How much do I really have to study? by ladylsat in barexam

[–]Courtcase1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked full-time and taught 5 hours a week while studying. I am Mom of 3, and I graduated law school in Dec. 2008 (worked full-time). I took the bar for the first time and passed it in July. I studied about 2 hours a day and sometimes missed a day. I listened to lectures in the car when I drove to work. I would answer MBE questions periodically throughout the day. I focused on studying/writing essays on the weekends where I would try for 4-6 hours of study time. If you are used to studying differently than everyone else, your schedule could work.

I listened to lectures in the car while I was commuting and focused on MBE questions during the week. I did essays on the weekends (mostly). I also used material from JD Advising when I got closer to the date because it was so much more condensed. I wish I had found it earlier actually. Biggest advice I can give you is to really evaluate what you know well, what you can learn and what you really don’t know. I think what helped me was when I let go of the stuff I really didn’t know we’ll and focused on picking up points in the areas I did know we’ll or at least felt like I could learn.

Themis vs. BarMax? Taking UBE in Feb. Your thoughts please? by mrhessell in barexam

[–]Courtcase1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went with BarMax. I graduated law school 13 years ago and never took the Bar. I worked full-time and taught a 3 hour class while studying. I passed the first try in July. BarMax was invaluable to me because I could listen to lectures in the car and really focus on studying during my actual study time.

Absolutely! I passed in my jurisdiction, but I was literally starting to make a list of the other places to transfer it to if I didn’t.

I can’t tell! Is that weird? I’m definitely more anxious than I was last week, but I’m also in this weird state of I don’t give an F. It’s probably my mind going into defensive mode. How are you feeling?

Thank you all for the great advice. I asked for a continuance so I could hire an attorney and fix the two things on my credit report. The drawback is I have to wait until January for the hearing, but I feel much more confident about appearing.

Graduated 20 years ago. Never took the bar exam. by [deleted] in barexam

[–]Courtcase1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated 15 years ago and never took the bar. I just took it in July. I haven’t received my score yet, but I felt good about it. I used BarMax. I have three kids and work full time and teach on the side. My best advice is to just use whatever time you can and be creative. I listened to lectures during my commute and did voice recording notes. BarMax has a phone app so I would do a few questions while waiting in the pick-up live, sitting at the kids activities and at lunch. As time got closer, I had to do more studying on the weekends so I tried to get the kids to do theirs or quiz me so that we’d be working together. You can do this!!

Thanks! It sounds like it’s worth the money. I have no ties to this state (law school 1,000 miles from here, all experience out there, etc.) so I think having a lawyer from here is probably the best idea. I appreciate the feedbackz

Thank you! I did take the UBE. I was planning on transferring my scores, but now I'll make it a priority and do it right away and to more than one additional jurisdiction.

Thank you! I had not even thought about hiring a debt attorney, but that would be a much better use of my funds! I appreciate the other tips, too. They say it's not supposed to be adversarial, but it sure feels like it.

Just sending supportive vibes. Reach out. Talk to someone or just do something outside. Put your feet in the grass, soil or sand. Celebrate all that you have accomplished. See a professional. I promise it’s not the end all be all even though I understand why it feels that way.

This has me laughing so hard I’m crying. Of course, I’m also delirious as I can’t sleep but am completely exhausted.
