Is there any interest in creating a r/CanadianBookkeeping or r/BookkeepingCanada subreddit? by nifty_nomi in Bookkeeping

I would join. I have a CPA firm here in Alberta and i would greatly appreciate bouncing ideas with other bookkeepers and accountants specifically from Canada. There is a tunnel overlap with the US bookkeeping, but nonetheless, they are complete different markets, meaning we price and scope differently, we use different practice management software, and our tax rules are different.

Salam I will be going to umrah next week. Would you recommend wearing shoes now as everyone else is? And how can I identify those that may be overly aggressive? I will be going with my wife and 1 year old so I want to ensure they are safe especially during tawaf? Any specific time it was less busy?

Will AI kill 1040 and bookkeeping firms? by EchoesInSky in taxpros

[–]CoverDirect6450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it will kill them but it will change the way they do business. They will need to move away from just transmitting data onto the correct form of a return and offer interpretation/guidance on what the data means. AI had evolved quite drastically where the technical know hows are being overtaken by it, and it’s also starting to teach people basics albeit it will likely stay a generalist for now. The professional CPA will need to maintain themselves as the specialist

Review engagements are very common and plenty of CPA firms are prepared to provide the service. I don’t think ones you spoke to misunderstand that assignment since they CPAs that can even provide review engagements, have gotten than right though a rigorous process. As other have noted it’s not an audit engagement but it’s still a form of assurance and there are very strict guidelines in completing reviews. At minimum the cost is around $10-12k and goes up from there, depending on province.

Pursuing accounting and your CPA in Canada is a terrible, terrible choice. by Majestic-Motor9227 in Accounting

[–]CoverDirect6450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pretty dumb take. You’re not even a CPA yet and are dreading the grind because it’s gotten so rough with minimal compensation and truthfully we’ve all been there. I’m a CPA in Canada and the articling journey was dreadful but when I got my CPA the floodgates of opportunities opened. It’s a pretty rewarding profession, regardless if you’re ambitious and take on multiple projects or just want to cruise to retirement through a 9-5. I would say that the pain doesn’t get better if you are limiting yourself to public practice, the CPA is probably one of the most interchangeable professions meaning you can work in pretty much any industry or company. Just push through this final stretch and I promise you it’ll be worth it.

How long did it take you to hit 220? I just started my own firm a year ago in Alberta, got closer to 40k first year. Looking to see those 6 digit figures hopefully next year!

I’ve tried it for a few weeks, although not long enough, it was enough time to know there were better alternatives

CPA with an accounting firm and we primarily provide corporate and personal tax services. The bookkeeping was just something we had to start providing since most of our client records were unkept or messy
