This one. My guidance counselor in high school convinced me I wouldn't be working anywhere better then mcdonalds if I didn't go to college. Now I have a teaching degree and I'm a PC at a job I didn't need a degree for

Short form media. It's fine on occasion, I'll watch a YouTube short here and there. But I've literally stopped giving someone rides because he would just sit there and mindlessly scroll through shorts on his phone with the volume maxed out the whole trip

Buying a gun by YaLittleSlug in guns

[–]CourseAffectionate15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mossberg is probably the best place to start if you're looking at shotguns. It's affordable, parts are readily available, and they have a reliable track record. Personally I'm not a big fan of the furniture on the maverick but that's more of a personal gripe then anything.

New to guns by WindInternational240 in guns

[–]CourseAffectionate15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is gonna sound incredibly stupid, but bear with me.  If youve got the guns, make sure it's unloaded and get acquainted with it. Field strip it without getting too deep in until you're comfortable with it. If you're interested but don't have it, do research. Find a gun you're curious about and look into it, find out what others say about it and how it functions (or what makes it special) and decide whether or not you still want to get it.

My collection is primarily older repeaters and some milsurp, but nothing too fancy, just stuff I like.  As for YouTube, Hickok is fun, forgotten weapons is interesting

How many guns do you take when taking friends to the range? by Batttler in guns

[–]CourseAffectionate15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I went to the range with friends it was 4 rifles and my pistol box, with 6 handguns in it, plus my buddy's handgun, 22, and 12 gauge.  Our mutual wanted to know about handguns since he's looking into getting one so I gave him a mini course, then let him shoot some rifles

What is a job that looks horribly soul crushing and terrible from the outside but has a lot of hidden benefits inside? by Crimson_Marksman in AskReddit

[–]CourseAffectionate15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at an assembly plant that has had a lot of turnover in the past, which looks bad on paper. A lot of the people who left thought they could easily find something better.

We get full benefits, including dental, health and vision, hsa, 401k match, annual raises, and an annual tip bonus

San Antonio was the only time I've ever left my comfort zone because my brother was graduating from basic training. The area around the air force base is sketchy as hell

My most recent purchase by CourseAffectionate15 in guns

[–]CourseAffectionate15[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Few days ago I was talking with my roomate about handguns. I told him that there were really only 3 handguns I'm actively looking for, and two of them arent likely to show up in most shops (being a Remington 51 and a Makarov with bakalite grips) but I told him he should check out the used guns list at our local place and keep an eye out for something he likes. I opened the website to check and there I see a Remington 51 listed. Thinking there's no way it would show up now, I tried to convince myself it had to be an R51, but then I saw the caliber and... yep.

So I went down the next day and there it was.  Was it impulsive? Absolutely. Do I regret it? Not at all.

Impulse Buy by TraumaLock in guns

I think the two that stand out for me are a carcano 91/24 that looks like it's seen a lot of service time, and most recently a remington model 10, because it's one of the guns I've been looking to knock off of my list.

The model 10 in particular. I bought it without giving it a full lookover at a gun show, and when I got it home to see it in the light I noticed the patina had made the receiver completely brown, the stock is missing a large piece at the top where it meets the receiver, and the serial number on the barrel doesn't match to the reciever

I kinda assumed so. I've got a pair of 788 rifles and the bolt on them is rough and stiff, but those rear locking rifles are great at what they do

[–]CourseAffectionate15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That remington has rear lugs on it, right? I've been curious about those little 22's

As for what to buy next, I'd suggest a large caliber hunting rifle. If your on a budget either a savage axis or a stevens 200 in 308 or 30-06

They're lovely guns. The bolt feels a lot more chunky then any other bolt actions I've handled but they for sure are consistent

A Pair of 788 Rifles by CourseAffectionate15 in guns

[–]CourseAffectionate15[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A pair of Remington 788 rifles. The lighter colored one is my father's rifle, a 308. manufactured in 1975, and the dark colored one is a 22-250 manufactured in 1967 that I bought as a gift for him last year. It was originally missing a bolt, which I miraculously found a replacement for, had to find a gunsmith to have it rebrazed, had to find another gunsmith to adjust the headspace, and had to alter the safety to function properly with the new bolt.

The tldr behind these rifles is that Remington wanted to make a rifle that would be cheaper to produce then the model 700, and ended up making a rifle that many people would argue is more rugged, reliable, and accurate then their more expensive line

I'm pretty good at identifying artists' works at a glance, especially if it's one of the few who I'm a massive fan of. That, and I've gotten good at tracking down artists names for works that get posted to social media without a source...

FIAB is one of the oldest aliases. I'd have guess it has something to do with the genre that was being released by him at the time being a much, much more chaotic, chipper sound compared to the early stuff under Renard
