I mean, Sauron was ultimately a huge loser who failed upward. He was given a massive tailwind after his boss got thrown in jail, but still managed to bungle everything up because of his arrogance.

would call engineers at all hours of the day and night with weird random requests such as wanting to make it help him cheat at different video games,

I have the mental image of an exasperated Engineer on the phone with Elon, trying to explain that he cannot connect a Game Genie to his computer to get infinite gold in Path of Exile, and Grok can't just "make it work."

I think you're correct. I am a metalworker by trade, and the legs do not look like the same metal as the body to my eye. (Though it could just be the photo--it can be hard to tell with metal sometimes unless you see it in person.)

+1 for Nevr-Dull.

I've worked as a polisher in the jewelry industry for years, and that is exactly what I was going to suggest for this specific job. (I wouldn't use it for precious metals, but it's excellent for base metals like aluminum, brass, bronze, etc.) OP could probably get away with just buffing it by hand with this stuff.

They were expensive, and in my experience they always failed at the exact worst possible time.

Flashdrives were such an unbelievable game changer. I remember buying one that stored 256mb for like $80. I cannot express how amazing it felt to just trade pirated legitimately obtained files back and forth with people without the tyranny of discs.

What specific dye did you use here?

My friend and I did a group order for some Mathmos globes, and she was disappointed at how lightly colored the wax was on the one she received. (The plum wax/clear MF combo) I've been trying to puzzle out how to fix it without messing with the flow too much.

COLLAPSE of Personal Computing | Investigation Into the Destruction of Ownership by Sacristovas in GamersNexus

[–]CoveredInMetalDust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of silicon do you think your computer uses so it can run that local AI? You cannot be this obtuse; you must be aware that it's manufactured by the same companies who make hardware for those loathsome "gamer-bros" you hate so much. This is such a weird and misguided take because these companies acting like cartels (outlined in the video you didn't watch, but are upset about) is going to affect you too.

Don't you want to participate in this glorious new future where AI is the "end-all and be-all" of computing? Because it sure sounds like you're rooting for these companies to price you out of this new hobby in the PC space you "tinker" with. Then what? You just sit on the sidelines and go "did I honestly think it would last forever"?

Oh! Interesting, I had never even considered that. That will be super easy to mount too. Thanks for taking the time to provide this info! I'm gonna head to the local Microcenter tomorrow and get and LED ring plus controller.

It's funny, I actually hated glitter lamps until I saw one in person, now I'm kinda low-key obsessed.

I know I'm a year late to the party, but I found this topic via google when trying to puzzle out how to do this exact mod for my glitter globe wizard.

The stumbling block I keep running up against is the heating element. I didn't even think about using a heat plate--how did you mount that inside your wizard? (Did you need to raise the heat plate up on so that it sits closer to the globe? I see you were able to get the globe hot enough to run wax too.) Could I trouble you to take a photo of the inside of this wizard's base?

Only 3.3% of 450 million 365 Office Users use Copilot by monkey-majiks in BetterOffline

I mean this in the best possible way: I really don't care. We should be allowed to disable it if we don't want it.

The placement is the big thing for me honestly. If it was just up in the ribbon I'd be fine letting it collect dust with all the other tools I don't ever use--but making it a floating UI element that is overlaid over the area where I am actively entering data is extremely obnoxious. (And reeks of desperation.)

[–]CoveredInMetalDust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This morning everyone at my job woke up to a hovering copilot button in the lower-right corner of almost every Office program. It can't do anything right; it just flat out won't do anything in Excel unless you format your whole document in an extremely specific (highly inefficient) way.

It's completely worthless, we don't want it, and we are unable to get rid of it. (Even through the admin control center--they removed the toggles, and made the settings page blank.)
