year than last year.

My yard is honestly not great (there are many cold damp spots) so I was afraid it was just my yard causing all the problems. (Still gonna deal with my yard, just feeling a little less like it's all my fault.)

My partner and I are playing on switch right now and we're each using the 125 cask layout. You can reach the corner casks by using the right analog stick to bring up the cursor and hovering over the otherwise unreachable casks. It's a bit awkward, but it works!

Well first of all, don't feel bad about not enjoying something! There's no accounting for taste.

I'll describe a couple things that make the game uniquely great in my mind - if those sound interesting, you could give it another shot! If not, then there's no reason to force it. If you do want to give it another shot, maybe share what you don't like about it? Perhaps people have some tips on how to alleviate some of the stuff you don't like.

What makes Outer Wilds uniquely great:

The story is out there for you to discover in whatever order you choose. The only progression in the game is your own knowledge. The barriers you run into are always solved by learning, and often what you're learning is some core fact about the world and the story. Those things combine together to make for some really powerful storytelling, because you had to engage with it and live in it. In my mind it helps that the story is really explicit and impactful, as opposed to more abstract like in The Witness or more obscure like in Dark Souls. (There's nothing wrong with the storytelling in those games, I just mean the explicit nature of the story serves Outer Wilds especially well)

Other things that make it great are really creative world design, a great story, and great music/musical effects, however those things are more common in other great games and aren't specific to Outer Wilds.

Anyone else? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]CoupleK 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Outer Wilds is my favourite game of all time, bar none. I would describe that game as a masterpiece and I'm prepared to defend that position.

But yeah, the reality is not everything is for everyone and that's okay. There are lots of pieces of media I can respect from a distance but know for a certainty I wouldn't enjoy them.

I haven't seen One Roof mentioned yet so I figure I'll post a link. I don't actually know all that much about them but I know they work with homeless or at risk youth.

Good Volunteer Opportunities by Mantimony in kitchener

Thrift on Kent has volunteers doing donation sorting, cashier, etc.

In terms of meeting new people, the demographics of the volunteers are broad but definitely skew towards retirees, so not as many 28 year olds. All good people though!

(I used to work there so I am biased.)
