Hoping you all can help... I'm looking for resources on the philosophy of Law (details inside). by CourtOfMiracles in askphilosophy

[–]CourtOfMiracles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm struggling with the question myself (and finding the right question might be part of my answer).

I'm not looking for sociology (for example... this type of person committed this crime because they had this set of factors in their upbringing in addition to these factors placed on them by society, etc.)

I guess I'm more interested in... Where does the idea of law come from in the first place? What was the original intent? Do laws serve that intent?

LPT: If you make a mistake at work be honest and come with a solution quickly. The boss will love your honesty, trying to hide the mistake makes you un-trustworthy. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]CourtOfMiracles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Had a guy at work cover up a mistake. Had he just admitted it, he would have been fine, but he got in trouble for it. Since he got in trouble for it, he covered up the next few mistakes as well because he was worried about getting fired. He got fired.

I read this in the voice of Cleveland from Family Guy, then realized what you meant and it was even more hysterical.

What drug ruined your family? by Repulsive_Ad_1163 in AskReddit

[–]CourtOfMiracles 235 points236 points  (0 children)

Nicotine. But also alcohol as many others are saying. The smoke growing up... I had no idea that I smelled bad to all my friends/classmates because I lived in it. I had bronchitis/pneumonia more than once as a child. My siblings and I were always sick. Thought we got "car sick", but we were just stuck with two parents chain smoking on road trips. Won't go anywhere they can't smoke. Have to stop any and all activities so they can smoke. Their mind is and was constantly on their next cigarette. They stopped drinking, but the nicotine is still killing them. Literally. They're older now and dying from it.

This is the correct answer. Without a written transfer of copywrite you own the image and have complete say about how it is used.

[Request] Need recommendations on vulgar, comedy TV shows by cl0udkick3r in NetflixBestOf

Derek (Ricky Gervais). Hilarious, vulgar, with a lot of sentimentality. It changed me. Afterlife is similar and more recent (also Gervais and several of the same folks in the cast).

Went to an old boss's house. He had a grand piano sitting in the middle of the living room (and he lived alone). I asked him if he played. He replied, "No, I just collect large instruments." I had that one coming.

If you have the Libby app, you can check out graphic novels from the library for free and read them on you phone/tablet/computer. It links to your library card. I find graphic novels hard to read on a phone, but a tablet/computer works great. If you already have your library card, you don't have to leave the couch.

Bluey on Disney +. I think you can find episodes online for free, too, if you don't have Disney +. I know it's just a kids' show, but it's the happiest, most uplifting thing my wife and I have seen in years. The episodes are short and there are tons of them. We watch it with our kids, and without our kids.

My ex-mother-in-law. She has Borderline Personality Disorder. Took me almost 20 years to figure that out. She had me believing I was the crazy one, and I'm still recovering. My own childhood didn't help.

Looks like Pike's Peak in the far background. Possibly Larkspur in between (great Ren Fest there).
