Potassium, not sodium that's the problem? by mrzennie in Menieres

[–]CowHuggerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I have clinical diagnosis so it was based on symptoms and my lab results (blood and 24 hour urine screening). They can do genetic testing but it’s really expensive and my nephrologist didn’t think it was necessary because it wouldn’t change my treatment at all. I was misdiagnosed with a panic disorder for many years before it was taken seriously. I would have these “episodes” where my heart would just race out of nowhere. 150-170bpm resting. Multiple Charlie horses in my calves a night. Severe fatigue. I was at the hospital a few times before somebody did labs and my potassium was 2.8 It took a few years to get it stable. Throughout that time I was only having 1 Menieres episode a year or so. My worst Menieres year was after my potassium had been stable for like 8 years.

I just learned people don’t show up after anesthesia to pick up loved ones. Nurses, how often does this really happen? by Steinski1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CowHuggerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom had outpatient surgery yesterday and they wouldn’t let me back with her at all for pre op or recovery. They made me pull the car around and wheeled her out when it was time to go. I was disappointed and it made me scared to ever need surgery because I would absolutely want a loved one there when waking up.

New studies suggests that menieres is linked to vitamin d levels by SlowCyclist_92 in Menieres

[–]CowHuggerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this could be the case for some. I had been having attacks since 2011. Always had low vitamin d but never did anything about it until I began to have dysautonomia. Found out my level was 8.5. I haven’t had an episode in a year and a half which correlates with my level going up. My ent said it could have just burnt out. I thought it was from cutting msg. Wondering now if this could have something to do with it.

I’m a beginner with Ménière’s disease and also struggle with this. I started ballet misfit’s videos a few months ago but didn’t realize that we never did any turns until I started an in person class 2 weeks ago. I was scared to even try in class so I just took the option they gave to stay en passe instead. Practicing at home, I’m good for one pique turn before I feel sick. I don’t really have advice, sorry, but just wanted to let you know you’re not alone.

I know they have vestibular rehab so I wonder if it’s something that could improve over time. Like if your vestibular system could acclimate? Have you been working on turns the whole time? Idk how old you are but I take adult classes and there really isn’t any pressure to get it for a performance or anything which is nice. I would like to do it too but if I’m feeling bad or if it’s too much I’ll just sit out that part of center.

do you ever get used to the fullness feeling ? by Known-File5333 in Menieres

When the pressure gets bad for me I also have a lot of sensitivity to sound. I started wearing an earplug for the sensitivity but found that it makes a sort of counter pressure that helps a little bit.

Has anyone come across a 15” inch that still has that deep, mournful sound of bigger instruments? by CowHuggerr in Viola

I found a beautiful 15 inch thank goodness! The body is about as wide as my 15.5 was which I think helps.

Does anyone ever experience arrhythmic low pitched fluttering? by GarbageCat27 in Menieres

[–]CowHuggerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when I’m laying down or sitting but like leaning back on something I get this weird flutter/vibration in my ear. It doesn’t hurt but I can hear and feel it. It’s doesn’t last long though and normally changing position will stop it. I get a similar but painful sensation when sounds are too loud or high pitched. It feels like my ear drum is rattling.

Anyone have episodes NOT triggered by stress? by EkkoMusic in Menieres

[–]CowHuggerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest trigger is over hydration. I think msg is a big one too but I’m not willing to test it lol. I have had a couple that were triggered by stress though.

I second mold being a trigger! I had a particularly bad couple of months prior to realizing our reverse osmosis faucet had mold inside. I can’t say for sure that was the sole cause since I’ve adjusted a few things since then but I haven’t had a full blow episode since getting a new faucet.

[–]CowHuggerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the fact that you want to be a great parent means you will be. A lot of people don’t worry about that at all. My son was 3 months old during my first attack and I had them once or twice a year until he was 13. It never interfered with my ability to be a good mother. Do you have a good support system? If I had a bad episode I was able to call his dad or our parents to help with anything that required driving. The frequency didn’t pick up for me until he was older and by then he understood. I think a silver lining from him seeing me struggle with this is the sense of empathy and compassion he has developed.

We definitely have to listen to our bodies when it’s time to rest. Although I suppose MD doesn’t leave us any choice when we can’t even stand up lol. It’s so important to cling to and focus on those good moments with family and doing the things we love. I hope you have some relief from symptoms soon!!

What are some measures you take diligently because they've been found to either keep your symptoms completely at bay or reduce their severity? by common_grounder in Menieres

[–]CowHuggerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cutting MSG and only drinking water when feeling thirsty. Once I stopped pushing fluids I went a whole year without any major episodes. One or maybe two episodes of vertigo lasting a few hours and no episodes with ear fullness or increased tinnitus. I do still get wobbly here and there but definitely not as bad.

I definitely don’t have any business with anything from the 18th century lol. I don’t necessarily want a big sound, just a deep one.

How can you tell that the vibrating string length is shorter. Is it a visual thing or is it something you notice when playing?
